>>EDI. If I’m confirmed KIA, or if it’s been >24 hours since the last vital update from my hardsuit, please forward the following message to Staff Commander Kaidan Alenko ASAP.
————————————————–
Kaidan,
I’ve been wishing you were here since I woke up… but if you’re getting this message, then maybe it’s for the best that you aren’t.
Part of me doesn’t want to write this. You’ve been through enough, and you’re still healing. I don’t want to reopen old wounds.
And I don’t need closure; I understand why things are the way they are between us right now. I know we would have worked things out once we had time, whether that’s as friends, or… something more.
So. I’m not writing this for me. I’m writing this because I know you.
Kaidan. You’re not to blame. For any of this.
When you evacuated the Normandy without me, you did the right thing. All the surviving crew-members owe you their lives.
And you were right not to join me after Horizon. Cerberus is everything you said they are, and probably worse. I just thought I’d be able to get free of them, eventually… but I guess I won’t have to worry about that now.
Kaidan, you’re a hell of a soldier, and the most talented officer who’s ever served under me. I’m so impressed by what you’ve achieved since the SR-1 went down. I know how hard you’ve worked, how hard you’re still working.
Which brings me to what I want to say more than anything else:
Don’t forget what you promised me. Lighten up. Okay? You, of all people, deserve to be happy.
I love you, Kaidan. Like I’ve never loved anyone. I hope that isn’t selfish to say; I hope it brings you more than just pain.
I wish you the best life, full of peace and happiness.
Shepard
Ps: Remember on shore leave, when you laughed at my taste in music and showed me those old songs you liked? I’ve been listening to this one a lot lately… you were right, it’s strangely comforting.
