    Jiahao hums. “He has my number.”

    “He said—” Anxin pauses for dramatic effect. Rain batters the van’s roof in the resulting silence. When Jiahao inhales in anticipation, he sniffs a lungful of Maison Margiela masking boyish body odor “—that you blocked him.” There's a kittenish grin in Anxin's voice. “Always so cruel to the puppy.”
