Summary
Draco Malfoy has always known exactly what sort of person he is supposed to become. Christine Van Doren is the first person rude enough to make him wonder whether he really wants to.
Christine should be exactly the sort of Slytherin Draco respects: an old name, plenty of ambition, a temper, and a talent for cruelty when sufficiently provoked. Unfortunately, she also seems to think most of what he has been taught is complete bollocks — and has an unnerving habit of knowing things she was never told.
What begins as mutual dislike slowly becomes something neither of them is particularly equipped to understand, just as the world outside Hogwarts begins demanding that Draco become exactly the person everyone has always expected him to be. Changing your mind is one thing; choosing differently when it matters is another.
