Dean hadn’t noticed the weird sheen to his water before he drank it. He and Cas were back in a motel room while Sam gathered some information about their hunt. Dean and Cas were looking up some information online and prepping the weapons they’d likely need if they were correct about what it was they were after.
He hadn’t realized that something had been added to his water at all.
Not until Sam got back and did a double take after seeing the slight, weird sheen the water had.
“Uh, Dean, have you drunk any of this?” Sam asked, looking from the water bottle to Dean. Dean just furrowed his brow with a slight frown on his face.
“Yeah. Why, is something wrong with it?” Dean asked, wondering why Sam looked worried.
“Because there’s some weird sheen to it. I think it either got spelled or something was added to it, but I don’t know what.”
That made Dean freeze. Fucking witches. This is one of the many reasons he hated when they were dealing with a witch.
“Dammit,” Dean breathed out, rubbing his forehead. “Ok, what the fuck did I end up drinking in my water?”
Sam looked at the remaining liquid. “I’m not sure. Let me try and figure it out. I’m pretty sure it’s nothing deadly, at least. If it was, you’d probably be dead already.”
“Real reassuring.”

Sam was keeping a watch of Dean out of the corner of his eye to make sure he’d catch any symptoms of whatever the fuck was in Dean’s water. At least he hadn’t drunk all of it yet. He was finding a few possible options for what it was (apparently the fact that it was mostly clear narrowed down possibilities quite a bit) and was thinking of calling Rowena for some more… qualified help. Sure she’d taken Sam as some sort of protegé, but she was still the best bet to find out what the hell this was. Besides the witch who did this, anyways.
And chances were whoever did it wasn’t going to just tell them. Plus, Sam didn’t know how long it would take them to find the witch and without knowing what Dean had meant they didn’t know if it was fatal and if there was a time limit.
Now he did notice that Dean kept looking over at Cas while he was cleaning his weapons. Granted, those two were constantly looking at each other, sometimes meeting eyes and just… staring. But this seemed a little different.
And if Sam was looking closely enough, it looked like there was a slight sheen over Dean’s eyes. Almost pink in color.
Ok, it was time to call Rowena.

“Samuel, to what do I owe the pleasure?” Rowena’s voice asked once she picked up the call.
“Rowena, hey. So Dean and I are on a hunt, most likely a witch, and I’m pretty sure some sort of potion got added to a bottle of water Dean had and he ended up drinking some of it before I noticed. I have no idea what it is,” Sam answered back.
“Never a dull moment with you boys, is it? Alright, what does this potion look like? Smell like? How is Dean behaving? I might be able to identify it without needing to be there.”
Sam relayed the look from what he could see and what it smelled like (surprisingly it smelled like roses?) and how Dean had been acting (which was basically the same as he had been before drinking it) and waited while Rowena looked through her own sources.
“Well, luckily it’s not a long lasting potion,” Rowena eventually told Sam, causing him to let out a relieved breath.
“How long do you think it’ll last for?” he asked.
“Well, since it doesn’t seem he drank the full dose, maybe a couple days at most.”
“What exactly is the potion and what is it doing to him?”
“Well, your brother’s been given a love potion. Makes him fall in love with the first person he sees. The only reason it wouldn’t affect his behavior too much is if he was already in love with the person he first saw after drinking it.”
That made Sam freeze a little. The only other person with them on the hunt, who would’ve been in the room with Dean while Sam was gone, was Cas.
So Dean was looking at Cas more.
That also meant he already had feelings for Cas if his behavior was mostly the same as before.
He fucking knew it!
The only question was, did Dean know that he was in love with Cas?
Oh this was going to be priceless…

Sam walked back into the motel room after his call with Rowena, noticing even more how much Dean was looking over at Cas. His brother already did that a lot but it seems the potion was increasing that. After he closed the door, both Dean and Cas looked over to him.
“What did Rowena say? Does she know what I was dosed with?” Dean asked. Sam nodded.
“Yeah, she figured it out. First off, the potion should wear off in a couple days at most from what she said. Especially because you didn’t drink the entire bottle. Now the potion was apparently a love potion,” Sam said, watching as Dean’s brow furrowed in confusion before he continued, “and it’s supposed to make you fall in love with the first person you see. The only time it doesn’t affect behavior much is if you’re already in love with the person you first see after drinking it. Now, wasn’t Cas the one you saw first after drinking it since you two were in the room together?”
Did Sam have to add that last part? No. Did he anyway to be a little shit? Yes.
Dean blushed a bit and Cas moved his piercing gaze from Sam to Dean at that last bit of information. Sam just grinned at his obviously in love brother and mentioned something about getting dinner before grabbing the keys to the impala and leaving. He knew there was going to be some sort of conversation between his brother and Cas and he was doing the wise thing and getting the hell out of dodge for enough time for them to have that conversation.
Maybe this would end the amount of unresolved tension he constantly had to deal with between the two of them.

Once Sam left the room, Dean looked over at Cas who was still staring intently at him.
This was so not how he wanted Cas to find out that he liked him.
He hadn’t known he had feelings for Cas long, maybe a week or two. It took a while for him to actually realize and acknowledge that he was into guys too (he knew his dad was the reason he had issues realizing that in the first place) and after that it took a bit to realize he was specifically into Cas. And he’d been trying to figure out if he should say anything to the angel because he didn’t want to fuck up their friendship at all if it turned out Cas didn’t like him back.
But with the way Cas was looking at him, maybe that wasn’t a worry.
“Uh…” Dean so very eloquently got out, not sure what exactly he should say right now.
“Is that true?” Cas asked, stepping a bit closer to Dean.
“Is what true?” Dean asked. Cas just stepped closer, now only inches from him.
“That you already have feelings for me? You have not been acting differently after drinking the potion, which would mean you already have feelings for me. Is that true?”
Dean felt his blush darken and spread as he nodded. “Yeah, it’s true. I figured it out maybe a week ago and was trying to figure out if I should tell you since I wasn’t sure you felt the same. I-”
He was cut off when Cas grabbed Dean and pulled him into a kiss. After his initial surprise, Dean melted into it, kissing back hungrily as he reveled in the feeling on Cas’s lips against his own. He eventually brought his arms up to wrap around Cas’s waist while Cas’s hands were still gripping the fabric of his jacket after he’d used it to pull Dean to him.
Cas eventually pulled back from Dean after what was likely only a few moments but felt infinitely longer. Dean could feel the heat of his blush spread over his face as his mind struggled to reboot after that kiss. Cas just smiled at the state Dean was in since it wasn’t one he’d seen often, if ever.
“That should tell you whether or not I feel the same,” Cas said, letting go of Dean’s jacket to reach a hand out to grab one of Dean’s so he could intertwine their fingers. Once his mind had rebooted, Dean smiled at Cas a little shyly.
“It does. So, um, guess you’d be alright with us trying to date?” Dean asked in response. Cas actually rolled his eyes a bit at that.
“Of course, Dean.”
“Great. Just, uh, know that I might be a bit… tricky to deal with. I’ve only just realized I’m not fully straight and it’s still a lot to deal with for me.”
Cas smiled at him and kissed his cheek, causing the blush that had faded to return in full force once more.
Luckily by the time Sam returned with dinner, Dean’s blush had vanished again but he and Cas were sitting as close together as they could without being indecent and whenever possible they were reaching out to grasp the other’s hand. Sam noticed, but never said anything and only smiled a bit.
Though Dean did see him take a picture trying to be sneaky about it.
And knowing his brother, that picture would be making the rounds with their friends tonight and by tomorrow morning Dean would be getting messages about it from a few of them, especially Charlie.
