Chapter Text
JAN 01 2011
Lisa watched the door to the first floor of the apartment building with bated breath, her heart hammering in her chest, anticipation and fear churning in the pits of her stomach.
She's paid several homeless people who lived here handsome amounts of cash for them to vacate the building to use for her purposes. Honestly, it was highly likely it won't survive this encounter.
Her power warned her before she could even hear them. A change she very much appreciated.
[Warning: Multiple footsteps approaching, Mercenaries are cautious and awaiting orders from coil.]
She braced herself and took a breath, gun holstered and sword sheathed.
She was less adept with the sword than with a gun however incase she couldn't use a gun, a sword would help. Honestly, she didn't really know how to use it.
Two months ago, she wouldn't have carried a weapon because she wouldn't have thought to use it. In fact, she wouldn't have carried a gun either.
That was before her power got a major upgrade from some weird Trump that was apparently bored because being a Trump was boring.
Lisa calls bullshit but what did she know about being an Eidolon or the Siberian
In any case, here she was now, facing off against Coil's mercenaries with nothing but a gun, a sword, and some well placed grenades.
When the guy told her he'd upgrade her powers, she didn't think it meant playing keep away with Coil of all people.
The door burst open, splintering as it crashed against the wall.
Lisa moved.
[Notice: Weak point, neck, 3cm gap between the armor and chin.]
She unholstered the gun, undid the safety, and took a single shot.
The bullet struck true and dropped the lead mercenary like a sack of potatoes.
There was a lull as the rest stepped back for cover and that gave Lisa ample time to run up the flight of stairs.
Their hail of bullets came a little too late as she was already on the second floor by the time they fired.
She opened the first door to her left and grabbed a grenade that sat on a nightstand placed by the door. She ignored the smell of weed and smoke that came from the room and took out the pin.
[Warning: Enemy advancing up slowly, cautious of gun fire]
'Good'
She exited the room and tossed the grenade down the stairs. The floor shook with the explosion, their panicked screams drowned out by the noise.
[Notice: Ten minutes before PRT arrives, five minutes before Coils orders men to retreat]
She took a breath, not out of the woods yet.
[Warning: Entry through the corridor window eminent]
She ran through the corridor and to the window, stopping briefly and quickly leaning against the wall, and waited.
The window broke, and glass flew as a man in mercenary clothing rolled to the floor, and Lisa was quick to put a bullet through the back of his neck. He never got up.
She opened the nearest door to her and found another grenade by the door.
She had purposely placed grenades on every room of the second floor earlier this morning.
She knew Coil's men would attack at night, her power had informed her that unless there was a major distraction for the PRT to deal with, like a cape fight, Coil's men would attack at night giving her plenty of time to prepare.
Of course, she couldn't really tell the future, but more like she could infer actions based on knowledge already known.
Coil was a hidden entity in Brockton bay, nobody knew him enough to know how far his reach went and nobody knew his power, Lisa figured this was by design and based on that she knew, he wouldn't attack her in broad daylight.
Even with his kidnapping attempts, he only really went full force at night, while during the day, he kept things to strictly observe and set up traps for the coming night.
Knowing that, Lisa knew to prepare well. Unfortunately, she couldn't really splurge since two months of credit card fraud wasn't exactly enough for this kind of operation, plus she had to pay the homeless people.
Her power may have gotten an upgrade, warning her of oncoming danger, and gave her a combat thinker rating, but she couldn't do whatever she liked. Careful planning was necessary.
foots–
She never let her power finish as she pulled out the pin and tossed the grenade to the corridor, and the ground shook once more.
Followed by a deafening silence, where the beat of her own heart was the only thing she could hear. Her throat felt dry and hands clamy, but she did her best to keep herself from panicking.
She didn't wait for anything to settle before she leaped out the room and charged at her foes, who were still disorganized from the explosion.
She didn't want to waste bullets, since reloading took far too much time than just grabbing a grenade and tossing, plus she wasn't a gun enthusiast who practiced how to reload as fast at possible.
The first mercenary never got the chance to do anything, as Lisa aimed for the gap between his armor and chin.
The sword pierced straight through his throat, blood splattered on her face, and she kicked him back, removing the blade from his neck.
The second one stepped back in sudden caution and shot her, aiming for the shoulder.
Lisa ducked, evading the shot, reaching her foe before he fired a second shot and took his head.
She preened at her combat thinker abilities, no matter how used to it she was, dodging bullets was cool as fuck.
The mercenaries were quick to wise up and began shooting at her.
The corridor was wide enough for three people side by side, it didn't really give her ample room to dodge.. they would assume.
As the bullets flew, she stepped back and craned her head to the side, letting one graze her cheek.
Lisa then dropped to a squat letting another fly over head, before she leaned her back against wall, evading more bullets.
She maneuvered through the bullets like an ant dodging droplets of rain. It didn't take long til she stood before one of her enemies.
She cut his arm at the elbows before kicking him to the side and leaping back herself, dodging one more bullet and entered another room,
She rolled to the floor, picked up grenade and pulled the pin.
She tossed the thing and closed the door behind her, the room shook once again. The damage to her ears will be healed by tomorrow.
She took a breath, acknowledging the fact she was killing these people, she would afforded them some sympathy, but they worked for Coil and that man seemed willing to go to any lengths to get what he wants.
Lisa didn't have qualms working for a supervillain, however her upgraded power had worked with as little information as possible and was able to warn her of Coil's behaviors and motivation.
Her power told her that he was the type to resort to torture should she be defiant, and he would kill her if she ever lost her usefulness.
Fuck all that, she could only imagine what she would have suffered if Jaz hadn't shown up.
[warning: Incoming enemy, through wall]
Her eyes widened, quickly realizing her mistake. She trapped herself in an enclosed space.
As her power predicted the wall burst open and six men stepped over the rubble, and tossed aside the thing used to blow down doors, its name currently escaped her
[Notice: It's a Battering ram]
She ignored the answer and the feeling she got that her power was rolling its eyes at her.
"Come with us peacefully or we'll be forced to be rough with you"
"Well if this isn't rough, I'd hate to see your definition of soft, but nah I rather like my time in the sun"
There was a small silence that settled between her and the enemy before they immediately pulled their guns.
She knew they had two types of guns on them the ones with rubber bullets, meant to injure rather than kill. Somewhere in these past two months Coil had switched out tranquilizers with rubber bullets.
The other type was the ones with live ammo, the rubber bullets had been the play for about a month until Coil realized he had to take off the kid gloves.
She'd commend him for waiting a whole month before he used actual ammunition but fuck him and his bond villain vibes.
Shots fired and her power got to work, she ducked, let the bullet fly over her head as she made her way for the door.
She paused and turned, letting another fly by followed by sudden crouch that had her hair suffer bullet damage.
She was at the door when one finally struck through, nailed her on the shoulder but she had turned with the force, spinning in place before opening the door and jumped over the bodies.
"Ugh!"
The groan left her mouth laced heavily with frustration while she bolted for the window, where the rope still dangled.
[Notice: Bullet wound likely not be a hindrance, will heal by tomorrow]
She grit her teeth and took the pain, she could feel blood trickle down her arm but she ignored it
Her strange benefactor had given her more than just an upgrade and a combat thinker power, he also gave an odd way of healing.
As long as she doesn't die, whatever wound she received will be healed by a good night's sleep
That would have been awesome, but now she was determined to never get captured by Coil, her power had supplied enough information to know the guy would love torturing her.
Bullets fired behind her and she only had to move her body slightly to the side evading them before leaping through window and out into the night.
She grabbed the rope and slid down, but the rope cut off just above the ground floor window. leaving her dangling.
Her power gave her information on how to land safely on to the sidewalk.
Once that was done, she turned and ran through the road, uncaring of the oncoming cars.
Halfway into the road, she stopped and turned allowing the guy who'd gave chase to miss his mark, running past her and getting hit by a car.
She felt bad about that, not for long enough to linger and not for the merc, Car insurance was a bitch after all.
She crossed the road and disappeared into the dark alleys.
She never stopped running until she was certain Brockton Bay general hospital was nearby, not to get herself healed but because Coil's men avoided that place like a plague.
Panacea was a national treasure, no gang in the City wants to be suspected of ever being near that.
The one thing she appreciated about the PRT was that the cops and robbers act went out the window the moment an asset was threatened and Panacea was the biggest asset to the PRT and Protectorate than all the heroes combined.
The girl was a miracle worker, never mind the fact she was Nilbog 2.0 waiting to happen.
With a weary sigh she leaned against the window and took a breath. Tomorrow Coil's men will be wearing something different, different armor and different weapons.
The fact she wasn't Captured meant that for him this was the safe timeline
