Through Your Eyes

Summary:

Bakugou Katsuki starts acting weird... smiling, being nice, and encouraging others? What the hell is happening there?
And Midoriya Izuku isn't doing much better with his dark glares and cussing.
When the boys reveal something they would've much rather kept a secret, they realise all their pining might actually be... mutual?
OR: Katsuki and Izuku get hit by a villain's quirk that makes them act like the person they admire most. And it's pretty obvious who that is.

Work Text:

It was a sunny, normal day. Everything was... quiet and made Katsuki happy. He was walking around campus, feeling somehow lighter than usual, closing his eyes briefly as he stopped to smell a flower. The fuck?

The day before, him and Deku were fighting a villain that seemed to have a bigger ego than he should considering he was taken down in under ten minutes. However, Deku and him did get beat up a little so it really didn't make any sense for him to be so happy.

Besides, why the fuck were his cheeks hurting? Was he... smiling?

The horror.

He was stopping his goddamn walk to smell a fucking flower?

And he was smiling?!

Katsuki decided to walk back to his class and dropped his smile. Why the hell was he feeling so much different than usual?

As he walked into the classroom, he was greeted by Kirishima by a clap on the back. "How are you doing, Bakubro? Already exploded anyone?"

Katsuki smiled. "No, not today, Eijirou."

Kirishima froze. As did the rest of the class.

"Since when do you call me by my first name?" he asked.

"And since when can you smile?" Kaminari added behind him.

"I, uh, I don't know. I'm just happy to see you," Katsuki answered and smiled so much his eyes were almost closed.

"What the-"

"Anyway, I'd like to sit down now. I'm really excited to learn something new today so I can be the best hero," he continued chatting as he walked to his seat. "I mean, Aizawa is actually a pretty cool teacher and we are so lucky to be at UA because it's just so prestigious," he continued as he stopped at his desk. "We really should be more respec-"

"Oi, Katsuki!" he heard and turned around to see a green mop of hair standing behind him. "How about you move your ass so I can sit down? You're in my way."

Katsuki apologised quickly and sat down, trying to ignore the weird feeling in his stomach. Why was he feeling so conflicted? Why did all of this feel so unnatural to him?

"Guys, am I going insane or are you seeing this too?" Ashido whispered to the rest of the class who had horror written all over their faces.

"Is this a prank?"

"Are we supposed to laugh?"

"Are they cosplaying each other?"

"Mommy?"

"Shut up, you damn extras! Sit your asses down before Aizawa comes. Or don't, I don't give a fuck," Izuku snapped as he put his feet on the desk in front of him.

"Midoriya! As your class rep I'm asking you to calm down and-"

"Shut the fuck up, four eyes! My god, can't you leave it? And Ochaco, move. I can barely breathe with you almost on my lap."

Uraraka looked a little hurt but moved away from her place next to Izuku. "I'm just concerned is all."

"Pfft," was all Izuku said as Aizawa walked into the classroom causing the class to (finally, Izuku thought) sit down and be silent.

"So, problem children, today we will have a couple of theoretical lessons-"

Izuku groaned loudly and put his hands over his face. "Why?" He whined. "We've been doing that the entire goddamn week. I think we fucking get it," he said as he glared at Aizawa.

"Calm down, Izuku. Theory is important too! Besides, Aizawa knows exactly what he's doing. After all, he's a teacher at UA!" Katsuki said and turned around in his seat.

The rest of the class looked at Aizawa with pleading eyes. "Please do something about this!" Jirou said.

"Huh," Aizawa mumbled as he raised a brow at the two boys currently bickering back and forth.

"-you're so mean, Izuku-"

"-you fucking, stupid-"

"-you're better than this-"

"-you're worse than this, Katsuki. You-"

"It's Kacchan."

"Huh?" Izuku said, a little baffled.

"It's Kacchan," Katsuki mumbled as he turned back around only to shriek loudly when he finds Aizawa face to face with him.

"You and Midoriya, come with me!" He said and watched them suspiciously as he walked outside the class.

The two boys followed their teacher, the hair on Katsuki's neck standing up when he realised the entire class was staring at them.

"What do you want?" Izuku asked as Katsuki closed the door.

"Did the villain's fist glow a dark red when you two were hit?"

"Huh?"

"I asked-"

"Yeah, I get that. I mean, I guess. Why?" Izuku asked and crossed his arms.

Aizawa simply sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. "It's way too early for this," he mumbled.

"What is wrong with us? Why am I acting like Izuku? And why can he cuss all of a sudden?" Katsuki asked, his voice suddenly much higher than usual.

"You idiots were hit by a quirk."

"No shit, Sherlock," Izuku interfered. "What does that mean for us?"

"The villain's quirk makes you act like who you admire most, or at least how you perceive them. Nothing too flashy or anything but it can come at a disadvantage in battle when you start acting like someone else. It's weird that it took you two so long to realize," Aizawa explained. "Usually, you would've acted like the other much earlier."

"Well, we didn't really talk to anyone afterwards. We immediately went into our rooms," Katsuki told his teacher, biting his bottom lip as he stared into nothing.

Of course it was a quirk.

But wait-

"So you admire me, huh, Kacchan?" Izuku asked with a grin. "How cute," he cooed silently while walking back inside the classroom, his hand ghosting over Katsuki's arm.

Katsuki took a deep breath. Somehow, he knew this would end poorly for him.

~

Back inside, the boys took their seats and Aizawa quickly explained the situation to the rest of the class. Their classmates started giggling and Katsuki hid his face between his arms, a blushing mess.

This truly couldn't get any worse.

"Don't worry, Kacchan. You're doing a very good job. Good boy," Izuku mumbled behind him.

Ok, maybe he's spoken too soon.

The rest of the day was filled with the class teasing the boys and Izuku... joining them? Was this the payback for his foul mouth his entire life?

"Come on, Katsuki. You can do it! Break him!" Kirishima shouted later on when Katsuki and Izuku were teamed up to fight (because somehow, the class was able to persuade Aizawa to actually do some training with them).

"Yes, Kacchan. Break me~" Izuku whispered close to Katsuki's face, resulting in the blonde losing focus and being pinned down by Izuku.

Goddammit.

When they were back in their dorms, Katsuki threw himself on his bed and let out a breath. Izuku seemed so... confident the entire day and it made him all fuzzy. His stomach was doing the thing.

No, not organ failure.

Butterflies.

But then again, he had been getting butterflies around Izuku for the longest time, so it really was no surprise. But now that Izuku was openly flirting and being a little shit... it just amplified all those feelings. Maybe a side effect of being nice was having stronger emotions?

If so, he just wanted to get back to his old self. His yearning was already pretty strong as normal Katsuki but now it seemed to consume him from the inside out, his head filled with the thought of Izuku, Izuku, Izuku...

"FUCKING DAMMIT!" Katsuki shouted as he thrashed in his bed. And then he sat up.

Wait a damn minute-

"I can curse again?" He mumbled and looked in the mirror. There was a scowl on his face. "Oh my god, am I... back to normal?" He said as he touched his face and started laughing in disbelief. "HELL YEAH!"

Wait.

Oh no.

If Katsuki's quirk wore off...

Izuku's probably did too.

~

Izuku was sitting on his bed, looking at his hands.

Dammit. His personality was back.

He was happy to be himself, sure, but he was also pretty annoyed. Katsuki was always so confident and just said what he thought without being embarrassed about it.

But Izuku? He'd usually apologize a couple hundred times while his face would start to match Katsuki's eyes.

He didn't like cussing his friends out or being mean in general but that confidence he had, especially while flirting with Kacchan...

"OH MY GOD!" he exclaimed. "I WAS FLIRTING WITH KACCHAN!"

He fell back into his bed, covering his burning face with one arm. He. Was. Flirting. With. Kacchan.

Not only did this quirk reveal to everyone that he admired Kacchan the most, he openly flirted with him. But then again... Did this mean Kacchan admired him too?

No, that thought was crazy. He had been acting pretty similar to him but that must be because he liked someone else. Yes, of course.

Of course...

Izuku sighed and turned onto his side, closing his eyes and trying to calm down. A good rest will solve all of his problems.

~

This was such a bad idea.

Katsuki had been pacing around his room for at least two hours, thinking about... well, everything. He was so anxious and overwhelmed, he didn't know what he should do. But then he knew exactly what he wanted to do.

And that's how Katsuki found himself standing outside Izuku's door, his fist hovering above the door, waiting to be allowed to knock. He was close to trembling with all the nerves inside of him. Sure, he could cuss out the biggest villains and defeat them in one go but knocking on the nerd's door seemed to do it for him.

"I'm such an idiot," he breathed as he knocked, swallowing all of his worries.

~

Izuku groaned at the sound of a knock on his door, rubbing his eyes as he slowly walked over, opening the door with a yawn... and finding a blushing Katsuki in front of him.

"Kacchan!" He shrieked before closing the door again. Wait. No. Dammit.

"Sorry," he chuckled awkwardly when he opened the door again. "What's up?" He asked, trying to sound cool but ending up sounding like a dying mouse.

Katsuki chuckled a little, the pretty blush on his cheeks making Izuku almost melt a little. "Can I come in?" He asked quietly.

"O-Of course, Kacchan!" Izuku answered and blushed even more when he closed his door behind them, the moonlight streaming in from his window the only source of light.

Silence.

"So, umm.." Izuku started. "What's up, Kacchan? Are you alright?" He asked and took a step towards the blonde.

"I, yeah, I'm alright, Izuku."

Izuku. Not Deku.

"I just... well, what a crazy day, huh?" He chuckled awkwardly, scratching the back of his neck.

"Yeah," Izuku agreed quietly and looked away, blushing even more than he already did.

"Listen, nerd," Katsuki started whilst taking a step closer, Izuku's breath hitching at their closeness. He was so close to Katsuki he could feel the warmth emanating from his body. His head was dizzy with Katsuki, who smelled like candy. Izuku had always had a sweet tooth. "I, umm, I mean we both know how the quirk works, right? And I guess there's no reason to act like we don't."

Izuku stared up at Katsuki who was fixing him with his gaze, his eyes sincere and open. The blonde reached out and grabbed Izuku's wrist lightly, tugging him even more towards him, their chests touching.

"Izuku, I..." he started but suddenly leaned down a little, his eyes fixated on the green haired boy's lips. "I really wanna kiss you right now," he breathed and Izuku shuddered.

Izuku's hand found its way onto Katsuki's cheek, a thumb caressing it. He pulled him closer and...

Kissed him.

All the tension in their bodies seemed to sweep away as they kissed each other sweetly, Katsuki's hands finding their way to Izuku's waist as Izuku entangled his in Katsuki's hair. God, he thought. He also tastes sweet.

Their lips were moving as if choreographed, their movements complementing, no, completing each other. There was no one but the other boy for them as they hummed and grinned and kissed each other silly.

But air was still a necessity, so they had to separate, their foreheads touching as they gasped for breath, smiling like the lovesick idiots they were.

Izuku looked at Katsuki, his Kacchan, and felt like his heart exploded. There was so much love in the other's gaze, he could jump into space with the euphoria he felt.

"You're beautiful, Kacchan," he whispered, the delicious blush on Katsuki's face travelling down his neck.

"Shut up, nerd," he said and looked away, earning a sweet giggle from the green-eyed boy who hugged him close to him.

They breathed in each other's scent as they stood there for a while, appreciating the actions that led them to this Thursday night, hugging and kissing.

Huh, Katsuki thought as Izuku pushed him onto his bed. Seems like it didn't end so poorly after all.
