Ruin the Friendship

Summary:

Afraid to ruin their friendship, Sunghoon sets his feelings for Sunoo aside...

Until he can't anymore.

Notes:

From Sunghoon's perspective!

As expected, Jay is rich and down bad for Jungwon. Niki is his typical single self, and Heejake isn't as secretive as they think. Sunsun... you'll have to see ;)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Where We Began

Chapter Text

Sunghoon pushed Jay’s large front door open and allowed Sunoo to slide past him into the large foyer. They walked forward past the staircase into the kitchen. The pair had arrived an hour late to their friend’s house and found the other five boys already sitting down and enjoying lunch at the dining room table.

Niki broke the silence, “What took you guys so long? Too busy making out to hang out with your poor friends?”

“Ew, Niki.”

“You’re disgusting.”

The two said at the same time.

“Relax, guys, it’s just a joke.”

Sunghoon didn’t understand why comments like these made him so flustered. Pft, kissing my best friend. That would totally be gross.

“Anyway,” Jungwon began from his spot at the large table, “you guys up to go see a movie tonight?”

Jay lightly smacked the back of his head as he walked past him, and returned his empty plate to the sink. “I literally have a movie room you idiot.” Jungwon pouted in response, causing Jay to immediately walk back to him and drape his arms over the younger’s shoulders. “Sorry, sorry. What were you wanting to see?”

“Oh my gosh, Jay. You are such a simp,” Niki groaned.

“What does that even mean?”

Ignoring the question, Niki continued. “I think we should see something scary.”

Jungwon’s eyes beamed with excitement, “That’s what I was thinking too. Maybe we could see the new Scream movie?”

“I heard that it’s actually scary this time,” Heeseung chipped in from the other side of the table.

“Well that is the point of horror movies, hyung,” Niki said with a scoff.

“Okay, Scream it is, tonight at 10. Don’t be late.”

Sunoo raised an eyebrow, “Jungwon we’ll all still be here at 10…”

“Oh, whatever,” he rolled his eyes.

After getting popcorn and drinks, the boys took their seats just in time for the thriller to start. Jay, as expected, took a seat next to Jungwon, on the other side of Jungwon sat Heeseung, then Jake, then Niki. Before Sunoo could plop down next to the youngest, Sunghoon scooted past him and stole the seat. Sunoo playfully rolled his eyes and hit the older. In response, he pinched the younger’s nose bridge and said,

“Don’t act like you didn’t want to sit next to me, Sunoo-ah.”

As the credits scene rolled, Sunghoon woke up to an also sleeping Sunoo resting on his shoulder. Without thinking, he took this as a chance to run his fingers through the younger’s blonde hair. He inhaled the peach scent as he stroked his locks. Sunoo blinked his eyes open and looked up at the latter.

“Sorry, hyung. Who would’ve known a horror film could be so boring?”

He chuckled and nodded in agreement. “I know it’s late, but maybe when we get home we could watch that other movie you’ve been wanting to see. We could always just sleep in the basement.”

Sunoo couldn’t help but blush at the older’s offer.

Shit. That might have been too much.

“The Sound of Music it is then! Thank you Sunghoonie Hyung, I actually like you when you treat me well.”

Now it was Sunghoon’s turn to blush.

Gosh, I love that nickname.

From the moment they got back to Jay’s, Sunoo literally ran to the basement and turned the movie on. After a few teasing comments from his friends, he went downstairs to join the boy. As Sunghoon had thought, the movie was extremely boring. But something about having Sunoo curled into his side made it feel like the best movie he’d ever seen.

“I’m kind of surprised you haven’t fallen asleep yet,” Sunoo’s words jolted him out of his daydream.

Sunghoon looked down at him. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

“You don’t have to pretend, I know you hate these kinds of films.” The fox eyes that stared back up at him gave him a quick chill.

Sunghoon laughed and placed his face in the latter’s hair. His nose took in the peachy shampoo as he drifted off.

“Hyung!” Sunoo whisper-yelled. “You’re smushing me!” His words were clouded with laughter as he did his best to push the older’s tired body off of his own. At some point throughout the ten minutes Sunghoon was actually asleep, he'd tipped over towards the blonde. His full weight was over Sunoo, now.

Sunghoon lifted his body with a slight embarrassment plastering his face. “Sorry, yah. I really didn’t mean to fall asleep.”

“It’s okay that you feel asleep, but I’d prefer if you didn’t do that on top of me,” he giggled.

Shock spread throughout his body as Sunoo shifted them so they’d be laying face-to-face on Jay’s large movie room couch. Their heads were inches apart, and Sunoo’s half tucked knees slightly pressed into his thighs. The projector displayed a purple home screen that reflected onto Sunoo’s skin.

He looks pretty. No, Sunghoon. He’s a boy. Boys don’t ‘look pretty’.

But maybe, just maybe, Kim Sunoo can be an exception to that. Fuck.

Sunghoon’s breath hitched when he felt the other tuck his head into his chest. “Goodnight, Sunghoonie.”

He played it off with a murmur, “Being tired is no excuse to drop your manners, Mr. Kim. I’m still your hyung no matter how late it is.”

“It’s 3 a.m., hyung. It’s morning,” Sunoo laughed and pushed his head further into the older’s chest. Sunghoon couldn't help but wrap his arm around the younger, pulling him impossibly closer. He felt every breath Sunoo took, and prayed his heart didn't beat too fast.

The friend group always spent the week of Fall Break at Jay’s house. Since the 5th grade they’d have movie marathons, eat an overwhelming amount of ice cream, and a recent addition: get absolutely plastered.

Now don’t get the boys wrong, they thought drinking was dumb. But since Sophomore year, they decided that it would be nice to make some stupid decisions every now and then. Jay’s enormous house was perfect for parties, but none of them saw any point in hosting one. In the end, it would just end with broken glass and cleaning up red solo cups for days. They were fortunate enough for Jay to have utterly oblivious parents who didn’t raise any suspicion whenever Jay started asking for this week to be ‘just us boys’.

Between Heeseung’s fake ID and his ‘undeniable charm’, getting a more-than-needed amount of alcohol was quite easy.

Throughout the week they’d accomplished nothing and everything at the same time. Monday- theme park. Tuesday and Wednesday- nothing. Thursday- nothing again. Friday- also nothing.

Now Saturday was another story. Heeseung took Jake to the liquor store around 11, and suspiciously returned at 5. “First six stores didn’t work,” they’d said.

Yeah, and you guys turning your location off for the last four hours wasn’t weird at all.

About two hours into their drinking games, the slurred speech began.

“Hyung, I dare you to take another three shots!” Niki, blind to how loud he was being, yelled.

“Aw, Niki, I seriously don’t think I can,” Sunoo whined back.

After a non-stop five minute bicker, Sunoo took the shots. Then three more. If his prior condition wasn't alarming enough, his current state would send his parents into a coma if they knew.

Jay and Jungwon had disappeared into his bedroom about 30 minutes ago, and despite being fully stocked up, Heeseung and Jake went out to the garage to, “quickly grab some more drinks.”

Niki had just recently found a guest bedroom and passed out, leaving Sunghoon and Sunoo alone in the living room.

Sunoo had been long past the stage of normal speech, and the other was doing his best to stay awake. Sunoo played with his back flat on the couch, and the other sat in a chair across the room, barely conscious. Sunoo’s mopy voice brought the dark haired boy out of his dazed condition.

“Sunghoonie hyung?”

“Mhm?”

“Please come lay with me. My head hurts.”

Without a word, Sunghoon pulled his drowsy body towards the sulking boy, bringing two waters from the mini fridge with him.

After convincing a very out-of-it Sunoo to drink one, he leaned back in his seat and pulled Sunoo’s head onto his lap, stroking his bleached hair once more. Sunoo looked up at him for a moment with those stunning eyes, then slowly blinked them shut.

You're gonna get me in big trouble someday if you keep this up, Kim Sunoo.
