Summary
In 1919, an Irish war doctor arrives in Small Heath to open a military-funded clinic for veterans and the poor. A former Medical Officer who spent four years on the front lines of the Great War, he carries more scars than he lets anyone see, hiding them behind sharp wit, dark humor, and a tongue sharp enough to cut through steel.
Living above the clinic with the five loyal companions who have served his family for generations, he intends to keep his head down and focus on saving lives.
Then he meets Thomas Shelby.
What begins as an uneasy professional relationship slowly grows into trust, friendship, and something neither man is prepared for. But Birmingham is a city built on violence, secrets, and old wounds, and both men know better than anyone that surviving a war does not mean leaving it behind.
