Work Text:
In another life Jax wasn't so afraid and Ribbit never stopped smiling.
Jax could have let her walls down when Ribbit showed her acceptance, crying as her friend's arms wrapped around her body, feeling seen for the first time.
Ribbit could have managed to guide Jax through this nebulous new life in so many ways, showing her the kindness the harsh world had always denied.
The Circus could have become the first place Jax would call a home, where she found love and a purpose, where she learned to smile at the reflection in the mirror.
Everyone could have smiled when they saw them holding hands for the first time and saw Jax with that cute pink bow on her head.
The Jax every new member of the circus met could have been different, happier, friendlier, still a big dork though.
In another life Jax would still fear the outside world and preferred to stay there having adventures, why leaving when they had so much fun there?
Things could have been pretty similar in some way, still pressing the red button, still refusing to consider an exit even as her friends abstracted, still terrified of losing everything.
But she could have accepted help, support and love from everyone around, everyone that offered, specially her precious little frog.
In the end things could have been better, and Ribbit and Jax could have gone for another hot chocolate with their friends.
In another life things could have been different.
