Chapter Text
Izuku laid in bed. Way too awake for it being 3 in the morning. He wants to sleep but the pain wouldn’t let him.
It is a Sunday night or well Monday and he has to wake up for school sooner rather than later but he was so hungry. He hasn’t had a meal since school lunch last Friday and sadly his body doesn’t seem to notice that there is nothing available for him.
So right now everything he can do is close his eyes and hope that sleep will take him soon.
However that seems unrealistic given the loud noise coming from the living room.
His mother has guest over like most of the time. They were loud and rude. They never seem to care that a teen is just a few rooms over.
Izuku really doesn’t know how the neighbours can just ignore all this chaos. He knows they can hear it.
He heard them complaining about it several times but they seem to just ignore it otherwise.
His stomach growls again loudly.
Izuku rolls into a tight ball and presses down into his stomach. Hoping that it will ease his pain just a bit and to stop the growling.
He knows it’s not loud enough to hear outside his room but the irrational fear that anybody could hear him still made him clench his stomach.
What he would give for a warm meal right now.
He is not stupid though. If he tried to sneak into the kitchen now, his mother would see him and really he doesn’t fancy a beating on top of the hunger pains.
He knows he is being dramatic.
He managed to steal a slice of bread on Saturday when his mother was passed out on the couch.
Many kids had it worse. They didn’t even have that slice of bread.
He elected to ignore that he is a hero student and that his quirk requires more calories than a normal teen would need.
If he couldn’t even handle a bit of pain, he really wasn’t suited for the hero course.
Izuku just hoped that his mother would be asleep in the morning so that he can sneak into the kitchen. Otherwise he would just wait until lunch.
_____________
He didn’t know when he fell asleep, but by the way he felt like he had been hit by a bus it must not have been so long ago.
Mornings were always the worst.
Standing up seems to be a problem today too.
When Izuku stood up on wobbly legs, he immediately felt himself swaying from side to side.
Everything turned black for a moment and he had to hold onto his dresser to not meet the floor face first.
After several seconds the fog in front of his eyes cleared enough for him to get ready.
Still dizzy he quickly changed. With a nearly empty water bottle he wet his tooth brush and after brushing his teeth, he spat the paste out in his trashcan.
It was disgusting, but the bathroom door has been broken for a while now. He really can’t deal with his mother now or her guest, who were always really weird with him and most likely drunk or on drugs.
He also needed to shower today too. Dry shampoo and deodorant can only carry you so far until it becomes noticeable.
Good thing it was a Monday.
On Mondays he was able to shower at his grandmother’s place.
She wasn’t really his grandma, but he likes to refer to her in such a manner as she helps him out a lot.
She is just a nice neighbour who he helps out around the house but after she always lets him use her shower so freshen up.
He would be until then.
At least it wasn’t the middle of summer. That always was the worst time for him.
Before leaving his room he listened for people outside and he heard his mother talking to someone.
Izuku sighed. There goes his hope for a breakfast.
Quickly but silently rushing out of his room and out the door, he started his way to school.
He hopes it wouldn’t be such a hard day, but he had heroics today so he can forget it probably.
He loved All Might but he always overdid his classes and he wasn’t sure he could deal with that today.

School was mostly fine.
Izuku noticed Aizawa-sensei staring at him during homeroom but otherwise the day was more laid back than hoped for.
The bell for lunch just rang and Izuku was quickly putting away his notebooks.
Finally, he could eat something.
“Midoriya, stay back.” Well, here goes his lunch and to think he thought the day was going fine just a second ago. He really shouldn’t have jinxed it.
Coming to a stop in front of his teachers desk, he really hoped this would not take too long.
“Yes, sir. You wanted to see me.”
Aizawa looked at Midoriya for second before starting to speak.
“Some of your teachers came up to me recently. Can you guess why that is?”
“I’m sorry, sensei, but I don’t know.”
Izuku hoped again that would not take too long but by the look in Aizawa’s face that was probably in vain.
“Your performance in class has been worse recently. Additionally your assignments were not the usual quality. Your grades took quite the hit from what I have been told especially in math” Aizawa waited a second before he spoke again. “I don’t think I have to tell you what happens when your grades lower more. UA is a school with high standards and I expect all my students to perform as well as they can. Obviously you don’t right now because I know that your normally better then this. So what is going on?”
For a second Izuku just stared. What was he supposed to say. Yeah my mom isn’t feeding me anymore and the pain keeps me awake at night. Oh, also, I have been too dizzy to think straight most days. It’s actually a surprise that I manage to do the homework.
Yeah, no, that wasn’t an option.
However, Aizawa was a pro-hero. He would see through his lies the moment he would dare to utter them.
“I haven’t been sleeping a lot, I’m sorry. From now on I will try to participate more and improve my writing. I’m sorry for falling behind.”
Yes, that should work. Not a lie, but also not the truth. He really hasn’t been sleeping a lot.
“Fine, problem child. You are dismissed for now, but I expect positive review from your teachers.”
Nodding Izuku rushed out of the room. Maybe if he is lucky he has enough time to still have at least a bit food.

Aizawa looked after his student and sighed.
It was clear he wasn’t telling the whole truth but he couldn’t force Midoriya to speak with him.
He just has to observe him for now and speak with some people.
Sighing again he stood up and made his way to the teachers lounge. He has to speak with All Might and Hizashi.
