Work Text:

INTERVIEWER: DR. WILLIAM CLARKE

CLARKE: Can you tell us what your name is?

035: My name is [SHORT PAUSE] Concrete Block.

[035 APPEARS PROUD OF THEMSELVES]

CLARKE: Sorry, I meant your casual name, we already know your object.

035: My [PAUSE] casual name?
035: Well I guess you could call me ‘Concrete-y’ for short.

CLARKE: We aren't asking for a nickname, Concrete Block, we need your casual name so that you can be identified in the records.

[035 LOOKS PERPLEXED]

035: Records?
035: Like [PAUSE] my birth certificate?

[DR. CLARKE SIGHS]

CLARKE: That’s an odd way to put it, but yes, we need your regi-

[035 INTERRUPTS DR. CLARKE]

035: Look, I don’t want to be on your show!

[DR. CLARKE IS SHOCKED BY 035’S OUTBURST]

CLARKE: My apologies, but we never said anything about a show, we just need you to answer a couple questions.

035: (UNINTELLIGIBLE)

CLARKE: Sorry, I didn’t quite catch that, could you repeat yourself?

035: Can’t you just.. [035 JESTURES IN A CIRCULAR MOTION] rewind the interview?

CLARKE: Alright, but we still have a few more questions for you

035: Shoot.

CLARKE: Can you tell us about your family?

035: The other blocks? I would say there are about 16 of them? They-

CLARKE: Sorry, 16? How many of those are siblings?

035: I just told you, 16.

CLARKE: Oh, ok. Are your parents dead, or are you from the first generation?

035: What?

CLARKE: I’ll assume that you are from the first generation then, how old are you?

035: How… old am I? I dunno man, honestly.

CLARKE: Sorry, you don't know?

035: Are you expecting me to have it stamped on me like a milk carton?

CLARKE: You… should know this kind of thing.
CLARKE: Can you give me an estimate?

035: Like, 50 or something? Concrete stays around for pretty long.

[NOTE 035 HAS EXPOSED REBAR]

CLARKE: Do you think I'm asking how old your host vessel is?
CLARK: We need your-

[035 INTERRUPTS DR. CLARKE AGAIN]

035: I already told you that I don’t want to be on your show!

CLARKE: What?
CLARKE: Oh, "host".
CLARKE: Well, we don’t want the age of your 'object', we want how long you have been, [PAUSE] living… in it?

035: Living in it?
035: What are you talking about?

CLARKE: Lets… circle back to this later

[DR. CLARKE LOOKS THROUGH NOTES]

035: I'm so lost…

CLARKE: What island are you from?

035: Why would I tell you?

[DR. CLARKE LOOKS CONFUSED]

CLARKE: You… would have told us when you came here.

035: Shouldn’t you already know then?

CLARKE: We cannot find that information if you refuse to tell us anything about yourself.

035: Good.

[THERE IS A BREIF SILENCE]

CLARKE: Well, about your rebar - can you tell us what happened?

035: …Rebar?

CLARKE: The metal sticking out of your head.

035: What are you talking about?
035: What metal?

CLARKE: You… have a huge chunk of your head missing.
CLARKE: Were you unaware of this?

035: I don’t remember-

[035 TOUCHES THEIR EXPOSED REBAR AND WINCES]

CLARKE: Is that painful?

[035 DOES NOT RESPOND]

CLARKE: Um, "Concrety"?
CLARKE: Are you… okay?

[DR. CLARKE WALKS OVER AND CHECKS UP ON 035]

CLARKE: Can you-

035: h-how…

CLARKE: I'm sorry?

035: I-I-I was d-dead..

CLARKE: Oh, have you used a recovery centre?

[035 IMMEDIATELY LOOKS AT DR. CLARKE AND APPEARS SHOCKED]

035: …Recovery?
035: That’s …what pink lemonade said…

CLARKE: Pink lemonade?
CLARKE: Are you referring to Braiden Verdence?

035: Did I die?
035: Am I dead?

CLARKE: Well, if you were recovered, that means you had to have been dead, unless there is something we don't know about.
CLARKE: And we can't know if you don't tell us.

035: Oh my cement, I was dead!!!

CLARKE: …Cement?
CLARKE: That concludes this interview, thank you for your cooperation.

035: Wait I'm not-!
