Chapter 1: I've grown a mouth so sharp and cruel

Chapter Text

Grian was afraid. The cruel entities that called themselves Watchers had come to speak to them after Past Life.

Here they stood now and with his fellow traumatised winners and waited for their verdict. He just needed a bit more time and he would be able to overpower Prime 1.

Pearl would need to help as well. Her battle prowess was dangerous. For the watchers not them.

They towered over the winners like mountains and laughed.

It was cruel and angry like nails on a chalkboard and more eyes opened around them to peek at their suffering.

“You have disappointed us Winners. So we have concocted a new punishment for those who fail to entertain. You will be sent there and your little friends as well. You deserve it.”

A portal opened up and swallowed them up to who knows where. When the black tendrils tried to drag him down he summoned his sword and sliced them off his legs, he then flew out of the trap.

Scott cut his ankles free with his ice dagger and also dodged out of the way of the portal.

“Xelqua, this is for ruining our meal. Those emotions were ours, you pathetic excuse for a watcher.

The god of freedom will certainly enjoy the place you are going.”

They gave an awful grin before summoning purple void chains that bound his wings and left him landlocked.

“And as for you stars-”THAT'S NOT HIS NAME!” Grian interjected with pure malice in his voice.

The watcher simply flicked his wrist and he was silenced.

“As I was saying, Stars, after the council got together and voted you will not be in the punishment place. Instead you will be made to watch and be helpless.

It's the most maddening role there and even though I would love to give it to our rule breaking Xelqua over here, the majority have decided that our entertainment will be more satisfying outside.

Good luck players…”

And with the lecture over they were pulled into the void portals. The only hint of light was from the stars rushing by them.

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Grian awoke in a clearing with familiar voices nearby. But his head swam and so it was hard to differentiate them from one another.

He swore he heard his name and his suspicions were confirmed by his sister tapping his shoulder.

His wings instinctively opened and he thanked whoever was listening that the chains were gone.

“Are you back in the present mate?” her signature aussie accent was clear and only proved further it was her.

“Yeah but where are we?” He gazed up and only saw a tall grey wall that was covered in vines and other creeping plants.

“I dunno but Gemmy and I found this big gate. Impulse saw some lava in there and he yelled at us not to go in. He is no fun.”

He chuckled at his sister’s rambles and turned his head towards where Pearl said the gate was.

“Also I tried to fly up to see but I just couldn't pass at one point. It seemed like 25 blocks if my measurements are correct.”

The strangeness of this whole situation was really starting to wear on him but it was either to hide something or a personal dig at the two runaway watchers. It seemed they would be stuck gliding for a while.

Even though he felt really nauseous he needed to get his bearings of their current location.

He spotted his husband chopping down a tree with his calloused hands and he walked over. He greeted the avian warmly but there was confusion behind his eyes. Scar always knew that the watchers were bad and responsible for the games but he never knew their full involvement or what they were used for.

Thankfully when Grian told him he was a watcher criminal and was against them he accepted him with open arms.

He tried to explain the whole feasting on bad emotions but Scar never fully understood the extent of what that meant. The lifeblood for them was hate and hurt, their violent hearts being content to make others kill for a mere snack.

They were heartless and he would never be like them.

Scar handed him some seeds and told him to grow some for food. They would have to prepare for the long term if they were not able to get out of here.

And speaking of ‘here’ where was here?

He walked over towards the gate that Pearl had spoken about, he looked up and saw the clear blue sky. He treaded onwards through the long fresh grass.

But the lack of birdsong was not a good sign. Neither were the animals they couldn't find.

He reached the place where the dads, Impulse and Skizz, were standing and he stared directly down the corridor of cracked stone bricks and he could have sworn he heard lava bubbles.

He took a deep breath and stepped down the hallway, much to Impulse's yelling and worried complaints.
