Chapter Text
Cass was hunched over a bowl of cereal in the Wayne Manor dining room when the bickering floated down the stairs and entered the previously silent kitchen. Stephanie and Damian had been arguing back and forth for weeks over the same issue.
“I HAVE KISSED MANY PEOPLE! AM TOTALLY KISSABLE!” Steph shouted, obviously not caring that most other people in the manor were still asleep.
“You are totally not kissable,” Damian said. At this point, Cass knew he was just testing how angry he could get Steph.
---
It had started when she was lamenting to anyone who would listen about her lack of a dating life.
“It’s been, like, years since I even kissed anyone,” she had complained to Cass and Damian during patrol one night.
“I’m sure there’s someone out there,” Batgirl had reassured her while keeping her eyes glued on two guys who were very obviously about to break into a pawn shop.
“Yeah, right. Like anyone would want to go out with Brown,” Robin teased. Cass didn’t need to read his posture to tell that he wasn’t being serious, after all, Damian had been teasing Stephanie since they first met.
“First of all, that’s rude,” Spoiler scoffed. “Second of all, tons of people would love to go out with me. I have tons of great qualities.”
“Really? List them,” Damian demanded.
“Well, I’m an amazing kisser, for starters.”
“Doubt it,” Damian remarked. That one simple comment had spawned half a month’s worth of arguing, with Stephanie growing more and more angry as time went on and Damian growing more and more pleased with his ability to make her mad. Cass, of course, had to be present for every single installment in their feud, coincidentally.
It had begun to get really annoying, so she invited Stephanie over to the manor for a sleepover, hoping that whatever movies and snacks they would indulge in would get her best friend’s mind off the topic of her “kissability,” but, of course, that is not how things turned out.
---
“I’ve kissed way more people than you, and all of them have liked it, so I don’t know why you think you’re qualified to speak on this topic,” Steph repeated the same defense she’d used a hundred times before.
“Proof or it didn’t happen,” Damian repeated the same quip he’d used a hundred times before.
Cass stood up with a sigh, having finished her sugary breakfast, and stomped over to the sink, rinsing out her bowl. As she watched the faucet pour water into her bowl, she silently hoped either the water would be loud enough to drown out the argument or rise high enough to drown her so she didn’t have to listen to it anymore. Putting the bowl in the sink to dry, Cass watched as Damian sat down on the sofa and picked up a book. This was one of his favorite methods to torment Steph when they argued, Cass knew.
“Will you look at me when I’m trying to make my point?” Steph grabbed the book from Damian’s hands and crossed her arms, a pouty look painting her face.
“I don’t need to look at you. I’ve already heard all of your points before. They suck,” Damian reached for the book, attempting to look unbothered as Stephanie held it above his head.
Cass had been looking forward to spending the day with Steph, to saying ‘good morning’ when she woke up, to lounging around all day, and just being in her presence. Now, she wished she were alone. Neither of them had even acknowledged her when they came down; she was beginning to doubt they even knew she was there. Then, as she looked at Stephanie’s (in her opinion, adorable) face, an idea popped into her head.
“My points do NOT s-” Steph was cut off by Cassandra, who placed her hands on her cheeks and planted a kiss on her lips. Steph froze, paralyzed by the sudden action, before closing her eyes and melting into the kiss. Then, just as suddenly as it had come, the kiss was gone. Stephanie blinked at Cass, her pouty face reemerging as their lips separated.
Cass stepped back, licked her lips thoughtfully, and shrugged. “Kissable,” she said before walking up the stairs, leaving Steph and Damian alone and hoping neither one noticed how red she was getting.
Steph, still in shock, touched two fingers to her lips, “W-what?”
Unfazed, Damian grinned, “So, Brown, how was your first ever kiss?”
Stephanie snapped out of her trance and glared at the grinning boy, “I’LL HAVE YOU KNOW THAT I’VE HAD MANY KISSES, YOU LITTLE SHIT!”
Upstairs, in her room, Cass shoved a pillow over her ears, wondering what it would take to make the arguing end. If a kiss wouldn’t work, maybe she’d have to start planning dates…
