Work Text:
After ending the live and saying goodbye to the eyekons, Megan spent a few minutes talking to Yoonchae and Lara. Both of them are in her hotel room because they wanted to join the live. It was chaotic, but fun.
“I’m going to head to my room now, y’all. We still have a lot to do tomorrow.” Lara spoke first, yawning. Seems like yawning really is contagious. Because Megan and Yoonchae followed.
“Me too,” Yoonchae chimed in, “Goodnight Lara. Goodnight Megan.”
“Goodnight, Chae! Goodnight, Lara!” Megan said too.
As Yoonchae and Lara left her room, Megan is now alone with her thoughts. The AC humming in her hotel room. All of them are tired, after exploring around Australia and performing— who wouldn’t be? Which meant it’s the perfect time to sleep.
Megan got comfortable in bed. Fixing the sheets where she and Lara used to jump on earlier while Yoonchae had to witness it. Poor Yoonchae. Now that the bed is fixed, Megan tucked herself under the blankets. Peaceful now.
Before she closed her eyes, she thought about Missy’s words, “Rest tonight, we still have a lot to do tomorrow.” Blah blah blah. Megan didn’t really pay attention other than that, she was too focused on Missy’s iconic bun.
Just as Megan closed her eyes, about to doze off— a loud BANG of thunder came. Echoing throughout the hotel. Megan flinched, eyes now wide open. She’s not scared of something as small as thunder, right? Of course not! Why would she be afraid of thund-
BANG
Megan jolted, sitting up on her bed. Looks like a storm will be taking over the skies tonight. Thunder kept coming, and Megan is not falling asleep any time soon.
Okay fine, maybe Megan is afraid of thunder and storms? So what? It’s not like she’s going to need anyone else to comfort her.
BANG
Okay, never mind…
Megan was slightly trembling from the continuous sounds of thunder. Sleep has surely left her body now. She can’t seem to be comfortable alone. So, without another thought, she got up and left her hotel room.
Her steps on the hallway are quiet as she walked barefoot. Still cautious because of the thunder. She can’t believe she’s doing this. It’s almost midnight and she’s lurking around the halls like a backrooms entity. But, she knew she had to go to someone if she wanted a chance to sleep.
Somehow, her first thought was to go to Yoonchae. So, now, she’s standing in front of the door of Yoonchae’s hotel room. Megan was uncertain whether to knock or to go back to her room. What was she thinking? Yoonchae is probably asleep right now, and she’s going to wake her up. For what? Because she’s afraid of thunder?
Megan almost chickened out, ready to go back to her hotel room. Well, until another clack of thunder scared her again. Causing her to jump.
“You know what? Just do it!” Megan’s inner thought said.
She knocked on Yoonchae’s door before thinking. With no response, she knocked again.
A part of her wanted for Yoonchae to ignore it, so that she won’t humiliate herself by showing Yoonchae that shes afraid of thunderstorms. So that she can find a way to sleep on her own, and she can return to her room—
The door opened.
Megan’s breath hitched the moment Yoonchae’s frame is visible as the opening of the door widened. There she is, standing there— messy hair, in an oversized t-shirt and sweatpants, and rubbing her eyes. Megan clearly woke her up.
“…Megan?” Yoonchae asked, voice rough from sleep. Megan had to suck in a sharp breath.
“Hi…” Megan said sheepishly.
“What are you doing here…? It’s almost midnight.” Yoonchae asked, genuinely confused despite the sleepiness evident in her face.
Megan was about to answer, until another clack of thunder came. Causing her to flinch visibly, eyes widening in fear. Rest In Peace to Megan’s dignity.
Yoonchae seemed to notice, and her expression softened as she realized.
“Can’t sleep?” Yoonchae asked.
“…Yeah.” Megan admitted quietly, embarrassed and ashamed.
Yoonchae saw the shame in Megan’s eyes, and her heart clenched at that.
“Come in.” Yoonchae stated simply, moving aside to let Megan in. She didn’t miss the way Megan’s eyes lit up when she said that. The way she let out a breath she didn’t know she was holding. Adorable, she thought.
So, Megan got in. Yoonchae’s hotel room was neat, AC also humming, and it was peaceful despite the thunderstorm happening outside.
Yoonchae lied down on her bed, patting the space next to her— an invitation. Megan immediately went there, lying down next to her. Not too far, but not too close either. Megan respects boundaries, of course she knows what Yoonchae likes and dislikes. She just happen to notice, definitely not paying attention whatsoever!
“…Are you scared of thunderstorms?” Yoonchae asked as she turned to her side, facing Megan. Not mockingly, but actually curious.
Megan didn’t answer for a few moments. But, when she did, her voice is barely above a whisper. A stark contrast of the loud and confident Megan she knew.
“…Yeah, I am.” Megan replied quietly.
Yoonchae’s expression softened even more. Megan looked… vulnerable. Not the loud and chaotic Megan she got used to. This was different, another side of Megan that she didn’t show to others. Yoonchae felt honored that she trusts her enough to show vulnerability and be open about it. Her heart did a little flip at the thought of it.
Now— she noticed how tense Megan is, slightly trembling.
Without another word, Yoonchae scooted closer. Gently wrapping her arms around the older girl in bed. Megan stiffened at first— not because she didn’t like it, God she loves it, not that she’ll ever admit it. But, because she didn’t expect Yoonchae to initiate physical touch first. Especially not something like this. Everyone knows that she isn’t fond of physical touch, and the girls respect it.
But now, Yoonchae is doing this. Knowing that she isn’t a touchy person— it made the gesture feel… intimate.
Megan melted into the hug. Her arms slid to Yoonchae’s waist, and she buried her face on her shoulder. The warmth of it lessened the fear she was feeling.
The thunderstorm is still loud, Megan would flinch a little when another clack of thunder made its way. But this time, Yoonchae was there. She gently stroked her hair, murmuring reassurances and soft words. So, the tension in Megan’s body slowly dissipated.
Now, she wasn’t drowning in fear. Focused on the warm body next to her, shielding her from the outside world. The smell of Yoonchae’s shampoo, her gentle hands stroking her hair, just Yoonchae in general— brought comfort to Megan.
Before Megan fell asleep, she moved her head a little to press a soft kiss on the curve of Yoonchae’s neck, gratitude without words— and she felt a kiss on the top of her head, reciprocated. That brought so much security, and Megan felt so much love. Platonically? Maybe not.
Megan fell asleep, she is exactly where she wants to be. Safe in Yoonchae’s arms, the thunderstorm now forgotten.
By morning, Sophia opened Yoonchae’s door, a habit she always does to Yoonchae. They see each other as sisters, after all.
“Yoonchip? Have you seen Megan? She’s not in her roo—“ Sophia’s voice died down when she saw Yoonchae and Megan cuddling in bed.
Megan’s face buried on the curve of Yoonchae’s neck.
While Yoonchae’s chin rests at the top of Megan’s head.
Holding each other, blissfully asleep.
Sophia’s face immediately softened. My babies, she thought.
Daniela walks by and stops at where Sophia is. She had no idea what’s going on. But when she saw the maknae and all-rounder, she grinned.
“Since when did Yoonchae like cuddles?” Daniela snorted, voice hushed as to not wake them up.
“Honestly, I don’t know. Something clearly happened last night.” Sophia replied.
“Should we wake them up?” Daniela asked, looking at Sophia.
Sophia glanced at the two, then back to Daniela with a small smile.
“We can wake them up later. We still have two hours before call time, after all.” Sophia said softly before leaving.
Daniela followed, but not before getting her phone and taking a few pictures of them. She’s absolutely going to send this to their group chat with all 6 of them. Their reactions are going to be priceless. Daniela had to stifle a laugh from the thought of it.
“Dani!” Sophia called out from the hallway.
“Sorry sorry!” Daniela laughed. Tucking her phone in her pocket then catching up with Sophia. Closing the door gently.
Now it’s just Yoonchae and Megan again. Peacefully asleep, and honestly? They both wouldn’t have it any other way.
