Work Text:
Tamaki doesn't think much about it when he waves at Katsuki while leaving the agency.
He usually does this.
It's typical.
Except…
Today's been a day, and it must show.
Because his phone is overloaded with notifications by the time he walks into their condo and drops on the couch after the most horrific night patrol in months.
He lost six civilians, and almost lost two villains. Catching those villains doesn't change the lives lost or the new scars added to his skin's collection though.
His eyes lock on the message from Katsuki.
KitKat: Are you okay? You seemed almost dazed. Did you get hit with a quirk?
Tamaki: I didn't get hit with a quirk. Ailee cleared me of that… Twice.
KitKat: Why was she worried enough to have to clear you twice?
Tamaki: I had two different encounters where quirks were used, but she said I was clear. I'm supposed to meet her ahead of my shift tonight to check again after the interrogations.
KitKat: You're supposed to be off today, Maki.
Tamaki: I was supposed to be, yeah. But someone has to cover Momo after her quirk incident, and everyone that can are running day patrols.
Tamaki: I offered to take it because I don't have anything to do, and it gives me the next two days off instead.
KitKat: I was going to make dinner, Maki.
Tamaki: But you're supposed to patrol until midnight.
KitKat: Deku's covering after his office hours end at five.
Tamaki: Oh… Sorry Kat.
KitKat: Don't stress, I've got this. You're not working tonight's shift.
Tamaki: I already offered and got my name put in, Kat. It'd take too long to get it changed.
KitKat: I'll figure it out, Maki.
KitKat: We've missed each other all week, and I will be damned if I don't get to have dinner with my boyfriend tonight after planning for it since Tuesday.
Tamaki: You know what? You're right. Give me ten, and I can get it sorted. Let me make a call.
KitKat: I can do it, Maki. I'm out here, I can figure it out.
Tamaki: I have someone who owes me. I can swing this without screwing up my next two days off. If we had to call someone in, I'd have to patrol with Momo tomorrow before having the next day off. If I can pull this hero in, I can have tomorrow and the next day off.
KitKat: Swing it, Maki.
Tamaki: See you for dinner, Kat.
Tamaki makes his call, gets everything sorted, adjusts for a half patrol during Katsuki's patrol hours tomorrow just to make sure he can get the same day off instead, then he waits.
Katsuki was right.
They've gone too long without dinner together, and while the little lunch time they've spent together has been amazing, Tamaki wants this night. He can keep Katsuki in his bed, enjoy his touch, his love, without the public or their friends in their faces.
They need this.
