Work Text:
Jacket felt his presence before he heard the growl, the low echoing sound, almost like a canine but too high, too human. Then he felt the breath, heavy huffs on his neck. And finally the hand wrapping around his waist and bearded face snuggled into the space between his neck and shoulder. Wolf inhaled deeply, the smell of something retro and old hitting his lungs, tinted with the familiar scent of copper and sweat. Perfectly his mate’s.
He rolled his eyes but brought a slim and pale hand up to slide his fingers across the bald surface of his mate’s head. There wasn’t hair there, but rather small prickles. Wolf was due for a shave soon. Wolf intentionally kept himself bald to prevent being recognized by a pig on his haircut. Although the rest of his body was hairy as a Wolf.
Wolf made a stuttering sound, like a dog trying to purr or an engine at the end of its rope. Although the sound was of joy rather than any negative feeling. A sound of love and devotion, like a lovebird singing out. The vibrations rang through Jacket’s neck softly and the tension in his shoulder eased. Oh how he needed that comfort. That sweet feeling that spread through his body when he finally let himself lower the walls enough to feel. It was a rare thing for him, to experience any emotion. But when he did it was like a crashing tide. Thankfully this wave was of reaction and joy.
Wolf swayed gently as he pulled Jacket away from his desk and computer and to the bed. Well, what was originally a bed. It was now a mess with blankets and pillows built into the shape of a nest or dog bed. It smelled like dog, grease, metal, and something like an arcade. The smell was simultaneously disgusting and comforting. Like a dirty garage and your childhood home bundled into one. It was hard to describe. That was one of two smells that follow Jacket. Something distinctly 80s and death.
But as Jacket was dragged into their nest and Wolf splayed himself across him, he momentarily forgot the latter. The weight on top of him was comfortable. A familiar heavy that’d he’d grown to love. His big scary Wolf. Like a gleefully twisted version of a fairytale. Instead of pigs defeating the Wolf, the Wolf had drilled the pigs through the eye and gone home to rest atop his living corpse like lover.
Jacket let his breathing grow steadied and softer. He let his guard down, not fully, but enough for his eyes to grow heavy as he felt the soft nuzzle of his mate’s nose in his neck. He let out a hum, a sound of adoration and trust. It was moments like these that Jacket wished he could speak. To whisper to Wolf how much he loved him and trusted him. Wolf knew he was an exception person, he’d figured it out when Jacket actually let him stand close and touch him, but, he didn’t know how deeply Jacket cared about him. Just as Jacket would never fully grasp how much Wolf was infatuated with him and what Jacket means to Wolf. Words or not, love so deep is impossible to show in its truest form.
“Goodnight, Älskling.” Wolf whispered as he gave gentle kisses on Jacket’s neck and collar bone. Jacket responded by wrapping an arm around Wolf and pulling him closer. For two creatures who’d known nothing but violence and pain their whole lives? It was nice. Like sunshine. And they deserved sunshine.
