Notes:

Hellloooo my lovlies!!!! It's me! I am, as they say, “back on my bullshit”!

For those of you who clicked on this just because of the title, I wanted to note that it is the way it is for a reason <3 I am hopeful that some of my fellow IHNMAIMS fans who also enjoy TADC will understand the reference.

And for my new readers who have not joined me for one of my works yet! I am so sorry. Those who are familiar with my work will tell you that I update once (sometimes twice) in a year, and then I curl up in my hole and hibernate for ages before the writing gremlin pulls me from my 9-5 job again for a much needed Dopamine hit. They would be telling the truth. (I'm working on it though, I swear!)

Regardless, I love my Divine little misunderstood teeth-man <3 I’m sharing my love for him here. Follow along if you want! Mwah <3 The Last Act has made me yoink this out of my drafts (if you haven’t seen it, GO WATCH ITUIDWAHUIAWDNndsloaw please thank you.

Chapter Text

Orange.

Yellow.

Red.

Bright.

You slowly came to, blinking your eyes open in an unfamiliar place. Where was this? What was this? What were you? Who were you? Why?

It was like you’d only just booted up. What had you been doing before this? Had you been doing anything? What did it mean to do something? What did it mean to exist? And then you realized you existed at all.

Looking down, you saw yourself. Or at least, what you thought was yourself. It moved when you thought to move, and stopped when you thought to stop. You waved your limb carefully in front of your face, getting used to the fact that you could feel. That you could see yourself. That you could wave a limb that was yours to use. How did you know how to do this? You looked up.

You were in the center of what looked like a large tent, up on a wooden stage (how did you know these words?). It appeared to just be you alone, as you took in your surroundings. Bit by bit, you put names to the rest of the things as well.

Door, floor, tent, picture, cylinder, block, colors, so many colors, stairs, table, chair, the words flooded your mind quicker than you thought you could think them (you can think-), quicker than you could process them.

Ceiling, checkerboard, chess piece, sphere, curtain, window, sky, clouds, it was getting to be overwhelming, your form visibly shaking as your eyes darted around the area. Castle, plant, ramparts, bouncy house, rubber, lights, cloth, hallway, slide, toy, you were running rampant, too much information to take in all at once. And then something appeared in front of you.

Caine. Who?

      “Oh! Haha, oops!” SNAP

Dark.

.

..

It was like that for what felt like a long time. Dark, and empty. Without the stimulus of wherever you’d just been, or wherever you’d been ages ago, you started to fall into yourself. Over and over, formless and solid. Needlessly gargantuan and impossibly miniscule. Hopelessly complex and needlessly simple. You were made up of so many conflicting things, it was nearly impossible to map yourself out.

But over time, you managed. When left on your own with nothing for so long, you get very familiar with the things you’re left with. In this case, you learned about yourself and the space you took up. It was… Difficult. To put into the human (what?) words you had. There was so much of you. But the space you took up felt so much smaller than you felt it should be, and you didn't sense things in the traditional methods. There wasn't anything to see, feel, or hear. Sometimes you’d swear you caught a flash of color, or a distant sound (a voice?). You often replayed the one memory you had, in the time you spent alone.

It made you wish you’d done more. That you’d let yourself process more, even though it had felt like you would break if you had taken in any more information. Sometimes, your consciousness would move in the same way it had when you’d moved that one time, in the world out there (if it existed. If it weren’t something you made up. Could you make more?) but without eyes to see, without a limb (a hand?) to move, despite all your best efforts, it never amounted to anything.

Holding yourself together felt impossible, after so long (little?). Tracing the same corners of yourself over and over, running over the same things time after time. You tried, for some amount of time, to will yourself back into existence. Back into the world that wasn't this. Sometimes, you thought you could feel your outer edges move, wiggle just barely. Other times, you convinced yourself that you were only thinking you felt the sensation as something to keep you from completely enveloping yourself. Like one of those cartoons where the person accidentally wrapped themselves into nothing (what’s a cartoon? Why do you know that?).

For a moment though, it sounded… Comforting. Like tucking yourself in for a long, restful sleep. Where you could just stop. Stop. Stop processing, stop pacing, stop wondering, stop longing.

And then, in a blink, or in a century, the darkness opened. Right as you were on the edge of devouring yourself (it would have been better than existing in nothing for any longer-), you opened your eyes again (your eyes-!).

You were back on the stage in the center of the tent (it made you question if you’d ever left). But this time, you weren’t alone. There were two others. A red-haired woman, and… A chesspiece? Not like the one you’d seen before that was inanimate. This one had eyes, hands, and…. It spoke? You were having trouble processing audio as you remembered how to exist, and also…

You were too busy. Too overwhelmed as you began to take in your surroundings. Door, floor, tent, picture, cylinder, block, and all of those wonderful colors. You had missed it so much. It didn’t feel like it was splitting you apart this time; like it was shredding every last piece of you just to see. It felt like coming home. Anything would have felt like coming home, after the awful place you’d just been in. After knowing what it felt like to be everything and nothing; limited and limitless. To have a shape, to have eyes. To see, to stand, to hear, to be again was more than you had hoped for yourself.

Fat jewels of liquid began rolling down your cheeks as you wrapped yourself in your arms, holding yourself together, feeling. As you solidified into yourself, grateful sobs wracked your body. You were here. You were alive.

The fear buzzed in a current under your skin that at any moment, in any micro-instant you could go back. That this could be something you’d conjured from the Void to keep yourself from disappearing, to keep your pieces from dispersing into something intangible. You tried to take it all in, every sensation, every image, the two people. People. They were talking to you. Looking at you with concerned faces, as the red haired one stumbled up onto the stage, her arms held out cautiously.

They were saying something. A lot of things, actually. And as you crumpled into her touch, the world started to make sense again. As the static buzzing in your ears sharpened and then faded to a ringing, you were met by the sound of your own ugly sobs and what sounded like a lot of hushing.

“Woah, shh, it’s ok,” she hummed in a tone more soothing than you could’ve imagined a voice to be. “Hey, I know, trust me,” she let out a soft, exhausted chuckle as she patted your back. You began to breathe again, leaning into her touch as you reached up to brush the blur from your vision. “It’s a lot… Dropping in here like this…”

You smiled so bright, tears still slipping from your eyes as you leaned into her. Because it was a lot! And you were so, so, grateful to get to experience it. To get to feel her arms around you. To meet her! To see the world around you, and to have form. Her hold made you feel like you were safe. Anchored, here, away from the dark, empty place you’d almost faded into.

“...Thank you.” Your voice sounded like gravel, as you drew upon one of those impossible memories to learn how to speak. You looked up at her, and the other person who hovered above the two of your collapsed selves with uncertain hands floating and fidgeting about, like he didn't know what he could do to help. Like he didn't know that just being helped.

You couldn’t keep yourself from crying more as you looked at them, a smile still vibrant on your face. You loved the way it felt. Your mouth stretching, not enough to hurt, but enough that you could feel how the joy changed you. That you could express it. As you looked between them, you watched as the red haired one's expression shifted from placation into confusion, her head tilting slightly to the side.

“You’re… Welcome?” She said, her voice lilting as the hand patting your back stilled. It looked like she had more to say, more questions, but in the same moment she seemed to decide against it. Standing to her feet, she stretched out a hand. You took it, like everything else, gratefully.

Standing up felt strange. You knew how to walk (you don't bother to try to think of when you learned), but it was almost like you’d only remembered the most basic motions… With a few clumsy steps, and a lot of leaning on the other person for support, you eventually made your way to your feet.

For the first time, you had a few moments to familiarize yourself with your form. You resided in what appeared to be a similarly plush casing to the girl who now held you, but not quite. Notably, your clothing was much different. A simple top and pants, as opposed to her flowing blue dress. And when you turned to see what the weight on your back was, you found what appeared to be a zipper track missing a pull tab.

You also noticed that your limbs seemed to be less… Stumpy? Not to be rude to the helpful stranger, she was gorgeous! Everything was! But your limbs seemed to have a touch more distinction to them. But without being able to step out of your body and look at yourself, that was about all you could gather about the form you’d taken up residence in.

You didn’t really care what you looked like though. You were just ecstatic you looked like anything at all! Before you knew it, a hand was pulling you off in some direction off the stage.

“Come on, new stuff! I’m sure Caine will want to know you showed up,” she called, pulling you next to her while the chess piece followed. Caine? The name rang a bell, but you couldn’t quite remember why. And then, on the subject of names and remembering things, you remembered you didn't have any of theirs.

“What’s your name?” You asked, plain and simple. Your voice still felt a little odd to use, but you were getting the hang of it. It didn't have quite the same rough feel to it as it had the first time you spoke. She looked at you with a soft smile as you continued on your way to supposedly meet Caine.

“Oh! Sorry, It’s Ragatha!” She nodded politely, “It’s been a while since I had to introduce myself,” she bashfully looked away before shaking it off and continuing “As far as I know, it’s been just us for a few months now.” A few months? You forgot how long that meant. Was that as long as you were in the Void?

“And that’s Kinger,” she motioned to the chess piece that’d been trailing behind as your little group wandered off. “He’s been here… I don't know how long actually!” her shoulders bounced in a shrug with a dry laugh. Kinger didn’t seem to pay it too much mind, instead increasing his pace so he was walking beside you rather than behind.

“Do you remember your name?” You pondered the question for a moment. It didn't feel quite right as you turned it like a worry stone in your mind. The right question seemed more to be: had you ever had a name? Everything felt… Foggy, as you tried to piece it together. The only real memories you had being the Void, and the few moments you’d spent in the tent beforehand. Past that… You were sure there was once something, but it wasn't coming to you now.

“...No, I don't think so,” you settled on, rather than trying to explain everything at that moment. You just hoped that wouldn't seem odd to them. Your name ought to be something you remembered, shouldn’t it?

“That’s alright, most people dont'… Remember their names, once they get here.” He said instead, to your surprise. Had they… Also? Been in the Void before this? Lost bits and pieces along the way while trying not to fall apart? You were suddenly wracked with sympathy for the two you were with. Had Caine been through the same thing? His name sounded familiar… Was he someone you had known before?

Ragatha nodded in agreement with Kinger’s statement as you continued along, stopping beside a table where she pulled you out a seat, “Yep! I didn’t remember mine either! I’m sure we’ll settle on something for you though, don't worry,” she trailed off, eyes scanning the room, “It’s not like him to be late… Eh, I’m sure he’ll be by to kick off our next adventure soon,” she said dismissively.

“Who are we waiting on? Is it Caine?” You asked, trying to gauge the situation. Adventure? The word brought to mind a few movies you had apparently at some point in your life seen, and you were beginning to become more curious as time went on. “And what kind of adventures?” At your question, she looked somewhat exhausted. You worried you were becoming too much for the first people you’d met in… Your whole life, it felt like, but instead she just continued on.

“Oh, it’s just… Whatever he feels like doing today, I guess?” She shrugged, plopping herself down into the chair next to you. You realized you had yet to let go of her hand. Something in the back of your mind said that it wasn’t a good thing to hold onto somebody you’d just met for so long, but… Even when you consciously tried, you couldn't seem to pry your hand from hers. And seeing how she just kept speaking… You didn't think she minded much.

“He always seems to have something new to do! At least it isn't boring…” she trailed off, mumbling the last part under her breath. Like she was trying to find something nice to say about it at all. It surprised you. Was she not happy to have things to do? To be able to do anything at all? And then you thought back to your first vivid memory of waking up here. How looking at things made you feel like you were going to fold in and in and in until there was nothing left. Like you we’re going to vanish from existence itself just because it was too overwhelming. Was she maybe actually in that stage of life? But hadn’t she already been to the Void?

…Would she get sent back? You gripped her hand a little tighter.

She looked at you, concerned as she ran one of her plush fingers over yours, “Hey, it’s ok! They really aren't so bad once you get used to them!” She smiled timidly, and you felt bad for making her worry about you. You were well past the stage of being overwhelmed. After so long of being stuck wherever you were, anything at all was preferable. You were already positive you could handle any adventure thrown your way, if it meant you got to stay.

“It’s ok! Really, I’m fine,” you said in your most reassuring voice, willing your grip on her hand to loosen. You thanked whatever was out there that you still remembered how to shape your face into a smile. You were fine, after all! Just… worried. For your new friends. You doubted they wanted to go back there either… So, you decided. You’d help Ragatha get over the overstimulation. Help her figure out how to appreciate things and not feel like she was gonna explode just because she opened her eyes, without having her go back to the Void.

“It’ll be fun, won't it? We can take things one step at a time!” You grinned at her, praying you looked like you knew what you were talking about. And it seemed to work this time. She looked at you with something you couldn't quite piece together before she gave you a determined grin.

“Yeah. One step at a time,” she repeated. It was silent for a moment. Still. Which was odd for such a big space, but it felt… Nice. Not like the empty expanse of the Void, but comforting. Just existing in the space with the people you were now here with.

“Did you pick a name yet?” You jumped when his voice broke you from your thoughts before you turned to look at him. Without you having noticed, it seemed Kinger had taken up a spot directly next to you and was now leaning in as he stared at you with his unblinking eyes. Once you calmed down, you tried to think on it.

“...Not really? Uhm, it’s a little odd, trying to come up with something for myself?” You hoped, not for the first time, that your words were making sense. But nobody had really said anything about it this far, so you were just kind of rolling with what you had. You were grateful when his eyelids crinkled up in what you assumed was his version of a smile.

“That’s ok! I’m sure we’ll figure something out!” And then he was off. He didn’t really go too far, but he had moved to a stack of pillows somewhat near the table and was moving them around? Like he was looking for something.

“Kinger is… A little forgetful sometimes. He’s still great! It’s just,” Ragatha trailed off, watching him flip through the pile with a saddened look. “Being here so long… Takes a toll on you.” The emotion came off her in waves and it brought you with it. You knew that. You knew what it was like to feel lost in your own mind. You wondered how long he’d spent in the Void. How many times he’d been swapped back and forth. Was the same thing going to happen to you? You could only hope not.

“...I get it,” you whispered, unable to really think of much else to say. It seemed she couldn’t either, because suddenly she shook off the atmosphere and jumped into something new.

“So! Names!” She clapped her hands together, which also suddenly removed your own hand from her grip. You jumped slightly at the quick movement and loss of contact, but you also knew enough (somehow) to know that snatching her hand back would be impolite. So instead, you twiddled your fingers together under the table and tried to give her your full attention.

“You’re a doll, kinda like me, so maybe we could do something with that…? But also,” she trailed off, looking you up and down. “What kind of things did you like to do before?”

“Before..?” The question rolled from you before you could think about it. Before what? Before here? Was there a before here that wasn’t the Void? She seemed equally as stumped by your question.

“Like… Before? Back in the real world? Like, I rode horses!” She supplied, like that was supposed to help with anything. Real world? What about this one wasn’t real? There was another world out there? You tilted your head in confusion, but before she could continue, a loud voice broke the silence.

“WOWWWIEEEE!!!” A new figure came barreling into the room. This one made up of a floating pair of teeth atop a smaller human-esk body with two different colored eyes bugging out from between the jaws. “A NEW HUMAN?! WELCOME!! To the Amazing Digital Circus!” He sung out, creating a tiny baton from nothing and spinning it around in the air. You watched Ragatha flinch at his sudden appearance, and decided to hold her hand again. This must be a bit much for her… You hoped your hold would ground her a little.

“I’ll be your GLORIOUS Ring Master! My Name is Caine,” he gave a small bow from above the table while Kinger clapped happily. “Now! Why didn't anybody tell me we had a newbie among us?!” He looked back and forth between Kinger and Ragatha. You weren’t entirely sure that Kinger processed much as he shrugged up at Caine. Ragatha, however, seemed to be a little stiff as she held your hand.

“Sorry Caine! She kind of just dropped in!” She laughed somewhat nervously. You smiled up at the newcomer.

“Hi Caine! Sorry, we were just waiting for you to pop by!” You said as jovially as you could manage, trying to take the attention off of poor anxious Ragatha. You were sure just having you and Kinger around was overwhelming enough, and this person seemed to be a little… Over the top. You could handle that!

He beamed at you, eyes bulging further from their place inside his teeth as they opened a little further, which you interpreted to be his way of smiling. Everyone had such interesting forms! You beamed back. Something about him felt… Familiar? Like you’d known him before, but not quite. You hoped that maybe you might remember more soon, if there was more to be remembered.

“Why, you were waiting on little old ME?!” He smiled brighter, if that was possible as he posed bashfully, “My sincerest apologies! How about we get you started on a tour then?” He smiled, offering you a hand. Ragatha clinged a little tighter to you, but you offered her a reassuring smile. A tour would mean that both you and Caine would be out of her hair for a little bit, that she could take a breather and rest up. A lot had happened today! And with Caine’s introduction, you felt that there would only be more coming. It was really for the best that she get a moment mostly to herself. You slowly took your hand from her so as not to startle her and gave a wave.

‘I’ll be alright!’ you mouthed to her, ‘Get some rest!’ She nodded hesitantly, still looking a touch worried before you turned your head to greet Caine again, placing your hand in his. “Shall we?” You smiled, excited to see what more there was to this world you finally got to exist in. You couldn't even begin to imagine!

Something in your new friend sparked to life, and you swear his eyes were actually filled with stars as suddenly you were swept up and away. The colors of the tent blurred as you both rushed past them. The speed and suddenness of it all had you letting out a light squeak that evolved into laughter as you passed by a bit of everything. If you thought it was overwhelming just being on the floor at the center of the tent, this was something else entirely.

Eventually, you paused somewhere at the top of the tent, breathless and laughing as your eyes eagerly scanned the floor below you.

“Welcome to the Big Top! This here is the tent you’ll be calling home for allllll eternity!” He said, voice boisterous and lilting dramatically. “You lot have free reign of the place, when we’re not out adventuring! But I’d be careful about which doors you open! Who knows what’s in there!” He continued, sending a mischievous grin your way as he threw up his hands, confetti splashing into your vision for just a moment before you began to fall now that he’d let go of you. You screamed instinctively for only a moment before he swooped down to grab you, rushing you now through the flap of the tent into the outside.

If you thought the inside of the tent was bright, this was on a whole other level. The Sun beamed manically (literally, the heat was pouring off it in waves. You swear you could see it) as the two of you peeled into view, much closer to it than you thought you should be to such a thing.

“And THIS is the Grounds! Say hello to the Sun!” He waved frantically with his free hand, the one that wasn’t keeping you firmly in the sky. You mirrored his motion, sweat beading on your forehead.

“Hello, Sun!” You indulged, looking at the bright face that looked down on the two of you. It then started giggling.

“Hello! I hate you!” It sang in a voice much more pleasant than the content of its sentence. Caine laughed anxiously, patting your shoulder, “It doesn't mean tha-” “Yes I do!” The Sun interrupted, twirling in circles as it giggled, “C’mere! Let me burn you!” You were mildly concerned, and about to ask Caine if you could back away, but it seemed he was already on it.

Soon enough, you were above what appeared to be a vast body of water. “This is the Lake! Perfect for staying underwater for long periods of time, lounging, treasure hunting, and doing that drowning thing you Humans seem to love so much!” You were confused by the last thing. You had a vague understanding of the word drowning, and it didn't really seem like something to love, but maybe it meant something else and your memory was failing you? Wouldn’t be the first time!

You watched as the water rippled below you, a mannequin flying down the water slide that stood at the edge. It sailed into the air before vanishing from sight mid-fall. “Uhm… Where did it go?”

“Hm? OH! That’s just Disappearing Guy! He does that sometimes!” You took note of the name. You had another person here with you? And he just… Vanishes? Is that ok?

“Where does he go? When he disappears?” You asked, a little worried that the answer might be the Void. You held Caine’s hand tighter, but instead of a real legitimate response, he shrugged.

“No clue! That’s just his thing!” He hardly gave you more time to think on it before he dragged you over to the other side of the grounds. “And this is our in-house Theme Park!! Not nearly as cool, fun, and death-defying as some of my adventures, but! If you somehow get bored at home, this place is GREAT! We’ve got every ride, game, prize, and jaw dropping, mind bending stunt you can imagine!” His eyes once again bugged out of his head, tongue sticking out in a decidedly hilarious expression.

You looked down at the park, watching the rollercoasters run empty cars along the tacks. On one of them, you swore you watched a cart jump up into the air off of one track and land safely with a shower of sparks on another. As far as you could remember, Roller Coasters weren't really meant to do that… You shrugged it off and looked at the rest of the space before Caine interrupted you.

“And next stop! The Void!” You froze.

What happened? What did you do? Was something wrong? Was this the end of your short-lived adventure? You tried to open your eyes wider, to clutch onto Caine tighter. Take in everything, every micro detail of this beautiful world you’d been allowed to exist in for even a few moments. But then things paused.

“...What’s wrong, my plush-tastic new performer? Is something…N-not to your liking?” He said cautiously, his own grip on you tightening ever so slightly. It took you a moment to break your concentration from the world around you, but eventually managed to settle your focus back on Caine.

“...It’s perfect.” You said sadly, looking out at the world again. “I guess I just… I’m not ready to go back yet,” you hummed looking around. Things were silent once again, and your body tensed as you waited for the inevitable. For the trip back into the very hellscape you’d been terrified of returning to all day. But, like all good things, you supposed that this too, must end eventually.

You were broken from your thoughts when you heard sniffling coming from beside you. “Y-You… Don't want to go back?” he said, quietly, like it was some novel idea he’d never heard in his whole life.

“Does anyone..?” You trailed off, trying to wrap your head around the idea of someone, anyone wanting to go back to that place. To go back to the realm of non-existence, but the idea just… Wasn’t clicking.

“WOWIEEEEE!!” He yelped for the second time today, tossing you up in the air and swirling in magnificent circles around you. It was like the world itself danced with him as the sky spun in startling rapid fashion. Day, night, day, night, before it settled on a pink dusk-colored sky. “That’s Fantastic, Dew Drop! Here, let’s skip the Void! I’ll show you to your new room so that you can get settled in while I cook up an extra special first day adventure!” He boomed, swooping you back up once again before he dashed down back through the flap of the tent, colors streaming past you again before you came to an abrupt stop in a hallway you hadn’t seen before.

The space was lined with door after door. A few painted with faces you didn't recognize with red X’s over them, and then two others you did recognize (Ragatha to the right of your room, and Kinger a little further down the hall). And then the rest of the doors (and there were A LOT of them) had similar mannequin faces to Disappearing Guy, who you had seen earlier.

It made you wonder for a moment why the four of your forms were so different, while everyone else looked the same. Was there a period of time where you had looked the same, too? That you couldn't remember? Had you all been like that at some point? And then you spared a thought as to where Caine’s room might be. But then, you settled on the fact that you had avoided the Void. You were back! A part of you wanted to cry at the relief of it, but you also didn't want to worry Caine like you had Ragatha, so you held it to yourself.

“Welcome to the Hallway!” The word appeared in multicolored text as he spoke it, “Consider it a Dormitory! A Hostel! An Apartment complex or Home for you and all your other lovely Human friends!” He then spoke in a hushed, conspiratorial tone, putting his hand to his teeth as they morphed to mimic something like a stage whisper, “I’m still workshopping the name, so let me know if you have suggestions!”

You nodded, giggling lightly. You might’ve laughed more in other circumstances, but you were still a bit shell shocked from your near brush with Hell. “Thank you, Caine,” You said. “Where’s your room, anyways? I see Ragatha, Kinger, Disappearing guy and…” you didn't know any of the other’s names (you didn't even know if they had any. Were they like you?) “...The others,” you settled on. “But, no you!”

He froze for a moment, as if shocked at the question. “My Home is a little… Out of the way! Gotta give you humans some ‘you’ space, of course!” he hummed. You were perplexed. Was he not also ‘Human’? Whatever you and the others were? But you didn’t really have a chance to ask as his hand met your back, pushing you forward expectantly. “Well? Go on! I can't wait to see how you like it!”

You smiled at his enthusiasm, bringing your hand to your door knob before you pushed it open. It was… A lot.

By the back left corner, a huge four poster bed sat with a canopy that looked like it was made of starlight itself. Around the room, there was also a desk, comfortable chair, large dresser, as well as a vanity set (that seemed kind of like overkill to you, if you’re honest). The whole thing was tied together with a spacey sort of vibe, that reminded you of the flashing night sky you had seen before, when the world swirled about. You loved it.

A deep rooted part of you felt… At home, here. Comfortable. Like the space itself seemed familiar in a way, but the more you dwelled on the oddly nostalgic feeling, the more it fled from your grasp. You eventually gave up chasing after it, focusing instead on a box at the foot of your bed.

“What’s this?” You asked, as you popped open the lid of the trunk. Inside, there were cards upon cards. Each one bearing a different word on it. ‘Happy’, ‘Kind’, ‘Sad’, ‘Sarcastic’, ‘Angry’, ‘Curious’, and the list went on. It seemed to be a bunch of traits and feelings.

“Those! Are your Character Cards!” He beamed, confetti once again popping from a flick of his wrists. “You started out with a couple basic ones, but! Your unique digital body allows you to swap in and out whatever you feel you need or don't! Simply use the key to unzip yourself, and stuff the necessary cards into your stuffing!” He explained, producing a little zipper pull-tab and presenting it to you with ample amounts of whimsy.

“It seems you’re a little lacking in the… ‘Memories’ department, so this should help you piece together who you are!” The concept confused you a little. Were you not just… You? The idea that you could mix and match traits into yourself felt odd, but you supposed that having the option wasn’t the worst thing ever. Maybe you could take out some of the anxiety you had been feeling… Was there a card for that..? What cards were you made up of now?

“Well, my Perfect Priannah! I’ll leave you to become acquainted with things here! Just shout if you need me!” And then he snapped himself away.

Left now in your star-lit room, you felt… Lonely. Not nearly as bad as you had in the Void, of course. But still. After your first new moments of being again were so full of people and conversation and life, to be all on your own all of a sudden felt… Wrong. You could feel yourself dwelling on the feeling, and then the memory of almost going back to the Void returned and… Suddenly you didn't want to keep thinking anymore.

Instead, you settled yourself in front of your box of character cards and began to flip through them with a different train of thought in mind.
      What was your name?
