Summer Get Together

Summary:

It’s a rare thing for Leon and Chris to have time to spend for themselves. But when they do, they can’t help but enjoy it with others in the like-minded field of work.

With Jake manning the grill, Jill setting up the table, and Sherry and Claire keeping themselves busy, Leon and Chris take the time to relax.

There’s a little guest as well, nestled between Leon and the chair he’s claimed as his.

Work Text:

Leon sits in a chair under an umbrella, a book in one hand and a can of soda in the other. He keeps his ears open to listen to the sounds of the others around him. He lowers the book to his lap and looks out to see Sherry launching a water balloon at Claire, who, in return, does the same.

He turns his attention to where the grill sat and finds Jake, another alpha, grilling some food. He can see some hot dogs, burgers, and chicken grilling on the grill. There’s a table that Jill had filled with anything and everything one would need for a cookout.

He's comfortable with the pack. Three alphas, two betas, and himself, the only omega. Leon couldn't help the purr that vibrated his throat and the sweet scent of a completely content omega.

“Leon?”

At the sound of his husband’s voice, the omega turned his head and hummed, “Yes?”

“Planning on joining them?” Chris motions to the two women with his head.

“Not really,” Leon leans back with a sigh, “Not feeling it at the moment.”

The alpha raised a brow as a half smirk pulled on his face, “Is that so? Or is it cause of the egg that’s nestled between you and the chair?”

“I don’t know what you're talking about.” Leon pulls up his book and pretends he didn’t hear his husband.

“Don’t be like that.” Chris shifts in his chair so he’s facing Leon and places a hand against his shoulder, “Everything’s fine. No one's dumb enough to try to take her without asking, you know that. Come on, why not join them? You can take a dip in the pool.”

“I know, I know.” Leon hums as he lets the book flop, “I just don’t want to at the moment. Maybe I’ll take a swim once Sherry and Claire have tired themselves out a little more.”

“Good luck with that.” Chris snorted as he shifted to lean back into his shaded chair, “The food will be ready by the time they’re tired.”

“Fine by me,” Leon chirped, “I am feeling kinda hungry anyways.”

“You're always hungry,” Chris snorts.

“Everyone here tends to be always hungry.” Leon chuckles as he looks at the pool, “I think a swim after lunch will be nice.”

“Man, I wish we had some water guns,” Chris says, “Do you know how crazy this would get?”

“You’d be targeted so much,” Leon laughs, “Claire and Jake would team up against you.”

“You’d be a target too,” Chris huffs, “Don’t think you’d be safe. I can bribe my sister if needed.”

Leon rolled his eyes, “Yeah, yeah. But that doesn’t stop Jake. Doubt you can bribe him.”

Chris opened his mouth to say something when Jake called out.

“Lunch’s ready!!”

Leon watches as everyone descends on the table to fix their buns. He’d make his plate once everyone has settled and he finds a good place that’ll accommodate him and his daughter’s egg.

Yeah, he’s not planning on leaving her egg on the chair while he’s at a table eating.

“Leon!”

He turns his head to see Sherry waving him over. He knows why she’s calling him, “I’ll be there soon.”

Slipping off the chair, Leon picks up the egg and makes his way to the table. There’s a spot near the edge that looks big enough for him and the precious cargo to fit. And it’s next to Chris, which is a bonus!

Sitting down, Leon shifts the egg to have it nestled on both his and Chris' thighs. Across the table from him are Claire, Jill, and Sherry. He turns to Chris and gives him a kiss when the other slides a plate with a fully put-together hamburger in front of him.

“So,” Jill says around a bite of macaroni salad, “When will she hatch?”

Leon hums as he knocks his knuckles against the surface of the egg. He feels his lips twitch into a smile at the movement, “I’d say in about… two months. Give or take a few days. She doesn’t like coming out of her shell sometimes.”

“Last time she hatched, we had to make the opening bigger by chipping away some fragments.” Chris says, “Not sure why she didn’t want to come out.”

“She realized that she’ll have to go back to fighting bioterrorism and said, ‘Fuck that.’ I would too if I could.”

Everyone busted out laughing. Leon laughed to the point of wheezing while Sherry scolded Jake between giggles. Soon, everyone calmed down, and lunch had turned into a peaceful time for catching up.

After Lunch was done, Leon returned to the chair to allow his stomach to settle and to place his daughter’s egg back where it had been. He isn’t all that sure who he’d ask to keep an eye on the egg while he took a swim in the pool.

Sherry would happily volunteer, while Jake would grumble about him not being a babysitter. Though Leon knew Jake didn’t mind it all that much. The mercenary is one of the many reasons why his daughters tend to get into trouble.

Next is Claire. Aunt Claire would be a good choice. She’s looked after both of Leon’s B.O.W daughters before and can handle them with an ease that Leon wishes he possessed. But Claire also loved to get the jump on her brother when she could. If Chris were to take a dip in the pool with him, Leon wouldn’t put it past Claire to pester her brother in some way.

The late one is Jill. To Leon's knowledge, Jill had not babysat any of his daughters before, mostly due to her being in different parts of the world doing her own job. When she does have time, it’s more of a group get-together thing.

“Leon?”

Leon turns his head to find Chris standing next to him. With a hum, he says, “Just overthinking.”

“Again?”

“Yeah,” Leon shrugged, “You know it happens a lot more with this kind of situation."

“I know,” Chris hums, “Did you choose who you’d be dropping the little one off with?”

“Sherry? Maybe Jill.” Leon hums, “I guess whoever’s up for it.”

“I’m pretty sure Sherry and Claire need a break, and no, lunch is not considered a break.”

Leon snorted out a laugh, “Good luck telling them that. I think in about an hour, I’ll take a dip in the pool.”

“If you don’t fall asleep, that is.”

Leon felt his eyes twitch. What did his husband take him for? A fool? He wouldn’t dare fall asleep with his daughter’s egg out in the open. If there had been a pillow, Leon would have launched it at his husband. Maybe Sherry and Claire didn’t use all the water balloons.

“What’s that supposed to mean, Redfield?”

“I don’t know,” Chris shrugs, faking innocence.

Leon leveled a look at his husband, “You'd better pray that Sherry and Claire used all the water balloons.”

A smirk pulled on Chris’ lips, “And why's that?”

“You know why,” Leon narrowed his eyes, “Watch yourself, Redfield.”

Chris snorted, seeming pleased with himself.

Leon opened his mouth to say something but saw Claire sneaking up to her brother with a water balloon in each hand. Right behind her was Jake, who had a clear bucket with some water and more balloons. Leon turned to his husband as a smirk pulled on his lips.

“You might want to start running,”

“Why—” Chris turned his head and saw the reason, “Ah, shit!”

Leon howled with laughter as he watched Chris take off with his sister and Jake in tow.
