Chapter Text
The streets were quiet.
The kind of quiet that only settled over Tokyo after midnight, where crowds have emptied and the city lights more distant than comforting.
A young couple walked hand in hand down the sidewalk. Youthful eyes full of love.
The girl was talking about an interaction she had this morning, hands moving energetically as she spoke. The boy laughed, eyes glimmering as if she herself was his life, his soul, his everything.
Neither of them noticed the figure standing at the end of the street.
At first, one would think it looks human.
Then it moved.
Too many limbs bent in the wrong direction.
Its smile stretched far too wide.
The couple’s steps slowed. The girl clinging tighter to her boyfriend. Her voice faltering
“Did you see that?”
“What”
The figure disappeared.
“See wha-“
Something crashes into him. The unknown force left him collapsed on the pavement.
The girl screamed. A loud agonizing scream. One that’d happen only if the one you love, the one you already daydreamed a future with, the one that replaces the suns light in your world was collapsed. Dead or alive. Who knows at this point. Who even knows what’s Infront of you right now.
The girl stumbles backwards. Unsure what to do. Panic in her heart.
A mass of dark limbs unfold from the shadows, eyes opening one after another across its body. A wide, unpleasant smile spread.
The creatures gaze shifted between them.
Watching.
Studying.
Almost… jealous?
Its smile only got bigger as it lunged on the girl.
-
Soon after, ambulance arrived taking the injured victims to the hospital. Police taking statements from witnesses. Most people would leave it as that.
A violent attack.
A unknown criminal.
Or even an unlucky coincidence.
But in a world of Jujutsu Sorcerers, that definitely wasn’t the case.
At the scene of the incident arrives Kiyotaka Ijichi and Gojo Satoru. The residuals of cursed energy lingering in the air, impossible to miss.
A curse.
A strong one at that, leaving such a powerful cursed energy residue.
Ijichi stands examining the scene. A familiar voice spoke from beside him.
“Pretty nasty.”
Ijichi adjusts his glasses and turned.
Gojo Satoru stood hands in pockets, gaze on the cursed energy lingering around the scene.
“It targeted them specifically,” Ijichi said.
Gojo hummed.
“The curse?”
Ijichi nodded.
“This makes the fifth reported incident in three weeks.”
That caught Gojo’s attention.
“The fifth?”
“All of the victims were couples.”
For a moment neither spoke. Then Ijichi opened a folder that had been tucked beneath his arm.
“The reports are nearly identical each time. Same idea different people.”
He flipped through the several reports.
“Young couple, public locations.”
Another page.
“Survivors consistently describe the same thing. A humanoid figure with a wide smile moments before attack.”
Another.
“Each victim reported feeling watched beforehand.”
Gojo took the file.
Expression remained casual.
“Interesting.”
“There’s more.”
Ijichi adjusted his glasses again. A habit he frequently does.
“No witnesses without their romantic partner have been attacked. Both partners are always present.”
Gojo looked up.
A grin spread slowly across his face. Clear interest finally peeking in.
“Oh?”
“The curse seems to be selecting its victims.”
A brief silence followed.
Broken by Gojo’s laugh.
And for some reason that made Ijichi more nervous. Which is normal if you’d see someone grinning like crazy and laughing at a curse. But again, it’s Gojo Satoru.
He gulps nervously, “Gojo-San…?”
The grin remains plastered over his pretty face. If not wider.
“I have an idea.”
Yep, that meant trouble.
-
The following morning was surprisingly peaceful. Which should’ve been already the first warning sign.
Yuji sat next to Megumi working his way happily through a breakfast that could’ve easily fed three people.
He’s a growing boy what can we say?
Nobara sat across of them scrolling on her phone with a bored expression.
While Megumi… well he was just enjoying the peace. No arguments, no Gojo, no nothing. But of course no such day exists in Tokyo Jujutsu High.
The door slammed open.
“Good morning my favorite students!”
“We are your only students,” Nobara groaned not looking up from her phone.
“Morning sensei!” Yuji greeted with a wide stuffed smile.
Megumi just groaned, his peaceful morning already disappearing within seconds.
“What do you want?” Megumi asked annoyed.
“Oooh I was waiting for this question!”
Gojo replies way too excited than he should be. Grin too wide for Megumi’s liking. He knew that smile. He had known him far too long to recognize a smile that only trouble follows.
Gojo dropped a folder on the table.
“We have a mission.”
Yuji immediately perked up, food long gone.
“What kind? Where? Why? How?”
“Calm down fellow student! It’s a rather interesting one…”
Megumi knew that was never reassuring.
“Spit out already senseiii,” Nobara huffs finally looking up.
Gojo opened the folder and began explaining the recent attacks.
A curse.
Multiple victims.
Every incident nearly identical.
Seemed like nothing new to the trio.
But Megumi listened carefully. There had to be a catch. There’s always a catch that follows Gojo’s creepy excited grin.
Finally Gojo reached the part that would change the direction of this case.
“The victims all have one thing in common.”
“A curse mark?” Yuji guessed.
“No.”
“A specific location?” Nobara asked, a bit more interested now.
“Nope!”
Gojo’s grin widened.
Uh oh.
“They’re all couples.”
Silence followed.
“…okay?” Yuji said breaking the silence.
Gojo clapped his hands together excited.
“So naturally, in order to investigate-“
Megumi suddenly had a bad feeling. This wasn’t going to end well.
“-two of you will need to act as a lovely couple!”
Nobara burst out laughing.
Yuji nearly choked.
Megumi stared.
The room, once again, fell into silence.
Then,
“No.”
Gojo ignored him.
“Kugisaki, unfortunately, the curse’s victims have been all romantic couples. Since we need a pair-“
“Absolutely not,” Nobara interrupted leaning on one hand.
Gojo nodded.
“Excellent suggestion.”
Nobara frowned.
“I wasn’t suggesting anything?”
Then it clicked.
Her eyes narrowed. Slowly, very slowly, she turned her head.
Toward Yuji.
Then Megumi.
Then back to Gojo.
“Oh.”
Both of them grinned in sync.
“Oh, no.”
Megumi knew where this was going.
Yuji immediately looked concerned. Not putting the strings together yet.
“What? What’s wrong?”
Nobara let out a laugh.
“Gojo-sensei…”
“Yes, Megumi?”
“No.”
“I haven’t even said anything yet.”
“I know.”
Nobara was cackling at the thought of it already. Oh how she couldn’t wait for the real event.
“What is happening? Why am I the only one not in on this?”
Gojo clasped his hands together.
“I’m glad you asked dear student!”
Gojo dramatically points at Yuji and Megumi.
“You two will be posing as our lovely couple!”
The realization hit. Hard.
“Wait.”
Uh oh.
“Wait, wait, wait… like a real couple?”
Gojo nodded, grin plastered all over his face.
“A convincing couple.”
Nobara nearly fell off her chair in laughter.
“OMG, he’s actually thinking about it already.”
Yuji’s soul visibly left his body. Megumi lightly scoffed. It can’t be that bad to have to pretend to date me.
Wait what was he thinking? Why is he even thinking this?
“No, absolutely not.”
Meanwhile with Yuji? He remained unfrozen.
Gojo smiled, “Perfect it’s settled!”
Yuji looked alarmed.
Megumi felt alarmed.
Nobara? Looked happier than ever.
“Oh this is gonna be hilarious,” She teased.
“It won’t.”
“It absolutely will.”
Megumi glanced at Yuji, expecting the same level of horror.
Instead, he froze.
Yuji’s ears looked red.
His cheeks too.
Just slightly. But enough to be noticeable.
Megumi frowned.
Was he embarrassed?
Nervous?
Sick?
The expression vanished almost immediately.
“R-right,” Yuji said. “The mission.”
Nobara’s grin somehow widened.
“Oh?”
Yuji immediately looked away.
Interesting.
Megumi wasn’t entirely sure why.
