Mary now had a job at Async.
She saw Clark die a day ago. She ran away from something that copied Clark a day ago. And herself was broken a day ago.
She had to get the job at Async before they, well, you know, killed her. Mary had assumed that they would kill her, even though they never told her if they would.
Today she wouldn’t go into that place though. Today was her introduction to Async.
She was outside the building now. Some higher ups in Async would give her a tour of Async, then she would meet some people, then, well, she didn’t know if they’d allow her to go home or not.
She took a breath of fresh air before stepping inside.
The building looked corporate. Grey floor, white walls.. I mean, a place exploring a giant labyrinth that was supposed to be an office place probably would look corporate, she thought.
She went to the front desk. A woman in business attire would be sitting there.
“Yes?” she would ask. “I’m, uh, Mary. I came here for -” Mary would say before being cut off. “Mary Kline?” the woman would ask. “Uh, yes.” “Okay. Clyde and Maxwell will be here shortly.”
She would sit in a chair next to the front desk. Man, she thought. What have I gotten myself into? If I never went to that store, or Clark didn’t tie me up to a fucking chair, I wouldn’t be here.
Two men in lab coats came into the room. They would look at Mary. “Mary? We’re here to give you the tour of Async. My name’s Maxwell, by the way. He’s Clyde.” He gestured over to the other man.
Mary would nod and get up. They would start walking out of the room, toward a hallway.
Mary took a deep breath and followed them.
