Another Night

Summary:

Izuku sighed again, rubbing his temple as he lowered the pen. He glanced at the blonde who now fully inside and shutting the window behind him. “Have you ever considered- I don't know- using the key I gave you?” Izuku sarcastically asked as the blonde took off his boots. “Nah.” Kacchan smirked as he picked up his bag, pulling his gloves off as he walked to the laundry room.

Or Bakugou pays Deku a visit unannounced.

Work Text:

Izuku sat on his living room couch, papers strewn across the coffee table, and lightly tugged his hair out of frustration. He lifted his glasses for a moment, rubbing his aching eyes before marking another incorrect answer on the student's paper. This particular student usually did well; he made a mental note to check in with them. Izuku moved to start grading the next paper when a loud thud came from his bedroom. He jumped up, rushing to the room with a pen in place of a weapon. He swung the door open, sighing as he spotted the intruder.

Bakugou stood, halfway through the window; his bag was already inside on the floor. He was still in his hero costume with dirt, debris, and soot covering him. He must have just finished a mission, not even bothering to stop by his agency to rinse off before coming to bother the exhausted teacher.

Izuku shook his head as he followed, watching as Bakugou grabbed a towel and rag that Izuku had washed earlier. “At least use the front door.” Izuku huffed. “Where’s the fun in that?” Bakugou replied smugly. “One of these days I could mistake you for a real intruder and hurt you!” Izuku folded his arms to emphasize his annoyance. Bakugou turned to face him and snorted. It’s not that Izuku couldn’t hurt him, he very much could, it was just the current sight that had the blonde suppressing his laugh. Izuku wore his reading glasses, lenses perpetually smudged despite Bakugou constantly reminding him to clean them, hair looking like he was just in a storm, a shirt with the words ‘comfy shirt’ on it, and pajama pants with All Might’s face plastered all over. To top it all off, the nerd was pouting. It was impossible to take him seriously when he looked this cute. Bakugou slid past him chuckling as he went to shower.

Izuku went ahead and ordered food, not even bothering to check the fridge since he hadn’t gone grocery shopping in a while. That plus he wasn’t exactly known for his homecooked meals; he could make simple curry, and that was about it. When Bakugou got out, he smelt less like ash and more like vanilla and mint. His skin feeling soft now that grime no longer covered it. The food was already there and was even plated. Izuku scrolled through an article on his phone. He was swamped with grading earlier, so he used this as a chance to catch up. Bakugou sat across from him, roughly drying his hair with the towel around his neck. Bakugou grabbed his chopsticks, ready to start eating when he heard Izuku gasp. “A building fell on you!?”

So, he didn’t know, Bakugou wondered why his phone wasn’t being blown up with a million messages from the overly anxious man or why said man hadn’t hounded him with questions the moment he entered the house. Bakugou let out a ‘tsk’ as he glanced over at the man who was already getting up to check for any injuries. “I’m fine nerd.” He huffed out, annoyed as the chopsticks slipped out of his hand. “Right,” Izuku eyed the way the blonde’s hand shook ever so slightly, struggling to hold the chopsticks the same way he used to after the war. “You’re totally fine.” Izuku said sarcastically as he went back to his seat, unable to inspect the other man due to a lack of cooperation. Izuku gasped again, softer this time, as if he realized something. “That’s why his shower took longer today.” He muttered under his breath, accidentally saying his thoughts out loud, unfortunately for him the other man heard it. “The hell? Why do you know how long my showers are? You timing me, weirdo?” Bakugou chuckled at the image of Izuku, ear pressed up against the bathroom door, timing him in the shower. Izuku flushed, hands flailing as he tried to explain himself. “It’s not like that! You’re over here so often it’s something I couldn’t help but notice!” “Yeah right, you perv.” Bakugou cackled as Izuku became more frantic in his excuses, not realizing he was making things worse. It continued like this before Bakugou finally took pity on the man and changed topics so they could peacefully finish dinner.

With dinner finished, the green haired man returned to grading papers on the couch. Only making his presence known with an occasional sigh of disappointment and the scratching of his pen. The blonde, much to the dismay of the host, washed the dishes and sat back at the table ‘just because.’ Izuku knew better, Bakugou was probably too injured to go to bed straight away and was just buying time. So, when Izuku finished grading, he quickly grabbed the first aid kit before the blonde realized what he was up to.

Kacchan sat in a dining chair, attempting to hide the way he winced with every slight movement. When the nerd came back, he realized he hadn’t been subtle. He sighed as Izuku sat next to him. He placed the first aid kit on the table as he began inspecting Bakugou for any injuries. It was quick, Bakugou was too tired to be fussy and just let Izuku work. Izuku quickly finished his attempt at patching the other man up, sitting back and smiling. Bakugou flexed his now bandaged hand; it wasn’t as good as recovery girl or any other medical professional, but it took some of the pain away and that was good enough.

“Feel better?” Izuku asked, big green eyes staring as he waited for the other man to respond. He got a simple grunt in place of a yes. There were still some lingering aches but nothing serious. Bakugou, feeling his eyes starting to droop, stood and silently made his way to the bedroom. “Ah- wait up!” Izuku hurriedly turned off the lights, leaving the scattered papers on the coffee table as a problem for his future self, and followed after Bakugou.

They laid in Izuku’s bed, a habit they’d picked up when Katsuki’s sleepovers started and never addressed, though it’s not as if either of them minded. Bakugou laid on his back, staring at the ceiling. Izuku laid on his side, staring at the blonde. Even with the darkness, Bakugou could tell the other man’s lips were shaking as though he was restraining himself from speaking. It was annoying, he would probably stay up all night if Bakugou never let him say what’s on his mind. “Spit it out,” The blonde turned his head to face Izuku. “What’s go you all jittery?” Izuku chewed on his bottom lip for a moment before talking. “You should take the day off tomorrow-” Bakugou scoffed, sitting up to turn on the lamp on the bedside table. “-You had a building fall on you! A whole building, Kacchan!” Izuku pushed up so that he rested on his elbows. “You should get yourself properly checked out- by someone with proper medical experience and not just my lousy first aid skills- and when you get cleared, you get to gloat about how silly I was being for overreacting.”

Bakugou grumbled, glaring at the man who had accidentally left his glasses on. He reached over, pulling the glasses off. “I said I’m fine, why the hell should I-” A scarred hand grabbed his wrist, his own hand looked embarrassingly dainty in comparison. “Please? I just want to make sure my Kacchan is all right.” That’s it. The affectionate tone combined with a look that could make the devil crumble. It’s what gets Bakugou to finally cave. “Fine.” He huffed, pulling his hand away, and placing the glasses on the side table. He switched off the light before laying back down. “Now let’s go to bed, I’m tired, nerd.” Izuku settled back in the sheets, laying a little closer than usual with a smile that Bakugou could picture clearly from memory alone.

In the morning Izuku would rush to pack up his papers as he got ready for work, leaving a note by the coffee pot about Bakugou’s promise. Later, the blonde made sure he called Izuku when he knew the other man was on his lunch break to smugly tell him how healthy the doctor said he was for a guy almost flattened by rubble the day before. Kacchan, still on a high from the gloating, was even nice enough to get groceries for the teacher's barren fridge, make dinner, and use his key when entering the house.
