Work Text:
view shouldn't be this tired in the midst of a rainy friday night, but this was part of her job, what can she do? she wipes the blood off her hands, insulting herself for taking this long beating up random hooligans. she's gotten rusty over the years. although, she surmises her target would see her as smaller bait. all she needed was for it to take it.
“you’re quite talented.” a voice pipes in from behind her, she’s not surprised. assuming this is the person who she thinks it is, things were going to plan accordingly.
"and?"
the man scoffs at the cold response. “we’re looking for a bodyguard.”
view turns around, finally getting a good look at the man, not like she needed to stare at him for long to see he comes from a rich place. “who’s we?”
“ah,” the man exclaims at the missing detail. “a family. i'm just their servant.” he slowly walks past view, observing the unconcious thugs laying on the ground. “miss mim, have you heard?”
just the name she expected.
view hides her eagerness with professional ease. “yes. i’m protecting her?” to that, the servant nods. with faux hesitation, view walks up to him with a hand out. “sure, i’m in.” the servant flashes her a smile, shaking her hand, before escorting her to a vehicle. they drive off onto the streets, view doesn’t even bother asking why he trusted her so easily. all she knows is that this was going to be an easier job than she thought.
they eventually reach a large mansion, view can only imagine how difficult it’d be to navigate her escpae plan once her mission was accomplished. but she should trust in her abilities, she’s got no one but herself. the servant parks the car in front of the house, before escorting her once more. “boss should be waiting near the entrance.” he says as the walk towards the gates. for a mafia gang, the place was truly extravagant. it’s like they had nothing to hide nor fear.
the servant opens the front door for view, she immediately finds a man slightly shorter than her.
he greets his servant before turning his head towards view. “i trust my servant’s judgement that you’ll be a useful bodyguard to my daughter.” he smiles. she smiles back awkwardly. the man could only chuckle at the former’s reaction. “your room is upstairs next to mim’s. go get changed before i formally introduce you to her.”
view is escorted to her room, the first thing she sees is a suit unnecessarily lavishly hung on a rack. was she that important of a person? she hurriedly puts it on, deciding to head out with her hair tied up. she leaves the room, and encounters the boss waiting for her… along with her target beside the man.
view's eyes meets mim's. questions pop into the former's mind.
why exactly was she sent to kill this woman? as the daughter of a mafia gang, does she really have any say in it's crimes? shouldn't her mission be coming after the boss?
"mim, she'll be your new bodyguard." view snaps back into reality. she shouldn't give the benefit of the dout to her target out of all people. mim eyes her up and down, view shudders at her gaze. that's never happened before. only when mim walks towards her does view feel a daunting aura around the woman. there was something so terrifying about her, yet the spark of fraility she saw in her eyes tells a whole other story. she's strangely… curious about the woman.
"your name is?" mim asks with a smile— one not so ominous, view notes.
"view."
"view…?" mim's head tilts as she trails off.
"do you really need to know the rest of my name?"
mim sighs. "you're my personal bodyguard, no? don't i deserve to know?"
with the conversation getting more awkward by the second, mim's father decides to leave the two. though, not without reminding mim of an errand she had to run. mim leans on the railing, arms crossed. she glances at view for a moment longer.
"do you know how to drive?"
"do you expect me to protect you properly while driving?" view's having a little too much fun teasing mim.
mim scoffs. "no. you didn't even grab the gun under your desk." view's smug smile fades. some veteran she is. before she could rush into her room to grab the weapon, mim scolds her doubly. "i'll call a driver. find the garage if you can." mim then leaves.
view enters her room once more. she searches underneath her desk and finds the gun. just as she was about to leave, she spots a mirror. her reflection smiles back at her, only for it to fade as she makes a damning realization.
she's an assasin, for fuck's sake. she's only here for a mission. just a mission
"your recipient sure is taking a while." view huffs heavily. the two had been waiting outside some criminal group's hideout. they had debts to pay, but it's been eerily quiet for the past ten minutes they've been waiting. things don't get better from there, mim's mood had long soured when the group does finally arrive. the woman looks even more terrifying, view wants out.
mim reaches a hand out towards one of the thugs. "pay up, and don't tell me you've got nothing because you know what that results to."
he turns his head towards the rest of the group at the demand, a hand in his pocket. mim drops her hand as she heaves in disappointment. "where even is your boss?" when he answers wordlessly, view starts to get suspicious. a certain look flashes through the group's eyes. a look far too familiar for a seasoned fighter like view.
before the man could raise his arm, view intervenes. she grabs his arm tight, view shoots him a warning glare.
"miss mim, please get in the—"
the man throws a punch with his other arm, view's nose started to bleed.
"damn. usually they'd stop there." she mumbles. view peers at mim once more, only now does she notice the worried look in mim's eyes. somehow, view was ever more determined to not get hurt. she wipes the blood off her face before… realizing she left her gun in the car. she doesn't dare ask her own master to hand the weapon to her, she has no choice but to use her fists.
she makes quick work of the man in front of her, she was still grasping onto him after all. she pushes the man aside before kicking him. when she looks back towards the rest of the group, she realizes how dire her situation is. she'd be dead if they were to rush at her all with a weapon in hand, it's not easy to disarm a whole group without some magical power, is it? so view resorts to retreating.
she runs away from the crowd, making sure to grab mim along the way before diving straight into the car's backseat. mim grunts in pain, her head hit the gun view had on her seat. the latter immediately apologizes before picking up the weapon and firing a blind shot out the car, startling the group following behind. "drive!" view tells the driver before she could even shut the door.
once things have quelled, only then does view realize her current position. at one point, one could say view pinned mim down in the car's backseat.
mim pushes view before sitting up. "are you hurt?"
view raises her eyebrows. she's concerned over her out of all things?
"no, shouldn't i be asking you that?"
mim ignores the question, "don't do that again." view scoffs.
"fuck kind of bodyguard would i be if i did nothing?"
"i mean…" mim doesn't dare look into view's eyes. "don't leave my side."
view's ears were too full of her racing heart to hear a car speeding next to them. she only notices the way mim's eyes widened when she spotted the vehicle behind her. she looks back immediately, and somehow reacts quickly enough to pull mim and get down as the other car's driver fires a shot through the window.
"sorry!" view apologizes once more, whether it be because she pushed mim again or the broken window, mim could barely think regardless with the way view's hand was on her hips.
once the barrage of bullets stop, view takes the opportunity to fire back. she leans over the window, the shattered glass making small cuts into her clothes. she thinks wisely about her shot, aiming at the other car's tire, and fires a single shot.
the other car starts to skid with the flattened wheels. at last, they were safe, and mostly unscathed. only then does mim breathe a sigh of relief. still, she doesn't forget to check on view. throughout all the chaos that had occured this night, mim hadn't paid attention to the remnants of blood on view's hand. it's metallic scent had faded for a while, yet she can't help but stare at it. her eyes narrow at the mere urge to—
"hey, i get you're worried, but this isn't mine." mim looks up at view. "promise, i shed no blood today."
mim looks at her in disbelief. she didn't have to promise even if it was a joke. "and the first guy you beat up?"
view rolls her eyes at the scrutiny. she decides to disregard it, asking another question of her own. "well, what do you plan now? they didn't pay at all."
mim gets a headache realizing the entire scrimmage ended up being fruitless— or maybe it was the faded smell of blood getting to her system. "i'll call dad, make them pay another way."
the boss did just that late into the night. as view left her room to get changed, she could hear faint noises of violence. she feigns ignorance at whatever was happening in the basement, what she's currently doing doesn't give her the right to judge. speaking of her mission, view arrives at her room with a ringing from her phone. she closes the door behind her before hurriedly taking the call.
"how's the mission coming along?" ah, her commissioner.
she can't lie, she hasn't made much progress. her only task was to kill the target, it shouldn't be taking this long. "uhm, getting to it."
problem was... "seriously? you said you'd be done before midnight." she was too prideful.
view sighs, "i know. just… had too much fun messing around." pitiful excuse, really. before her commissioner could say anything else, view hangs up. she groans once more as she sits on the edge of her bed. she tells herself to get going, she's prolonged this mission for too long. has she gotten that lazy over the years too?
view leaves her room, dagger up in her sleeves. she left just in time for the boss to leave the basement. if she didn't mess up her timing, mim should still be in there. the basement was strangely silent for the ferocity she had heard earlier. naturally, a question comes to mind; exactly what was the woman doing inside? she makes her way downstairs, her heart feeling unfamiliarly heavy. has she never settled with the doubts that the woman could do no wrong? view shakes her head, its far too late to be thinking of that.
as her eyes adjust to the dim lighting, view discovers mim looking down at a thug, blood scattered all across the floor. view finds the situation puzzling at the gruesome sight. she heard no scuffle upstairs, so how else could this event take place?
mim senses view’s presence, and turns around.
view is greeted with a spectacle to remember for the rest of her life.
blood fills mim’s mouth, scarlet eyes staring into view’s soul, yet one so full of… guilt? but the implication of the scene before her speaks multitudes. only, view was simply speechless.
mim looks at the dagger on view’s hand, the latter doesn’t even seem to realize she had unsheathed the weapon. before view could ask the obvious “what are you?”, mim stops her. she wipes her chin ungracefully, before licking the blood off her fingers.
“i’m a vampire.” mim flatly reveals, walking towards the other woman as she speaks. view's never heard her like this, voice as cold as a snowy storm. she feels as if mim expects this to ber her final moments. “what are you gonna do about it, miss bodyguard?” the emphasis of her occupation tells view that mim has known her true purpose. but view came here for one thing and one thing only. she doesn’t— shouldn’t— hesitate any longer.
view clenches tighter onto her dagger, as if to remind herself of her objective. “all the more reason to kill you.” view dashes forward, pinning mim against the ground. mim barely struggles against view— she doesn’t need to, the latter still seems to be wavering with the way view couldn’t bring the blade deeper into her neck.
mim scoffs, almost laughing at view’s inability to take her life. “truth is,” a hand crawls up view’s face, the delicate touch staggering her. “dad only assigned you as my bodyguard for me to feed on. but i’ve had enough of that.” then, mim says with that same sincerity in her eyes view saw earlier in the car.
“i want you to stay.”
view’s mind desperately searches for an answer, yet it results to nothing. she tells herself that these feelings are nothing but temporary, she’s only here to accomplish a mission. she barely has anything to get by through life, who could say what will happen if she fails? there’s too many factors out her control, she’s never liked that. what more if she herself is isn’t in control?
mim has gotten impatient waiting. with an inhumane force, she pushes view to the side, now pinning her. she holds the other woman tight, almost strangling her. she’s long grown frustrated, to the point of weeping as she restrains view. still, the woman’s love for the other takes over.
mim breathes out heavily at the realization of her actions. she surrenders completely, laying atop view. she notices the dagger barely clasped by view before whispering into her ear, “after all we’ve had, is your job still really the most important thing to you?”
“we’ve never had anything.” view wants to say, but she figures she’s long thrown out the thought that she feels nothing for the woman. instead, view drops the weapon, curling her arms around mim for a hesitant hug. “no, i just… didn’t have better things to do.” mim could only sigh in relief at the measly thought of being reciprocated. she turns her head towards view, bringing a hand to her chin to face her too. they held gazes for a moment longer before mim leans in to capture view’s lips.
view instantly tastes the metallic flavor of blood, but if she thinks hard enough, it could almost taste like fine wine— something she could compare to their relationship. a relationship that could only grow sweeter through time. view’s mind stills at the thought of romance. but at that moment, she could care less. she’s gotten pathetic, lonely, through the years too it seems. to crave a woman in this manner, she couldn’t do anything but give in.
a tentative hand places itself on mim’s head, fingers tangling on the other’s hair as the kiss becomes desperate. view pulls the woman deeper into the kiss, the force flipping her on top of mim once more. they lose contact at the movement, neither of them dare to move, only staring at each other’s eyes searching for some sort of sign to continue. though once realizing both of them were doing the same, they burst out in laughter.
with a breath, view lays down beside mim. “so….” she starts awkwardly. “i’m your girlfriend now?” mim chuckles, blushing slightly. she turns to view, draping an arm over her stomach.
“maybe, i haven’t taken you out on a date yet to properly ask though.”
a question remains on both their minds however, view was the first to ask.
“how are we gonna function?” just not in the way mim expected. met with a confused look, view clarifies. “i mean like… you’re a vampire, i’m just a human.”
mim sits up as she mulls over the thought. she starts to resent her entire being, things would be far easier if she wasn’t a vampire. she wouldn’t be in a mafia gang if she wasn’t a vampire. but that would mean not meeting view at all. so, she answers with a smile.
“and?”
such tone was familiar with view, she uses it herself.
view sits up as well, leaning on mim’s head. “aren’t you immortal or something? can you really love someone who isn’t?”
mim sighs. she’s known that question since birth, yet she’ll only ever have one answer.
“i’m not forgetting my first love easily.”
view pulls away from mim, staring at her in disbelief. “i’m your first love?”
mim nods eagerly. “yes. so don’t make me regret my choice of loving you.” view holds mim's hand before pecking a kiss on her neck.
"i won't."
