Early Wishes

Summary:

With two little brats in his life, Katsuki wasn’t quite sure what he’d be waking up to this time. There was always some kind of stupid crisis looming, and this day would prove no different.

Work Text:

It was the weekend and Katsuki had somehow been looking forward to sleeping in, even though he knew that was an impossibility. His two little snotty, but annoyingly lovable, pups wouldn’t let him get away with that.

Still, he could give it a try.

“Mommy…”

It didn’t work.

“Yeah?” he muttered, feeling so fucking knackered. He couldn’t even bring himself to open his eyes.

“I peed the bed…”

Damn it! Haru was usually good with not pissing himself, but he was just a pup after all. It happened.

“Alright,” Katsuki sighed with all the patience he’d been forced to develop since popping out his first pup. “It’s fine. I’ll clean it up. Go with Daddy to the bathroom.”

Opening one eye, he glanced up at Shouto who was already sitting up, wide awake. Katsuki wondered what it was like being such a damned morning lark.

“Come here, Haru,” Shouto said, lifting the little biohazard out of the nest.

Katsuki was left with Kei and the wetness behind him. Having pups never stopped being quite a bit gross.

“Mmgh…” Kei frowned in his sleep as Katsuki sat up, trying to get the pup to release the death grip he had on Katsuki’s soft shirt. Kei always seemed to want to hold onto Katsuki in some way or another. He wasn’t much different from his brother in that regard. It might’ve been easier had they both been betas, but it was what it was, and Katsuki wouldn’t want it any differently when it all came down to it. He could surprisingly tolerate their grossness as well.

He did not manage to make it out of the nest without Kei waking up, so he ended up having to clean up the nest one-handed while carrying his grumpy pup with the other.

“I’m sorry, Mommy…” he heard Haru’s voice, which sounded unusually small.

Glancing behind him, he saw his oldest son standing in the doorway, fiddling with his pyjama shirt, which was the only thing he had on now.

“I told you, it’s fine,” Katsuki said, being a bit more awake now, despite how tired he was. “You didn’t mean to do it, did you?”

Haru quickly shook his head.

“Well, there you go then. Come and I’ll get you some clean pyjama bottoms.”

“Pghh…” Kei grunted and Katsuki bounced him gently while walking over to the wardrobe with Haru.

After having gotten him something clean to wear, Katsuki glanced down at him, seeing him still looking glum.

Sighing, Katsuki sat down on his haunches with Kei.

“Come and give me a hug, you little rascal.”

Haru hesitated for only a moment before he wrapped his arms around Katsuki, squeezing him tightly.

“You know, I bet even Grandpa Enji wet the bed when he was little,” Katsuki whispered and Haru pulled back slightly, staring at him with wide eyes.

“He did?”

“Yeah, ask him next time we see him,” Katsuki smirked, already looking forward to seeing how the man would handle such a question.

“I love you, Mommy,” Haru mumbled, hugging Katsuki again.

“Mbrh…” Kei drooled, his pudgy face looking serious as he frowned at his brother in that grumpy way of chubby little pups.

“See, I told you Mommy wouldn’t be mad,” Shouto piped up, hovering in the doorway with a stupid smile on his face.

“Ow! Kei’s got my hair!” Haru suddenly wailed, trying to pull away from the fierce grip his little brother had on him.

“Stay still! You’ll pull your own hair out like that!” Katsuki hissed, frowning as deeply as Kei while trying to untangle his two brats from each other.

When he finally, with Shouto’s help, managed to get Kei to let go, and Haru was stood rubbing the top of his head with a deep scowl, he felt that wave of exhaustion wash over him again.

“Alright, what time is it?” he asked.

“It’s still nighttime,” Shouto answered and Katsuki thanked his lucky stars. They could go back to bed.

It took some time getting Kei to settle down again. Katsuki had to feed him and change him before they could snuggle down in the clean nest. Haru was immediately on him like the little octopus he was, being Katsuki’s personal heater, and Katsuki sighed contently, trying to drift off for a bit longer. He would give having a bit of a sleep-in another chance.

It felt as though he had just closed his eyes when Kei began to hiccup next to him, pulling on his shirt.

”Shh… I’m here,” Katsuki mumbled. His arm felt numb as he pulled his son closer, holding him gently. Purring, he hoped Kei would calm down again.

Haru sighed behind him and squeezed him tightly. Maybe it would work.

Kei was not having it though and kept grunting, flailing a chubby arm around, clearly not in the mood to go back to sleep. Haru had been somewhat easier when he’d been a fresh little pup. Kei was a fussy little brat though.

Opening a blurry eye, Katsuki lifted his head to see what time it was. It was early, too early, but it also wasn’t night anymore. Shit. He had no excuse then.

Glancing behind him, he wasn’t surprised to see that Shouto wasn’t there. Damned early riser…

His body felt as heavy as lead as he tried to sit up. It wasn’t easy with the way Haru was clinging to him, making a concerted effort to pull him back down again.

”Hey, it’s morning, kid,” Katsuki muttered, propping himself in his nest and taking Kei into his arms.

”Bha…” Kei stared up at him with that cross-eyed look of his as he tried to focus on Katsuki’s face. The little brat was lucky he was cute.

Aside from Haru’s little mishap, it had been quite the normal night and morning. Katsuki could barely remember a time when he’d gotten to sleep all he wanted. Haru definitely didn’t need to worry about getting another little brother. Katsuki wanted to eventually be able to sleep a whole night again.

”Good morning,” Shouto said, staring up from his tablet as Katsuki shuffled into the kitchen with Kei in his arms and Haru trudging along at his side, rubbing his eyes with one hand while holding onto Katsuki’s shirt with the other.

”I don’t know about ’good’,” Katsuki muttered, opening the fridge to start getting some breakfast ready.

Shouto didn’t argue, knowing that it was no use so early in the morning. He just got up to help with the breakfast. It was still hard for Katsuki to let Shouto touch anything food related. He hadn’t poisoned any of them yet, but Katsuki kept a watchful eye on him regardless.

It was only after they’d gotten something to eat that Katsuki began being able to hold his eyes open without a ton of effort.

”Anything in the news?” he asked Shouto who practically always managed to read the news on his tablet before breakfast.

”I don’t know. I haven’t read them yet,” Shouto answered, making Katsuki raise an eyebrow. Before he could ask anything else, he was distracted by Haru though.

”Mommy, when is my birthday?”

”You know the date of your birthday, Haru,” Katsuki told him, having to mentally shift gears.

”Yeah, but when is it?”

”You mean when’s your next birthday?"

”Yeah!”

”It’s still quite a way away.”

”Why do you want to know, Haru?” Shouto asked curiously.

”I wanna make a wish,” Haru stated with a sly look.

”What kind of wish?”

”Mommy made the nest bigger so Daddy can fit…”

”Yeah?” Katsuki mumbled with a sense of dread.

”For my birthday, I wish that Mommy make a nest for me and Mommy in my room. Then Daddy can be not lonely with Kei in the big nest.”

Katsuki cursed his past self. He should never have made Shouto take Kei while Katsuki took care of Haru alone when he had had a cold last time. Haru had never let it go, and it hadn’t even worked in hindering anyone else from being infected with his damned germs.

”Haru, we’re all a family,” Shouto began explaining, in that irritatingly rational voice of his, which was bound to not work. ”I love Mommy, and you, and Kei a lot. I would be sad if I could not sleep next to you. Though when you get older, you’ll want to sleep in your own room, but Mommy and I will always share the same bed because we love each other a lot and I’m his alpha and his he’s my omega.”

Katsuki felt like dunking his head on the table. Damned idiot!

”Then I’ll be Mommy’s alpha!” Haru immediately exclaimed. ”Mommy, you can be my omega! Then I can stay with Mommy forever and ever! I never want to sleep not next to Mommy!”

Katsuki gave Shouto a sour glare while bouncing Kei gently in his lap.

”Hah! You’re too late, kid,” he told his son. ”I can only have one alpha, and that’s your dad. You’re my pup though, and that’s something you’ll always be.”

Haru narrowed his eyes, trying to think of a counterargument. His red eyes were suddenly drawn to Katsuki’s neck, and he pointed at the scar etched there from Shouto’s teeth.

”Daddy said he bit you and that it made you his. I can bite you too! Kei can’t ’cause he don’t have any teeth.”

”Doesn’t have teeth,” Shouto corrected him, not fucking helping.

“It doesn’t work like that, Haru,” Katsuki muttered, trying to think of what to say next.

“Haru,” Shouto said in a serious tone of voice. “I told you that your mother and I decided to create a bond together. An alpha cannot just bite an omega. It is a very important decision which they have to make together. You must always respect the decisions of others, whether they are alphas, betas or omegas.”

Haru frowned slightly before looking up at Katsuki. “But Mommy, you love me. You love me the best. That means I can be your alpha, right?”

“There are different kinds of love, Haru,” Katsuki sighed. He had not signed up for such a conversation so early in the morning. Kei was also staring up at Katsuki, drool running down his cheek. Katsuki quickly wiped it off. His youngest son was challenging in his own right sometimes, but at least he couldn’t yet make a verbal mess like his brother.

“But… But… you said you love me… You… You…” Haru’s lower lip was starting to tremble, and Katsuki quickly spoke before Shouto could put his foot in it. He was alright in many ways, but Katsuki could never fully trust that he wouldn’t just pour oil on Haru’s fire sometimes.

“Of course I love you, you little brat! Don’t you ever doubt that! But I… I love your dad in a different way. In a way only grown-ups can. Only grown alpha’s can be with grown omegas, and it has to be with someone outside the family, okay? When you get older, you might find someone you like a lot, or maybe you won’t want to. Either way is fine, but I’ll always be your mom, and Daddy will always be your dad. You’ll always have Kei as your little brother.” Whether you want to or not, Katsuki added in the privacy of his own mind. “You and I have our own bond. A darned strong one! We don’t need any bites or stuff like that, because our bond is stronger than anything, you hear?!”

Haru’s frown slowly faded as he nodded slowly.

“Now, I’ve told you before. You can stay in my nest for as long as you want, but so can Daddy and Kei. You said that you don’t want to sleep alone, yeah? Well, neither do they. You don’t wanna be a meanie, do you?” Katsuki raised an eyebrow at his son, who looked down slightly while shaking his head.

Relaxing, Katsuki reached over to ruffle Haru’s red hair. Katsuki knew all about being a mean bastard. It was something he still regretted, and he would do his darndest not to let Haru become someone like that.

“You have plenty of time to think about what you want for your next birthday,” Katsuki murmured. “I bet you can think of something else. Something awesome. You’re my son after all!” He gave Haru a little grin and Haru sniffed a bit before grinning back.

Crisis averted.

Katsuki would never be able to fully understand the world according to alphas. It seemed fucking exhausting.

”Mbrh!” Kei gurgled, sticking out his pink little tongue.

”Shall we go to the park today?” Shouto asked and Haru shone up.

”Can I take my bike?”

”Yes, you can,” Shouto nodded and Haru was all smiles again.

It was a bit cloudy, but it was nice and warm outside as they later made their way over to the nearest park. Even though it wasn’t fully sunny, Katsuki made sure Kei had his little sunhat on. Strapped to Katsuki’s chest, the pup quite quickly fell asleep while they walked. The rocking motion was probably soothing. Katsuki felt a bit jealous in a sense. It’d be nice to just get to take a nap whenever.

Haru peddled around on his bike, though never straying too far. He was good in that way. There was one upside to him being an alpha, and that was that he always had to make sure he was near Katsuki. He could be more prone to going off on his own when he was alone with Shouto.

”You think he’ll ever leave the nest?” Katsuki muttered to his alpha, whose scar he bore. It had very much been a mutual decision, and that was part of the reason why Katsuki had allowed it.

”Not for some time,” Shouto shrugged. ”You enjoy having him close though.”

Katsuki couldn’t really argue with that.

His hand suddenly felt very warm as Shouto took it in his own, smiling as they strolled along. He could be such a doofus, but he was always so damned handsome like that.

”I’ve been thinking,” he said.

”About what?” Katsuki asked suspiciously.

”I’d like for us to go on a family vacation.”

”Hah?”

”Burnin was talking at work about going on vacation with her parents when she was young, and I thought it sounded nice. I’ve never done something like that.”

Katsuki had been about to protest. He was exhausted enough at it was, but that last sentence made him keep quiet. Of course, Shouto had never been taken on a vacation as a kid. He hadn’t had much of a childhood in the first place. He was always determined to give Haru and Kei everything he hadn’t had. It was something Katsuki found kind of… admirable.

”Where were you thinking then?” he ended up asking. ”Is that what you were looking at this morning?” It really had been unusual for Shouto not to have read the news.

”Yes,” Shouto confirmed. ”I was looking at the top destinations in the country for families with young pups.”

Had it been anyone else, Katsuki would’ve expected them to say an amusement park or something, but Shouto was steadfastly traditional when it came to some things.

”Nara seems nice,” Shouto said. ”It is a place filled with history. We can explore traditional crafts and there are several hiking trails. I think that Haru would find it really exciting to meet the deer there.”

”Nara, hm…” Katsuki mused. ”I’ve never been there.”

”Would you like to go?” Shouto asked him with an expectant expression.

Katsuki couldn’t refuse. Not when Shouto was looking like that. Katsuki didn’t much like to admit it, but there was always that part of him which was eager to please his alpha. He didn’t let it rule his life though. He wouldn’t allow that, but he supposed that being an omega could be complicated too.

That wasn’t why he nodded though. He nodded because he wanted to. He wanted to see his messy family happy.

”Mommy!” Haru exclaimed, peddling fast towards them. ”I wanna hold hands too, Mommy!”

”You can’t ride your bicycle and hold hands at the same time Haru,” Shouto told him.

”I can too!”

Katsuki rolled his eyes but ultimately smiled. Being tired was worth it he supposed. All three of his alphas were a pain in their own way, but they were his, and a bit of bedwetting, crying and stupidity wouldn’t change that.

He’d long thought he didn’t need anyone. He’d been determined to make it on his own, and he was convinced he still could should he try, but the difference was that he no longer wanted to. He’d told Haru the truth. The bonds he had with them were strong. The three of them were damned strong together.
