Work Text:
The breeze grazed Wemmbu’s face, quietly blowing through his soft, violet wings. He was resting peacefully on the dew-dropped grass, the gentle greenery inviting and comfortable.
This new biome they stumbled upon was nice- peaceful, especially on a server like Unstable. Wemmbu laid down with his back to the ground, trying to take in the anomalous, sunny day. The grass was glowing from the plentiful sunlight, as a tree held its gleaming lime yellow leaves high in the wind.
There were a couple flowers scattered around too- a single striped and feathering tulip to the left of him, planted alongside a white lily, and a cluster of orange butterfly weed sat farther away. Sunflowers lied in the distance as well, but Wemmbu reminded himself not to linger on them for too long.
Instead, the avian let himself marvel in the day’s sunlight.
Hazy sunbeams looked down on him, and it always made Wemmbu feel more grounded and sleepy, like someone’s soft gaze landing on you.
Egg was up ahead of him, knelling down to observe a patch of periwinkles and daffodils. The yellow flowers looked just as radiant as the sun and as the purple ones as cold as the moon.
The two colors together reminded Wemmbu of him and Zam- a nametag he’ll admit he hadn’t seen in quite a while. Maybe that was for the better, as Wemmbu didn’t exactly know what terms they would be on anyway.
Even though the moon had a bright side thanks to the sun, it always had a dark side too, just as the sun was always scorching hot- burning both itself and whoever dared get close to it.
But they would both rise again someday.
“Hey Wemm!” Egg called.
Wemmbu slowly sat up as the angel came running towards him and held up a purple periwinkle before the avian, the color almost akin to Wemmbu’s wings.
His eyes sparkled and widened, along with his delicate wings spreading outwards from their usual position- both signals of appreciation for the flower. Egg giggled like he wouldn’t gift a flower to his best friend. The demonic avian then blinked, and immediately returned to the nonchalant state he usually held.
“Thanks bro.” He replied quietly and quickly took the periwinkle from Egg’s hand, placing down his enderchest and stashing it a random place, though he was careful as to not crush the precious petals.
He would find a proper place for it in his enderchest later, maybe next to the sunflower from-
Wemmbu reminded himself not to think of sunflowers for the second time today.
But all that reminding didn’t really work as Egg sat down next to him. They were resting in a flower field, getting just a taste of the sunny disposition Rejoice brought with him everywhere.
Maybe he would start striving to be more like Rejoice.
But Wemmbu knew that was an empty promise he didn’t want to make.

The day’s optimism faded as the sun drowned below the horizon- with vermillion red, monarch orange, daffodil yellow, and finally, a hint of purple that resembled Wemmbu’s hair fading into the quiet indigo and vast blue of the night sky.
The purple avian spread his wings and flapped them a few times, getting the itch to lift himself up into the stratosphere right then and there. He stared directly into the limitless abyss above, glittering with stars scattered across the skyline. It felt like looking back in time as the night sky always held the same humbling feeling of peering into infinity wherever you went.
…It reminded him of sculk.
The same blocks with souls seemingly merged into them. It made sense, as people often said the resting souls of the dead were shaped into stars for mortals to see.
Along with the fact that sculk is infinite, as long as death proceeds with it.
Glowing moonlight spread across the grassy field, illuminating the landscape. The demon and the angel concluded their chattering as they got up to leave the flower field that had served them well. On their way out, Egg had plucked a multitude of daisies from their resting spot- forcing Wemmbu to store some in his pockets as the angel began to make a flower crown.
Wemmbu imagined that Rejoice would enjoy making flower crowns.
He imagined a flower crown made out of sunflowers.
They would probably have to be fake and plastic, so that it could actually fit atop someone’s head- but that only meant Wemmbu could keep it forever. And he would, until he took his last fateful breath on the server.
Visions of the cavern were all coming back to him now- a vivid vision of the amethyst vines, the dark, dreary gray walls that suffocated him, the exact shade of sky blue twilight enveloping the ginormous cave mushrooms acting as a substitute for trees in the entirely abandoned civilization.
Well, almost entirely abandoned.
Wemmbu took himself back to all the small moments, like the group trimming their armor together and dying laughing over it, or meeting Rejoice for the first time. From the faint memories of their first conversation, Wemmbu remembered it being a bit awkward as the purple avian had only cared about where Jaden ran off to.
He also faintly recalled using chorus fruit to get down to the floor of the civilization at first. And how he stopped using chorus fruit as much after… his death. How he began use ice in pvp afterwards.
God, the one thing Wemmbu remembered incredibly clearly was his death.
He remembered seeing Rejoice’s face for a split second through everything.
He remembered the horrifying screams of that many wardens in a single room.
He remembered hearing Rejoice shout out his last words on the server.
He remembered the peircing sound of Rejoice’s death message so clearly.
He remembered Rejoice’s death like it only happened yesterday.
Of course he did.
In the end though, Wemmbu had spared Jaden, after all that work of hunting him down- it was ironic what the impact of just three words were.
Forgive.
And.
Forget.
“-emmbu bro.” He could hear Egg’s voice fading in now.
“Wemmbu.”
The avian blinked.
And he was brought back to the present.

That night, Wemmbu got to reminisce memories of the past.
After all, memories are just recollections of moments you never get to experience again.
