Summary
After the siege of Suchdol, Henry and Hans return to the Devils Den, Sir Hanushs words hovering above their necks like the axe of a hangman. The letter can arrive every day now, carrying the order of their return to Rattay, bringing an end to their adventure – and their love. Hans is miserable. Henry is scared.
