Whatever is happening is bigger than either of you. There are powers at play you cannot see, hands moving pieces across a board you were never meant to understand. Maybe the two of you are only pawns. Maybe Caleb has known that longer than you have. You still wish he would tell you more. You wish he would trust you with the truths he keeps locked inside. You wish he would let you stand beside him instead of trying to place himself between you and the rest of the universe. But if he is truly willing to live in a world where you hate him, if he would rather bear that than drag you into whatever this is, then some part of you has to believe he is doing it for you.
