Work Text:
The hammock swings gently in the breeze between two massive trees, the leaves creating a shady canopy, and the scent of saltwater fills the air. The sound of the water splashing against the shore is a lullaby, and with how peaceful it is, Leon could fall asleep.
With a book nestled against his chest, Leon turns his head and looks out at the water. It’s a beautiful shade of blue with white caps cresting the waves before crashing into the sandy shore.
“Enjoying yourself?”
Leon sat up and turned his head to where he heard the voice. He found his husband, Chris, walking towards him with some canned drinks in his hands. Leon reaches out a hand and takes the offered can with a smile.
“I am,” Leon hums and cracks the can open, “I’m surprised we both were approved for vacation. You know how both our jobs can be.”
“I’m aware.” Chris cracks open his drink. “You got any plans for the week?”
“Never make plans that are ahead,” Leon chuckles, “But a walk on the shoreline could be a good start.”
And that’s what they did.
Warm sand was displaced with each step, leaving a trail of footprints that were washed away within seconds of being made. They have most of the island to themselves, and Leon planned on making the most of the week.
It is the beginning of their week-long vacation after all.
“How did you get this island to be mostly for us alone?” Leon hums as he looks out at the water while he and Chris walk.
“I pulled in a few favors,” Chris answered, “Though I feel like Umber Eyes and Tundra were in cahoots with Sherry in some way.”
“Oh?” Leon turns his attention to his husband, “Why do you think that?”
“The island we’re vacationing on is one that I’ve mentioned to my squad before,” Chris says, “It seems a bit strange that Sherry mentioned the place, since I know I haven’t told her.”
“I’m not surprised,” Leon laughs, “She’s quite a friendly person, even after everything she’s gone through.”
“She is,” Chris agrees.
They walk until the sun begins to set, and they return to the cabin nestled on the island, speaking about what they want for dinner.
“Have you ever cooked a hot dog over a fire before?”
Leon looked over to Chris and hummed a simple response, “No.”
Chris looks out at the small fire pit, “Do you want to?”
“Maybe sometime later in the week,” Leon walks over to his husband and leans into him, “I’m feeling spaghetti.”
“Ok,” Chris smiles, “I would have to find wood to get a fire going if you wanted fire-cooked hot dogs.”
“We can do that sometime tomorrow, if you want,” Leon says as he finds a pot and starts to fill it with water.
“Yeah,” Chris hums, “We can do that tomorrow. A bit of exploration of the island to start kicking this vacation off. I heard this island has a beautiful waterfall somewhere.”
“Oh?” Leon chirps as he sets the pot of water on the burner to boil. Next, he grabs some tomatoes and washes them, “It’s been a while since I’ve seen a waterfall up close. Chris, can you see what fresh herbs we have?”
“Of course, love,” Chris walks over to his husband and plants a kiss against his cheek.
He opens the fridge to do as his husband asks.
