Work Text:

The light of August falls slowly and silent.

Dark brown eyes follow the twinkling descent.

Grey eyes follow her.

Look away.

Look back.

Leaves on a tree that gave, and gives again.

Shadow, light.

A dark side to the moon as it rises.

Breathe in – out.

Movement like water; an ebb, a flow.

Magic is like the tide

and her breath

and the creation

and the origin.

In.

Out.

‘Hermione?’

A question.

An idea.

Who she is and who she will be again.

Mother.

What she is becoming.

Protecting.

Hidden first, then revealed.

Her key.

His locks.

Their love, fitted together.

A tongue.

A groove.

The Gemini and the Virgo.

The two faces of a father.

The two names of a mother.

Granger. Malfoy. Both, hinged together.

The water cools as she stands.

A blazing crown.

Matrescence.

Four minutes pass after the fourth chime.

The moon waxes as her energy wanes.

Caught. Held. Safe.

Unfinished.

The water is warm again as she rests.

Breathes.

Out. In.

Matched tears at the arrival of ‘he’.

Unmatched sighs at the beauty of her.

Her.

Hermione.

Mother.

Bearer of child.

Draco.

Father.

Bearer of fruit.

Of bad news.

Of burden.

Sustaining.

Waiting.

The air grows thick.

Her womb grows tight.

In.

Out.

Out.

Moonrise.

Twenty three.

Discord becomes chaos

becomes formation

becomes ‘she’.

Controlling the tides.

She exits and enters the water all at once.

‘He’ and ‘she’ are ‘they’.

And they are here.

And they are theirs.

The son, and the moon.

Notes:

A Rare Pear 🍐

Draco Malfoy rescued me from the Great Hall.

A hall where Lisa Turpin had missed three breakfasts.

Careful not to drop me, I was stowed in the pocket of his robes.

He could have answered the riddle at the tower door, but he did not.

When she returned, he held me out with a smile.

She took me, and thanked him.

I was delicious.

In the dungeons, kissing followed.

The sort that makes a girl sigh into a boy’s mouth.

By supper, Ravenclaw knew.

Then Hufflepuff.

Gryffindor.

By Christmas, it was fact.

And so the Slytherin Prince became a God.
