Sausage is the deadliest assassin in the assassin's guild. He may look innocent and silly, but that's an act he puts on to be unassuming. Get close to his targets, make other people underestimate him, before he kills them. He's already killed the real prince of Mythland and taken his place.
One day an elf named Xornoth hires him to assassinate Princess Pearl of Gilded Helianthia on her wedding day once she's at the altar. Sausage accepts because it's an oddly specific requests and he's bored.
So Sausage uses one of his many alter identities to get hired as Princess Pearl's bodyguard to get close to her. It's easier to sneak into a wedding from the inside after all.
But Pearl isn't like normal princesses. She's very good at getting away from her bodyguards. Sausage finds her actually becoming a challenge to track down sometimes but he's an assassin. He can handle her.
Still, he finds himself getting close to her. He finds that he's actually starting to be fond of her.
Sausage shouldn't. Assassins who go soft fail the mission.
But then Pearl seems to like him back, even if she knows she's in an arranged marriage with someone else and can't be with him.
But then Sausage finds out that Pearl's arranged husband is Xornoth and Sausage starts to wonder what in the world is going on. He does some digging and finds out that the assassination was oddly specific because Xornoth was planning on sacrificing Pearl to the deer demon god Exor in exchange for dark magic and Xornoth wanted to be king of Gilded Helianthia if he couldn't have Rivendell because of his brother Scott taking the throne. And then he would blame the assassination of the princess on Mythland, dragging them into a war that Xornoth would win so he could rule Mythland too.
Having once dealt with dark magic, Sausage knows it's a bad idea and he can't have Xornoth go through with this plan. He also suddenly doesn't want Pearl dead for some reason.
Sausage fesses up to Pearl about how he's secretly an assassin sent to kill her but that he won't to stop the plan. And on the wedding day they expose Xornoth and Sausage kills him without making it look like it's him. Assassin skills after all.
Pearl and Sausage both know they love each other now, but Pearl says that she can't marry him because political reasons.
Sausage just winks and says to wait.
And then Pearl's parents tell her that they've changed the arranged marriage that she will marry the prince of Mythland to make up for the almost war and while Pearl is indifferent at first Sausage reveals that being an assassin comes with a lot of alternate identities and that he's also the prince and they all live happily ever after.
