“It's never as dramatic as you make it sound.” Humanity-less Stefan says rolling his eyes over what he thought was her being over dramatic.
“You say that when you wake up to someone standing over your bed.” Caroline grumbles while glaring pointedly at Stefan or at least who Stefan is now—emotionless Stefan; The Ripper. “I don’t know why you keep coming here.”
“Is it really so hard to imagine that I might find you interesting.” He tells her and she knows that he’s telling the truth, he wouldn’t care to lie to her but still she doesn’t know why he’s paying attention to her and not Elena; it’s usually like that.
“Yeah it really is I mean you’ve always had like a single minded focus on Elena.” There was also the fact that the only thing he’s really interested in nowadays is just playing games and feasting on innocent peoples blood.
“Oh no that’s Damon now, I feel nothing for her.” He says uncaring.
“Oh? But you feel something for me?” She jokes but the way he looks at her after she says that makes it feel real.
“I could.” He says his voice and eyes softening—for her.
Caroline’s never had someone like that someone who would soften in her mere presence just for her and she almost feels a pang of jealousy that once they get him to turn his humanity back on then that’ll all return to being for Elena. She instantly feels bad for the thought because Stefan isn’t hers she’s just his friend and he’s her friend.
But oh it would be so easy to just pretend with The Ripper but she’s not going to do that to Stefan, the Stefan who taught her how to hunt bunnies and helped her after her transition who comforted her after she lost control and killed a guy, for that Stefan she is going to try and pretend like this Stefan isn’t convincing.
So instead of doing what she really wants to do she smiles and says. “Too bad I don’t feel anything for you.”
“Oh but you do.” Stefan calls her out on her lie stepping closer and closer until she’s pressed against the wall between that and his body.
Caroline fights the way her heartbeat rises with the proximity and of course he notices, a slow satisfied smile takes over his face at seeing her visibly affected by him. Her cheeks were a light red colour and he couldn’t help but imagine her covered in a different shade of red—blood red, she would look stunning, of course she always looks good, but this would be different it would be her giving in to the instincts that had taken over her human ones when she was turned.
She scoffs at him, “You’re mistaken, you’re just my best friends boyfriend.”
“Ah but you forget that we broke up me and Elena are no longer an item which means that I am free to talk to and do whoever I want.” He says and to top it all off he puts his finger on her lips to stop her from interrupting him.
“Okay fine you’re broken up but that still doesn’t mean that I have feelings for you, it’s against girl code to date your best friends ex.” Caroline says irritated and running out of excuses.
“You dated Matt.” Stefan brings up amused that she was saying that when she’s already dated one of her friends exes.
She freezes before sighing and gritting out to him, “Yes I did.”
“And he’s Elena’s ex-boyfriend.” He delights in pointing it out to her, the look on her face was just glorious with the way her eyebrows pinched together and how she looked anywhere except for him. She doesn’t respond and she’s still not looking at him which is starting to annoy him.
“Hey look at me.” He asks making his voice turn soft for the chance that she’ll actually look at him, she doesn’t look in fact she stubbornly continues to stare at the wall.
His eyes darken and he grabs hold of her face and makes her face him this time she does only because he has more strength being the older one between them. Stefan’s voice radiated satisfaction and so did his face, “There you are!”
Was he really that excited for her to look at him? It was kind of… cute, ugh she can’t believe she just thought that, this is Ripper Stefan who could and probably would tear her head off. Ripper Stefan who knows no sense of self control, who feeds until his victims heads pop off and this is also humanity-less Stefan who cares for no one.
“What’s with that look? You look like you want to kill me.” He comments actually kind of enjoying the way she looked like she was barely restraining herself him from launching him across the room
“You look like you’re enjoying this a bit too much.” She tells him already tired of having to deal with him.
“I mean you’re the one who’s fully capable of pushing me away but you still stay in my arms almost like you enjoy it.” Stefan points out to her amused that she’s yet to realise that she can just slip out of his arms she’s also a vampire after all she may be a baby vamp but she’s hell of a lot stronger than most give her credit for.
Caroline straightens her back realising that he’s right she doesn’t have to stay between him and the wall she just chose not to. Now that he’s brought it up she shoves him away and walks away intent on leaving but of course he wasn’t letting her go that easy.
“Uh uh you don’t get to do that.”
“Ugh seriously, you don’t have anything better to do?” She groans questioning him wondering what he wants from her and also what exactly it is he does when he’s not bothering her because he’s constantly around her.
“I mean I do have a doppelganger to watch over but you know I think Damon has it handled.” He tells her clearly content to let his older brother watch over her.
“You and I both know he does a terrible job.”
“He does but he also would do anything for her therefore making him the perfect man for the job.”
She scoffs over that muttering bitterly under her breath. “Of course.”
“I know that you don’t like him.” He says before falling silent as he wonders how he can make her feel better, he shouldn’t be feeling anything however he couldn’t stop himself from offering, “I could kill him for you.”
That startles a laugh out of Caroline and Stefan stares mesmerised by the sound of her pure laughter that he had managed to cause, what does he have to do to have her make that sound more often? He wonders as he realises that he is just as mesmerised by her as he is by the sound she makes.
He wants to see more of her, her naked self, who she is when she’s not trying to be a ‘good’ vampire. Also if he wants to just see her naked then that’s no one’s business but his own, Stefan could just imagine the sounds she would make as he pushes himself into her, the moans she would make would be incredible but of course Caroline is too loyal to Elena to actually go for it.
They stay in silence for a bit just standing there next to each other as tension slowly clouded over them. Though it was two different kinds of tension that influenced them like how Caroline’s is nervousness at being alone with an unpredictable vampire who could snap at any moment and Stefan’s is sexual because he hasn’t fucked anyone in so long and Caroline’s never going to go for it at least not if she knows that Stefan emotion having Stefan wants it.
“What are you really doing here bothering me?” She asks tired of this back and forth of him avoiding her questions.
“Caroline I’m telling the truth when I say that I find you interesting, I mean it’s not very often you meet a vampire who was turned in a Hospital—and manages to leave there without killing a single person there.” He tells her the impressed undertone very clear in his voice.
“Is that really so uncommon?”
“Many vampires after they are turned commit massacre after massacre and even kill they’re loved ones so yes it is surprising that you would be turned in a hospital full of blood and not kill anyone there.”
“It was close.” Caroline admits for a reason that not even she knows, it wasn’t really something she thought about often in fact she tries her hardest to not remember. She does however think about killing that guy at the carnival quite often a lot more than she would like.
“Right but you had control from basically the moment you turned.”
“I guess that control freaky nature of mine came in handy.” She says with an awkward laugh.
“Right and you still struggled with the blood lust.” He says and she can’t help wonder what is going through his mind. Caroline almost wants to ask him what he’s thinking but then his lips are on hers she doesn’t have time to think about what’s going on she just kisses him back and then he’s gone disappeared like he was never there.
