Toby's chest was pounding in his chest as jack led him through the forest. It was their first date and jack planned the whole thing. Jack was leading toby by his hand as toby looked around the woods he usually hunted in.
Toby: so...what do you have planned?
Jack smiled softly: you'll see.
Toby huffed. This whole thing made him so nervous. Not only was it his first time dating but it was in the same woods he and his proxies hunted in. They could get caught if they weren't careful.
They walked silently for a little bit before toby spoke up again: y'know we patrol these woods every night right? No doubt Kate's out here. We're going to get caught.
Jack smiled: we aren't breaking any rules. So what if they know?
Toby didn't have any response to this. It didn't get rid of his fears but it did comfort him to know jack wasn't nervous.
After a while they stopped at their destination. An old tree house that was used as a watch tower in the past.
Jack: climb up.
Toby blinked: what?
Jack: our date is up there
Toby blushed at the use of that word and nodded:.... Okay.
They climbed up the ladder to be met with a table, two plastic chairs, and a single sleeping bag.
Toby chuckled at the domestic display: what's all this?
Jack shrugged: it's not much but it's what I could find on short notice.
Toby was smitten. No one has ever put in effort to set something up like this for him. It was sweet and cozy. Toby smiled and sat down: so what's for dinner?
Jack pulled a sandwich bag out of his backpack as well as another bag with a red, bloody organ toby assumed was a kidney. He handed toby the sandwich and they started to talk as they ate. It felt like they were a married couple at a fancy restaurant. Like they did this week, it was so natural and domestic.
As the sun set toby looked out the window: it's getting late, we should head back.
Jack chuckled and shook his head: I told everyone we were out on a mission. They won't expect us back until tomorrow and we have a sleeping bag here.
Toby looked back at the spot on the floor: just..one sleeping bag? Toby questioned as heat rose to his face.
Jack: if you aren't comfortable you can take it and I'll take the floor.
Toby jumped and shook his head. He's never really been in an intimate situation like this and the idea of sleeping against Jack felt overwhelming but exciting.
Toby: no! I mean it's fine. I don't want you getting cold anyways. Toby looked away.
Jack chuckled and nodded: sure.. that's why.
Jack climbed in first before toby slid in after him. The combined body heat was more than enough to beat the fall chill. There was just enough room for them both to fit up against each other. Toby's face was red hot as he laid against Jack's chest. He smelled like sandalwood and blood. Jack wrapped his arms around his waist, sending a chill down Toby's spine. He couldn't help but smile.
Jack: how did I do? Did you have fun?
Toby hugged back and nodded.
Jack smiled and rested his chin on top of Toby's hair: good. I was nervous. You certainly look warm enough.
Toby sighed in contentment as they dozed in each others arms and hoped the morning would never come.
