Work Text:
Jonah has a point.
He also has Sean's attention like he was never supposed to.
Sean's known he was bi for a while.
Jonah's straight, and he knows it, but there's something about their conversation about St. Patrick's Day that has him wondering, a lot.
Because tradition is important, and St. Patrick's Day was something his mom loved to celebrate.
But he also thinks he might love Jonah, and he needs to talk to his dad before he loses his mind…
"Hey, Dad," Sean's voice shakes into silence when he sees that tattoo.
He knows those people.
"Sean? Are you okay?" Jonah's voice is far away when it reaches him.
"Son, what are you doing here? I thought you were on patrol," Danny's voice holds regret, and Sean knows he would've been told later just from the way it warps around the words.
Sean looks at his dad and asks, "Are they back?"
"Not for me, or you, or Jack," replies Danny quickly, understanding the question better than anyone in the room.
"You can't let them shatter another family, Dad," Sean breathes the words, forgetting where they are, forgetting the hold he's had on his mom's death as he looks at him.
"I won't, Sean," replies Danny softly as he approaches, tugging his son into a harsh hug that lasts until a steady breath escapes.
"Sean? What's— Who is this, Lena?" Jonah's voice brings Sean back enough to have him turning towards his best friend, his partner.
"Jonah, let me— I'll explain," Sean's voice shakes, but he needs to bring Jonah in on this.
He knows his dad has told Lena when he sees the way she's holding Jonah back, giving them space.
"When you're ready," replies Jonah seriously as he moves his sister's arm and steps forward, tugging Sean in as soon as Danny releases him.
"My mom," breathes Sean hesitantly as he tucks his head against Jonah's shoulder. "Those guys, not him specifically, but that cartel, they put a hit out on her, for revenge, against my dad."
"They took her from you," breathes Jonah in a raw voice. "Oh, Sean."
Sean knew he'd understand.
"We're going to handle this, and we'll tell you all about it," Danny's voice is filled with certainty, one that Sean's known his whole life.
A full promise that can't be denied.
His dad will bring these guys down again.
"And Sean won't leave my side, not for a single minute," Jonah says it with conviction, and Sean knows he doesn't mean it like that, but it makes his heart sing anyway. "He's my partner."
"Take care of each other, and we'll let you know when it's over," Lena's voice is gentle, filled with understanding and sorrow.
Sean hates the timing, but at least he has his partner.
He'll be just fine, though now he really can't wait for St. Patrick's Day to be over.
