Work Text:

They invited him to hang out with them, but Azure didn't realize that it was a date until the last minute, so he quickly gathered some sunflowers from a nearby field and headed to the meeting point. He hoped they would appreciate them, though he wasn't sure what kind of flowers witches favored. Hopefully, they wouldn't mind sunflowers. It didn't take him long to reach the extensive tulip field, a sprawling sea of vibrant colors stretching to the horizon. They chose a picturesque spot for the picnic—a lush patch of grass surrounded by blooming flowers, with a gentle breeze rustling through the leaves. In the distance, he saw them standing amidst the tulips, their short, luminous hair flowing freely in the wind, shimmering under the bright sunlight. He couldn't look away, even if he tried. He noticed the delicious aroma of the food and the vibrant display of picnic treats, but he was far more captivated by the person preparing the feast. They only realized their voice was calling out to him when a hand waved softly in front of his face. “Azure, are you alright? You look like you’re in a trance,” they asked with gentle concern. Azure sheepishly scratched his head, blushing. “My apologies, dear. I was too distracted by your radiant presence; I couldn't help but admire your natural beauty.” The witch quickly covered their face with their wide-brimmed hat, blushing. “Can you please stop being so forward?!” It was amusing to see the confident witch flustered. Azure giggled softly. “Sorry, I just can't help it—you're too adorable not to tease!” The witch grumbled affectionately as they took Azure’s hand and led him toward the picnic basket. It was laid out on a soft, sky-blue blanket decorated with tiny shimmering stars. The spread included pastries of various shapes and flavors that the Oni had never seen before, along with a steaming pot of fragrant tea. Just as they were about to settle down to enjoy their outing, a sudden flash of blinding lightning illuminated the sky, followed by a booming roll of thunder that echoed across the land. Dark clouds rapidly gathered, and rain began pouring down in heavy sheets. Without hesitation, the pair quickly gathered their belongings and hurried into Azure’s nearby cave for shelter. Inside, they carefully placed the soaked items into a dry corner. Howls and cries of the storm’s fury echoed through the ruins of the landscape, while rain pounded relentlessly on the rocky surface. Watching the tempest rage outside, Azure wrapped his arms around the shivering witch, who was visibly cold and drenched. Unfortunately, they weren't immune to the cold weather. Noticing that the sunflowers had been soaked through, Azure felt a pang of disappointment but knew that their partner’s comfort was more important. He gently took the trembling witch’s hand and guided them toward his bed. “I brought you some sunflowers. Sorry if they’re not your favorite,” Azure murmured. The witch sneezed before shaking their head with a faint smile. “I-I like sunflowers. They’re not my favorite, but I like them,” they replied softly. Azure carefully laid them on the bed’s edge before leaving to prepare hot tea for both of them, returning shortly with a steaming kettle and two cups. He also brought a cozy blanket, which he gently draped around the two of them. Handing one cup to the witch with cautious care, he then wrapped the blanket snugly around both of them. “I'm sorry this wasn't the perfect outing I had hoped for. I wanted everything to be perfect, and I-” they began, but was silenced by a tender, lingering kiss. Their eyes widened in surprise before Azure gently pulled away, planting a soft kiss on their forehead. The witch felt their heart flutter wildly, overwhelmed by the deep affection. “I did enjoy today despite the rain. I’m happy to be here with you all day long,” the Oni chuckled warmly. Despite the setbacks, the day hadn’t been ruined; instead, they shared the simple joy of each other’s company, savoring tea and love amid the stormy night.
