Work Text:
“I have to go.” Tim says. “I’m sorry Luce.” Lucy pouts a little as he pulls away.
“Why?”
“Because I have to go to work. Grey is going a little crazy.” Tim says and even though he doesn’t want to pull away even more. He does—he presses a kiss to her forehead and then rolls out of bed.
“I mean why do I have a day off? I need to work too.” Lucy says. Tim lets out a sigh, they have both been working nonstop since they got kidnapped and rescued. It was by no means easy or even healthy at that.
But they were never apart, Tim went as far as to make sure Lucy could ride with him.
Not healthy.
But Tim needed her right next to him. He needed to always make sure she was okay. But it had gotten to the point where Grey had to tell Lucy to take a day off. The next day it would be Tim.
He didn’t like it.
He didn’t like it at all.
“I know baby.” He says leaning down to kiss her. “We can do this.” Lucy nods but she looks doubtful.
“We can do this.” She repeats but her voice falters. Tim gives her hand a squeeze before he starts to walk away.
They can do this.
They couldn’t be co-dependent forever. They had to be apart at some point.
He pauses at the door and looks back at her. “I love you.” He says. She smiles at him.
“I love you too.”

It’s not a terrible day, Tim does his business and tries not to pick up his phone to call Lucy.
(He is tempted but he resists).
He gets busy and soon he is focused on work. But he can’t help but think about all those hours—days—they were separated and how it felt like a punch to the gut. How we he wanted her right by his side.
He fought to get to her, and with a few bruises and a few broken ribs he did. It turned out that she also fought to get to him.
“I annoyed them with all my talking.” She had told him later. “I think I was driving them insane.”
“I know how that is.” He had said jokingly. Lucy had shoved his shoulder and he winced.
“Sorry.”
“No. I deserved that.” He had said and he cracked a smile.
He was just grateful they were still able to joke.
They were still healing, but they were healing together.
He just wishes she were here.
Right here.
Right now.
He glances at his watch, he doesn’t want to touch his phone. Just a few more hours.
Just a few more hours.

Lucy doesn’t like being away from Tim, and really she has never liked it. It wasn’t just being separated from him not knowing if he was hurt or not. She never liked being away from while she was undercover.
The fact she saw him for a few minutes during this last one made her relax a little. It’s not that she has to be near him. She is pretty independent and can do things on her own. She knows that. Tim knows that.
(She is the one that found him first.)
But still—
She prefers him here with him. She looks at her phone, and taps the screen. The picture flashes and she smiles a little. It’s a selfie of them. Happy. Carefree. Unaware of the horrors ahead. She takes a deep breath.
Tim would be home soon, and everything would be okay.
Everything would be okay.

Lucy hears the door open and she jumps up. She slowly walks towards it and stops when she sees Tim kicking off his shoes. He hasn’t looked up yet, so she just admires him from afar.
He finally does and a smile lights up his face as soon as he sees her.
“Hi.” She says and walks straight into his arms. He wraps her in a tight hug, and she relaxes into his touch. “How was your day?”
Tim doesn’t answer for a few minutes and maybe he’s going over what to say. “It’s better now.” He says.
“Yeah?”
“It was fine. I kept busy but it’s better when you are there.” He says and pushes some hair out of her face. “How was yours?”
“Basically the same.” She says. She pulls him down for a kiss. “I’m glad you are home.”
“Me too.” Tim says. “It’s my turn tomorrow.” Lucy nods and takes his hand leading him to the living room.
They both sit down on the couch and Tim wraps his arm around her shoulders. She leans into him, and rests her head on his chest.
She feels like she is safe, in his arms. They could do things separately, she knows they can. They are both strong and they both have been through hell.
But they would get through it together.
It was better when they were together.
Always together.
It would be okay.
