Haunted Doll AU

Work Text:

Faith wasn’t sure what to feel when she got purchased. She’d been languishing away in some antique store or another for longer than she’d been alive for, with her only company being the growing madness of her mind.

So, when a trio of women wandered into the shop, chatting and almost destroying an ancient Japanese tea set, she was shocked, to say the least, that they purchased her.

The thing was, Faith looked like a haunted doll. Cracked porcelain, that left huge white rivulets on her once bright brown skin, faded by the years. A small gingham dress, with an undeniable stain on the back that may have once been blood (and Faith knew it was). And, huge, black eyes, without an iris, that seemed to follow people around the room (because they did). All in all, she was probably the least purchasable item in the shop, and her competition included several very poorly taxidermied skunks.

What was extra strange was how they only bought her. Who woke up one day and decided to go to the local antique shop (and it was at least somewhat local, they couldn’t have driven for more than 40 minutes in that busted van) to buy a haunted doll. She was pretty convinced that it was some form of bet, since she heard mention to one of them- Chris- eating soap.
That, or they were all really stupid.

Turned out it was both.
They were, undeniably, idiots, the lot of them. No one even bothered with a protective sigil around where Faith sat until she helpfully strangled a mouse that wandered into the building, and got the hint.

Still, she did quite like sitting on the mantelpiece and watching the three of them. They played a lot of truth or dare. One memorable occasion featured Chris and Jackie kissing, which Faith could definitely get behind.

Her inability to communicate with the threesome was rather grating, though. Especially with how badly they clearly all wanted to have some form of carnal relations and just. Flat out. Refused. To talk.

Faith could get behind that, too.

Maybe she’d do a painting in blood. Or red paint. Blood was a lot of effort, and Chris had all sorts in that van.
