Work Text:
Janine stands in front of the mirror, silently brushing her hair. The early morning light creeps into her bedroom, illuminating the space. Not that she needs it, vampires had evolved with night vision after all. Through the mirror, she is able to see Patrick approaching from behind, still groggy from sleep. He wraps his arms around her, pressing a kiss to her temple. She allows herself to bask in his warmth for some time. Patrick certainly doesn't mind. He grumbles something that she doesn't catch, so she turns to look at him.
"What was that, puppy?" She asks. Patrick blinks slowly, taking some time to process her words. He really is like a sleepy puppy in the morning.
"Was asking if you want to take your shot now," Patrick mumbles, this time loud enough for her to hear. Janine hums in thought, before giving him a nod. Patrick echoes it, then shuffles off to another part of the house. She moves on from brushing her hair to doing her makeup, making it to her lipstick when Patrick comes back.
"You certainly took your time," Janine remarks. Patrick huffs and sets the kit down on their dresser.
"In my defense, I'm sleepy."
"You are a military officer, puppy, you should know how to retrieve important packages whilst being a little tired," Janine says, turning to Patrick to flash him a smirk. He rolls his eyes with a soft smile.
"Yeah, yeah. Want me to do the shot?"
"I'll do it, you still need to get ready," She raises her eyebrows at him, and he sighs, but goes off to get ready anyway. Janine grabs the package that he left behind and opens it, going through the motions she must've done millions of times by now. Pick up syringe, fill it, jab it in her leg, done. There's nothing truly special about it, but every time she does it it gives her a small amount of joy. She puts a bandage over the injection site, and carefully disposes of the syringe. She's gone through enough medical training to have proper sanitation procedure practically engraved into her bones. Does she have another one today? She hopes not. They've gotten dull after the 100th one. She always thinks there's going to be something new to learn and there never is.
Janine grabs some clothes from the closet, going for simple outfit today. It is mostly meetings, and perhaps a lunch break over at the CaFae, so she doesn't have to go all out. She's sitting on the bed when Patrick comes back in, all dressed and ready to go. He gives her a wide grin, and she smiles back. Looks like someone's finally woken up.
"Ready to go, babe?"
"As much as I'd love to ditch today…yes, I'm ready." She strolls up beside him, and they walk out of the house together, ready to face a dull day full of repetitive meetings. Janine takes Patrick's hand as they walk. It's not all bad. They have each other, and it certainly makes for some entertaining breaks. Maybe she will stop at the CaFae, see what shenanigans ensue when she steps in. She smiles to herself as they reach the car. What she would have done just years ago to have this life, peaceful as it can get. Maybe true peace and happiness is in her future, but right now, she's content with what she has.
