“Too much concealer.” Lightbrush muttered under her breath as she was practically huddled on top of her new vanity. It was a recent addition to her hotel room, thanks to the help of Painty! Who was sitting on her bed on the opposite of the room. When Lightbulb brought up the idea of attempting a makeup look, they'd offered to help her and bring whatever makeup they had over. It was sweet, plus she got to spend more time with them!
"Pepper make it look easier than it actually is?" Paintbrush chimed in curiously from their spot on the bed, leaned back amongst the comfortable pillows as they seemed to be scrolling on their phone.
"Absolutely! Who'da thunk this would be so hard?" Lightbulb exclaimed as she rubbed off her 4th attempt at makeup, it was so much more difficult than she originally thought! She dug back into the bag Painty set on the vanity earlier, was filled with makeup, art tools, sketch books and honestly anything they brought around with them. Lightbulb shoved herself against the mirror, practically touching the cold surface as she cleared her face completely.
"Hm.. maybe I'm a clean face gal! Rocking that eyeliner-only look like Microphone," Lightbulb thought outloud, swiftly diving back into the bag until she pulled out a black eyeliner brush. For the amount of makeup Paintbrush owned, she couldn't recall if she'd never seen them wearing any. Makes her wonder why they owned so much in the first place.. if she knew Painty at all it was probably something artsy and cool!
"I think you'll look good in anything Lightbulb," They added genuinely as they took their attention away from their phone, choosing to watch the other object from across the room. A warm smile appeared on Lightbulb's face, visible to Paintbrush via the mirror she was sitting in front of.
Classic Painty, always complimenting her no matter what she looked like. They were the one who made her feel the most comfortable with the blue-ray the fastest! And what a relief that was, sometimes Lightbulb caught herself wishing she was her classic yellow still, it was her signature color after all.
"Why do ya own have so much makeup anyways? An emo phase?" She started applying some sort of light powder over her face, coughing a little as it lingered in the air. Her eyes shut to prevent any of the powder from getting in her eyes, although she heard Painty shift and get off the bed.
"Pfft. No. After I was elimated in season two I just got really bored, decided to try it out," Paintbrush commented as they moved from their spot on the bed to over by the vanity, a sound of amusement escaping them as they looked at how huddled up Lightbulb was. "You know there's a chair for the vanity, right?"
"Well duh! But I need to get up close, y'know? To focus on my masterpiece," Her hand wafted through the air to shoo the bits of powder away, before digging through and pulling out a black eyeliner stick. Paintbrush rolled their eyes affectionately in response.
"Don't act like I haven't caught you hunched over your paintings before!" She snickered. "Your posture looks worse than Baxter's-" Lightbulb pulled the eyeliner pen up close to her face, carefully trying to align it to where it would work best.
Then she yelped as a fist lightly collided with her shoulder, causing the eyeliner to drag across her cheek and leave quite the noticeable streak of black. "Hey!" She swatted playfully at Paintbrush, who was laughing in response as they stepped back to avoid the onslaught of smacks.
"Painty the eyeliner is usually supposed to be close to my eye, everyone knows that!" Lightbulb said dramatically as she attempted to wipe it away without a proper remover, causing the black to smudge all over their cheek. Paintbrush slipped to the other side of her to dig in their bag, pulling out a set of makeup remover wipes.
Paintbrush had a mischievous look on their face as they chuckled, pulling out one of the wet wipes. "Here," Paintbrush tilted her face up towards them and gently wiped away the eyeliner. Lightbulb leaned into the touch with a small smile of appreciation, physical affection from Painty was something that should be savored- or at least she thought so! Being close to them in general was, she loved how easily she could point out details about them up close.
Like the texture of their bristles! Lightbulb wasn't able to tell from further away but they actually looked quite soft now that she thought about it.. Without another thought she allowed her hand to move and gently engtangle into the mane of the other, the strands starting to fall delicately between her fingers.
Paintbrush froze up at the unexpected touch, especially towards something they valued heavily like their bristles. Their eyes followed Lightbulb's hand carefully before darting to look at her expression. Eye contact was held for a second before Lightbulb slipped her hand away. "Whoops, sorry." She clicked her tongue. "Forgot how much you valued-"
"It's fine." Paintbrush's words stumbled out of their mouth quickly, accidentally cutting off Lightbulb. "It's okay if you do it." With how tense their voice was you'd think they were lying their ass off.
Lightbulb blinked a couple times. "Oh!"
"Wasn't aware I was special, Painty" She shot them finger guns with a smug, but still warm smile. In which Paintbrush gritted their teeth fondly and laughed.
"You have no idea."
Lightbulb wasn't quite sure what that meant, but it was probably a good thing! She watched as Paintbrush stepped over and chucked the used makeup wipe into the trashcan. Suddenly a great idea popped into her head, gasping outloud.
"Painty! We should do each other's makeup!!" The amount of excitement that filled her voice was too much for Paintbrush to say no to.
"Oh- I-, sure Lightbulb." They were a little caught off guard but agreed nonetheless, a soft look present as they walked over and leaned against the countertop.
Lightbulb quickly grabbed Painty's bag and started rummaging through it. "What're we thinking..." She mumbled as she pulled out a variety of options, then held her thumb up to examine Painty's face, allowing an extra hint of drama to seep in as she pretended to really analyze them. "Like a dramatic full glam, lots of glitter." She added on, in which Paintbrush snorted.
"Maybe something more toned out, that clean-face look you mentioned?" They asked.
"Uggh you're no fun," Lightbulb grinned as she picked up the eyeliner and popped it open. She scooted to the edge of the vanity top, staying seated on top of it as Paintbrush moved to stand in front of them. The usual height difference was evened out due to Lightbulb's position.
Paintbrush leaned in a little as Lightbulb steadied herself against the wood below her, then used one hand to hold Paintbrush's face still and the other to gently brush the eyeliner across the corner of their right eye. She tried her best to be as still as possible, not wanting to mess up on their makeup at all.
Paintbrush held their breath, hoping it would allow Lightbulb to focus just a little better. That and no other reason at all, the proximity was not at all flustering for the taller object; not in the slightest. Their hands settled on either side of Lightbulb, holding onto the edges of the vanity with a rather intense grip.
Lightbulb moved onto their left eye and gently dragged the eyeliner across it for a quick moment, mimicking the other side perfectly- somehow!
"Omga! It actually worked!" Lightbulb's tone was excited as she leaned back to admire her work. "Don't move too much now, an artist is at work Painty," She dug back in the bag for a moment before pulling out some eyeshadow. Paintbrush snorted out a laugh and tried to keep themself as still as possible. Lightbulb held up the eyeshadow pallet next to Paintbrush's face and looked between the two intensely, putting all her focus into picking out the perfect color to compliment their eyes.
Eventually she settled on a deep brown, hoping it would stand out nicely against the warm colors of their face. She patted the eyeshadow brush into the pallet more times than necessary, before patting it over their eyes one at a time, creating a beautiful deepening look around their eyes.
"I don't remember eye shadow being part of the clean-girl look," Paintbrush’s voice was somewhat smug, in which Lightbulb quickly shushed them.
"Shhh!! Muses aren't supposed to talk Painty," Her voice carried a heavy layer of drama, causing Paintbrush to roll their eyes.
"Noted. My apologies madam."
Lightbulb finished up the eyeshadow and then leaned back against the back of the vanity, taking a moment to look over her work. On the other end, Paintbrush took a moment to appreciate how the gentle glow of the vanity shone behind Lightbulb's head, making her face a little hard to see. The yellow glow of the light contrasted nicely against the blue of Lightbulb as well, making her look ethereal to Paintbrush.. although they would argue she usually looked that way regardless.
"My masterpiece, if you will" Lightbulb scooted to the side to allow Paintbrush to look into the mirror, admiring their slightly surprised look.
Their face had a gentle display of deep brown eyeshadow on their eyelids, along with two sweeps of nearly perfect eyeliner across the corners of their eyes. Paintbrush leaned closer to the mirror with a light chuckle. "I thought you weren't good at makeup?" With how perfectly symmetrical the eyeliner was, you would think Lightbulb had taken makeup classes.
"I'm not! Guess it's easier with a proper canvas," Lightbulb joked as she dug through the makeup bag before gasping and yanking out a thing of lipstick. "Painty-" She started to turn but Paintbrush was rapidly shaking their head.
"Oh no, no way Light. This was already enough," They tried to keep their voice firm but a shaky level was lingering in it, not to mention the slightly adorable puppy-dog eyes Lightbulb was now giving them. "I- stop." They snorted dryly, tearing their gaze away.
"Pleaseeeee," Lightbulb pleaded, although she was already popping the lid off since she knew it would only be a couple of seconds before the other gave in. Which they did, sighing and leaning in to allow Lightbulb to gently drag the lipstick across their lips. It had been forever since Paintbrush even considered trying lipstick, they just weren't a fan of how it felt honestly.
Paintbrush rubbed their lips together a couple times to mix the lipstick, trying to ignore the weird feeling of it. Lightbulb watched them curious for a moment, before puckering her lips a little to try and get Paintbrush to do it. Interesting, but Paintbrush didn't give it another thought before making a kissy face for a minute.
In which Lightbulb suddenly leaned in and stole a quick peck from them, smudges of lipstick now present on her lips as she pulled back and simply went back to the makeup bag; leaving poor Paintbrush stiff as a twig and rapidly blinking their eyes. What the hell was that?
"Lightbulb-!" Paintbrush reeled their thoughts back with a frustrated, startled sputter. Lightbulb looked back with an innocent look, but Paintbrush knew damn well it was fake, and she was probably internally giggling at what she just did. They leaned back against the counter and pulled Lightbulb in for a proper kiss. Now it was her turn to be startled, but only for a moment before she leaned against the taller object and wrapped her arms around their shoulders.
After a painfully quick moment, the two separated for air as Lightbulb grinned. Then she tossed the eyeliner stick in the air and caught it, holding it out for Paintbrush to take.
"My turn!" Lightbulb shifted her position and leaned in, batting her eyelashes like she didn't just make Paintbrush's brain break and rewire itself within seconds. Honestly, all of her nonsense was going to get them killed one of these days. Paintbrush took the eyeliner stick with a shaky sigh and chuckled, before gently taking Lightbulb's face into their hands as they held the eyeliner in the other. Taking a moment to steady themselves, they slowly touched the edge of her eyelid and attempted to gently drag it across.
But the gentle, loving look in Lightbulb's eye was beyond distracting, causing their hands to become shakier than they normally would have been. Paintbrush cursed under their breath as their hold slipped and they dragged the eyeliner too low, nearly across Lightbulb's cheek. They retracted their hands off of her face.
"Shit. Sorry," They laughed nervously, quickly ripping their gaze away as they pulled out another makeup wipe.
"Jeez Painty, do you know where my eyes are? Right here! Not on my cheek," Lightbulb's voice was as playful as ever, soft giggles filling the air as Paintbrush felt their face heat up all over again.
"Really? I didn't notice." They grumbled with a pained grin, attempting to bite back the nervousness in their tone. The cool makeup wipe was dragged across Lightbulb's surface again as they cleaned up their previous mistake. Once the shine was back on her face, Paintbrush went back in carefully with the eyeliner and dragged it across, creating the first wing.
Their hands were shaky as they pulled back and looked for a moment, before going back in for the other eye as carefully as they could.
"Awfully shaky, PB" Lightbulb's teasing caused Paintbrush to grit their teeth hard enough to force themselves to hold still.
"Quiet you." They chuckled, finishing off the second eye and leaning back to admire their work. It wasn't as symmetrical as Lightbulb's job was, but it was well enough for them to be satisfied. They held Lightbulb's face with one hand as they dug around in the makeup bag for some bright eye shimmer.
Patting a light fluffy brush into the shimmer, they went back in and patted gently over Lightbulb's eyelids as she shut them. The shimmer was a very light pink, they honestly weren't sure why they even owned this one since it clearly didn't match. Must've been a gift of some sorts. While it might have not looked the best on them, it did go nicely with the light blue of Lightbulb.
"There. Did you want lipstick?" Paintbrush questioned as they pulled out a small variety of colors, holding some out.
"Maybe some of yourss?" Lightbulb's voice pitched up with a smile as she leaned forward, Paintbrush sputtering out a flustered noise as they leaned back.
"I." They gritted their teeth.
"You and your nonsense." Paintbrush sighed, cupping her face again before going in for one last kiss. Somehow she tasted sweet this time around, or maybe Paintbrush was losing it just a little; possibly from how good of a kisser Lightbulb was, had she kissed multiple people in the past?
Their hands gradually slid down the sides of Lightbulb's middle point, before finding a resting point on her hips. Lightbulb's arms wrapped around their neck and pulled them against the vanity front, nearly pulling them on top of her. Paintbrush wasn't exactly sure how much time they'd spent making out across the vanity until they felt Lightbulb pull back a bit, in which they stood back up straight.
"Jeez Painty," Lightbulb giggled a little. "I meant the tube of lipstick," She plunked the lipstick out of the bag with a grin.
"I- you!" Paintbrush sputtered before playfully smacking her arm, earning a burst of laughter out of the two that quickly drowned away Paintbrush's slight anger.
God. What were they going to do with her?
