The Blue Blur and his boyfriend, the Ultimate Life Form, were doing absolutely nothing interesting. The previous night, they binged all Godzilla movies and went to bed, completely normal stuff.
Now? They were lazing around, or more specific, Sonic was. Shadow had boldly claimed that he was the “dominant and productive” one. So Sonic held him to that until he got bored of that.
Besides- not like Shadow was going to let him actually leave after he got hurt by Eggman yesterday (which mind you was a once in a blue moon thing! “Come on! I’m not that weak!” he protested).
So, aimlessly he lays on their couch with his legs crossed over each other and his phone in hand, scrolling without a thought. Shadow was in the other room, cleaning the entire house from top to bottom while munching on coffee beans.
A knock at the door makes both hedgehogs freeze dead in their tracks. Sonic leaps to his feet before Shadow can process it and belts out, “I got it!”.
Shadow runs up behind him but Sonic reaches the door first and swings it open, revealing two smiling rabbits and their pet Chao beaming at them Sonic blinks rapidly a few times before grinning. “Cream! Vanilla! Cheese! Hello!” he exclaims, ruffling the young girl’s hair.
“Hello, Mr.Sonic and you too Mr.Shadow!” Cream chirps softly, leaning into Sonic’s gentle touch.
“To what do we owe the pleasure?” Shadow asks, stepping around Sonic and standing beside him.
“I’m sorry to spring this on you two so suddenly but can you do me the favor of watching Cream for a while? I had a date with Vector that got moved to the last minute and her usual baby sitter couldn’t make it,” Vanilla explains, clearly looking terrible about shoving her child onto the two.
“Oh it’s not a problem at all, Ms.Vanillia, we love Cream and you’re one of our friends. We’ll be more than happy to help you and her out!” Sonic declares, which Shadow nods along with.
Vanilla takes Sonic and Shadow’s hands into her own and gives them a soft squeeze. “Thank you so much. I promise I am truly grateful. I’ll be back around 7 tonight. If she needs a nap or gets hungry Shadow knows what to do,” she says before leaving.
As her mother leaves, Cream and Cheese looks patiently at Sonic and Shadow, waiting to be let inside. Sonic steps to the side, allowing the duo to enter and after everyone does he closes the door behind him.
Cream peers up at them thoughtfully with Cheese sitting on her head. “So what do you want to do, Cream?” Sonic asks, kneeling to her eye level with her.
“Can we play a game?” She asserts in response.
“Of course! Any ideas?” Sonic continues.
“Do you have Just Dance?” Cream asks which Cheese chirps in agreement.
Sonic’s grin expands as he throws up a thumbs up. “Boy do I! I gotta, it’s Tails’ favorite,” he chuckles.
“Oh Gaia,” Shadow mutters under his breath. “If you’re going to do this I want no part in that ungodly abomination. I’m going back to cleaning.”.
Cream glances at Shadow, a look of sadness casting over her face. Sonic notices, and decides to do that one thing he does best. Annoy Shadow.
With a dramatic flare, he drops to the ground. “Oh no, it appears that my injury from yesterday is acting up, looks like I cannot play with poor Cream,” he fakes.
Shadow stops dead in his tracks and glares at him. “Liar. You could move just fine a moment ago,” Shadow points out sharply.
Cream takes the hint and runs towards Sonic. “Oh no! Mr.Sonic are you okay? You seem really hurt!” She acts.
Shadow crosses his arms over his chest and sighs. “Fine, I’ll play. Will you stop embarrassing me?” The ebony hedgehog announces.
Sonic sits upright instantly and snaps his fingers casually. “You bet, you tsundere!”.
Shadow huffs with annoyance. He walks past Sonic and Cream and towards the Nintendo Switch which was connected to the TV in front of the couch. He inserts the game and throws two pairs of joycons over to the Blue blur and young rabbit.
“Hey, Cream, you’re going to love Shadow’s dance moves. He’s better than me,” Sonic teases, which makes Shadow blush but in response, the Ultimate Life form throws his own joycons at Sonic’s head.
“If you are going to be like that, then I refuse to put myself in this embarrassing situation,” Shadow determines.
“C’mon, Shads, do it for Cream. She’s 6 and she needs a good role model from her dear uncle Shadow,” Sonic replies.
Sonic extends Shadow’s joycons out to him which the ebony one reluctantly accepts. “Fine…” he whispers.
Cream smiles and Shadow’s heart melts at the sight. So precious and sweet, the perfect child he wishes he could have. He ignores that thought and selects a song from the catalog. “If I’m doing this I’m choosing the song,” he says.
The song he chooses is "Tell Your World”, a Hatsune Miku song.
Sonic tries his absolute hardest to not break down laughing, because Shadow was clearly embarrassed by everything including his choice. Miku fan Shadow! So cute hahahaha. He thinks.
Flawlessly, the three of them complete the song, Sonic and Shadow somehow tying and Cream beating them both. “This is rigged! I clearly beat Shadow,” Sonic states.
“What?! I clearly won!” Shadow discloses.
“Nuh uh!”.
“Yes I did!”.
“Nope~”.
“But you two tied?” Cream buts in.
“Yea because the game is rigged!” Sonic repeats.
“No- you’re just not good enough to beat me!” Shadow defends himself.
“Shadow we both lost to a 6 year old!” Sonic proclaims.
Shadow finally looks at the highest score… Topping everyone’s. Cream just sits there, smiling happily like she didn’t just kick the two hedgehog’s butts.
“Wow! Way to go Cream!” Sonic praises, pulling her into a hug which makes her laugh.
As Shadow watches this, his eyes soften. He’d make a great parent… He leans down himself and joins them, making both Sonic and Cream surprised but nonetheless ecstatic.
When they finally pull away Sonic looks and Shadow and nods a silent thank you, to which Shadow avoids all together, his pride not allowing him to be seen so vulnerable for long.
“So, what now, Creams?” The blue hero asks the kid.
“Do you have ingredients for baking?” Cream requests.
Sonic nods. “We do,”.
“Can I make you guys some apple pie? It’s my best recipe,” Cream asserts.
“Of course you can, but we’re gonna have to watch you to make sure you stay safe alright?” Sonic affirms.
Cream nods vigorously and trods to the kitchen. With her little legs, she attempts to grab the ingredients from the cabinets which Shadow reaches up and grabs down for her.
She practically becomes a ball of energy as she runs from place to place, mixing ingredients and setting timers on the oven. Cheese helps any way he can, grabbing ingredients and putting them in front of Cream as she needs them.
Soon, she pours her mixture into the right pan and grabs the oven mitts . She inserts the pan into the oven and closes it, watching as the countdown begins to drop as the delicious apple pie begins to bake.
“Wow, Cream! You’re so awesome!” Sonic pronounces and Cream would be lying if she said she didn’t secretly absolutely love the praise the hero was giving her.
She chuckles happily and Cheese does too. When the over timer dings, she removes the apple pie from it and sets it on the counter to cool. Shadow nods approvingly and watches happily at Sonic’s bliss at doing everything he can to make sure Cream feels loved and supported.
Then, the small rabbit drops the bombshell that makes both of them go rigid. “Mr.Sonic. Mr.Shadow. I love you two. I hope you two stay together forever and get married. You two are like my uncles, I adore you both.”.
Sonic and Shadow exchange glances, a blush creeping on both of their muzzles before they turn away from each other. “Maybe one day, Cream. I really hope that too,” Shadow expresses.
Sonic looks back over to Shadow kindly. “Oh Shads…”.
Timidly, Shadow approaches Sonic and pulls him to his chest and kisses his forehead. “I really really do love you. Mark my words, Sonic the Hedgehog, one day I will marry you,” Shadow resolves.
Sonic stays completely still, his face turning absolutely red. “Shadow!!” he yelps.
But despite that, Cream looks… really happy. So Sonic relents and kisses Shadow back. “Yea yea, I love you too, babe,”.
The little rabbit grins cheekily and moves the pie to the table. “So, it’s done cooling. Should we eat now?” Cream asks.
Sonic nods. “Of course, Cream,”.
So, the group of four eat the pie and enjoy light conversation. Soon after, Cream falls asleep in between Sonic and Shadow until the time when Vanilla finally comes back to pick her up…
