“May I?”
“Why not?”
Her stencil hand tightened in hers. Empathetic smiled while leaning in, “See you soon.”
Cautious grabbed her face with her free hand and brought their lips together. She closed her eyes and felt softness beneath her cracked lips. If she pushed more, she could taste blood. If Cautious bit her, there would be blood. But that’ll be for another day.
Their eyes opened, and Empathetic saw herself in Cautious’ arms. Her stenciled hand was gone, leaving behind a gaping wound and a limp body, but that was okay. She was with someone she loved.
You’re so beautiful.
Empathetic couldn’t hide her bashfulness when she was literally in Cautious’ mind. Cautious giggled, her thoughts blending with hers. I could do anything I want, you know? And you couldn’t stop me.
Cautious poked her body’s nose.
Well, unless you give me a migraine. But my point still stands.
There’s not much you could do that would make me hate you.
They’ve both been stabbed, then stabbed again. They both realized something other than themselves was hurt. There was always the possibility to reconnect.
And even then, I’ll probably forgive you.
You really shouldn’t.
I did say probably.
You did.
Cautious sat down and placed her body next to them like she was just sleeping.
You didn’t do anything yet, so stop worrying.
It’s hard not to.
Oh right, because you know the future and I don’t.
She sighed.
Hey. I’m right here.
Her heart thumped steadily.
Hi.
Hi. We’ll be fine.
They sank to the ground and laid down, face up to the sky.
I love you.
I love you too.
