Work Text:

The day had been complicated, full of shouting, crying, and betrayals — betrayals coming from those they least expected. However, Multi couldn't really say he cared about what happened to the people of the North, much less when everything that happened was solely their fault.

What right did they have to meddle where they weren't invited? What right did they have to say what is right or wrong? Why do they think they can make justice with their own hands when there is no justice?

They went against God's logic.

The only one who can save them.

They knew what awaited them when they set foot on his property with their filthy paws.

Especially Ash, that one... Multi would like to deal with him directly.

In any case, the weather on the island was particularly ugly and gray, the cold wind carrying the bitterness of the islanders. There was a light rain, almost a drizzle, creating an agonizing sound outside the cave, at that point, everyone knew that the rain did not bring good omens.

And that was exactly why Multi sighed for the hundredth time in his reactor, his hands behind his back as he watched the security camera footage again. There, it showed the exact moment Aldo pulled the lever, murdering Juan in what appeared to be cold blood.

It wasn't planned; Multi hadn't expected him to have the courage to kill his former ally, but even his calculations sometimes fail. Well, what happened, happened, there was no going back.

But still, there was a strange taste in his mouth ever since Quackity heard the news.

Apparently, Quackity cared deeply for Juan, to the point that his face contorted into a frown to hold back tears in front of him. Multi let him vent his momentary frustration on him, and when he left, his "take care" seemed laden with resentment, even though he knew the scientist wasn't to blame.

Multi looked at the communicator; he had already written and deleted messages at least three times, he didn't even know if Quackity wanted to see him now.

His feelings were a jumble inside, he didn't care when Tina yelled for medication to save Juan, nor did he blink when Foolish threatened him in the final seconds.

But his chest tightened at the thought that Quackity was probably pretending not to care.

He knew that the North house was destroyed and that Tina and Foolish were probably there to at least try to save some parts of the mansion, and they would probably kill him if they saw him there.

Multi moved toward one of the chests in the laboratory, where there were several potions once made for emergency situations, his hands sliding under the vial of invisibility potion. With quick gulps, he drank the entire contents of the bottle and picked up his warpstone, leaving purple particles behind as he left.

He emerged onto the North staircase and had to be careful not to step on the missing steps, of which there were many due to the large explosion. Multi could hear some voices coming from the wreckage and quickened her pace, he really didn't want to deal with them right now.

He didn't know the mansion very well, and its state of disrepair only made it more difficult to move around, he went to Quackity's room only to find it empty. Multi frowned and closed the door, walking down the hallway until he came face to face with a sign, "Oficina de Juan".

His hand hesitated for a second before opening the door, crossing the room and opening the bedroom door. This time, he was luckier, because in bed was Quackity, with his back to him, looking at a large picture of Juan.

He was quiet, not even noticing Multi's presence even when he drank milk to remove the potion's effect. It was uncomfortable, to say the least. Multi was used to Quackity's dramatic outbursts and loud laughter, but this silence sent shivers down his spine.

— ... Quackity? — Multi called out, surprising himself with the tone that was too low and soft, sounding strange to his own ears.

Quackity immediately turned around, his eyes were somewhat red and watery, but he quickly used the back of his hand to wipe them away.

— Multi! — He approached, his voice lowered slightly. — What are you doing here? If they see you here-

— I know, I know. I shouldn't be here but it started raining again and I... — He paused, and suddenly his throat felt dry. — I was worried about you.

Multi wasn't sure when Quackity's eyes had seemed so empty, had they always been like that? He looked strange without a smile, even though it was sometimes fake.

— I'm fine, I was just... you know, thinking about how Juan was a stupid pendejo and died in the most ridiculous way possible. — He laughed to himself. — Seriously, if Aldo were the one to kill me, I would come back to life just to kill myself again, hah.

Multi said nothing as he watched his laughter fade into a sob, his hands covering his face as tears moistened his cheeks. The scientist approached and enveloped him in a tight hug.

Multi doesn't usually hug anyone, and yet his brain didn't hesitate for a second.

He remained silent even as Quackity's tears began to soak his lab coat, and even as his fists clenched and pounded against his chest while he sobbed. It wasn't a pretty cry, it was a human cry, like everything Quackity is and does.

Multi stroked his dark hair and guided him to sit on the bed, looking down at him not as he looked at his experiments or everyone else on this hellhole, but as an equal, a wounded and broken equal, but still an equal.

In reality, Quackity was far more human than Multi would ever be able to be, and for some unknown reason, he stayed by his side until the crying turned into low sniffles, and until the silence returned.

It was already getting dark, and Multi needed to get back to the reactor before anyone noticed her presence in the mansion. But with Quackity in his arms, asleep after crying so much on his chest, he brought his face close and kissed the bird's temple.

Carefully, he laid Quackity on the bed and covered him with a white blanket, making sure to pull it up to his neck to keep him warm.

— I'm sorry, kaczucha. — Multi whispered and left one last kiss on his hand before teleporting back to the cave.

Even if weeks went by without them seeing each other, even if Quackity betrayed him someday, even if any shit happened on that island.

Multi would never stop feeling the emptiness in his chest every time he returned to the reactor alone, praying that one day he could have Quackity to himself, even if only for a few minutes.
