OR,

Nox makes an embarrassing noise while kissing Chase and goes red, much like a star does before its collapse.

Notes:

To Liam:

Your fic lowkey inspired this. I saw one space metaphor, went wait, and lowkey stole it IM SORRY but that awakened something in me so I dug up some National Geographic Knowledge I got when I used to read a lot of those books as a kid, as well as did some digging to make sure these metaphors make sense. I TRIED. Also, ILY for being so supportive my guy, you're one of my biggest hype-upers and I cannot appreciate you enough. I wish u all the best king if u ever need anything you're free to ask me i appreciate you SO MUCH

Work Text:

Whenever his mouth falls against Chase's, Nox is certain the galaxies brace themselves before they form swimming visions behind his eyes.

Nox is well aware of Chase straddling him in this moment, weighing him down considerably until they're backed into the cushions. A little hiccup of a laugh escapes the two of them as their teeth click for a moment. That's until they meet again, making Nox feel like a drifting galaxy, a black hole willing to swallow his boy whole.

His hair is being tugged at with a little more fervor, and Nox's hands are gripping Chase's shirt with the same urgency, using up the catalyst for this reaction quickly.

They bump and adjust each other, evident with Chase's head tilting to the side. Nox tastes him, feeling Chase's hands roam to his waist and shoulders. His legs wrap around his waist, bracketing Nox into the bed and the ever-infinite cosmos.

There are many questions Nox can't answer at the moment if he was asked. He always felt like he was on the verge of danger, anxiety consuming his soul and his five senses on high alert most of the time. Buddy knew it was unhealthy—he'd been working on it, finding healthier ways to cope.

And Nox knew he wasn't a brave person, not quite. He knew he wasn't a relaxed person, not quite, either. But with Chase he definitely felt like he was, which was why those five senses had gone out the window, somewhat.

But when he recalls this, he can feel Chase nipping at his mouth lovingly, so close to him that it makes Nox warm—both because of the summer night that had taken them hostage and the heat that Chase is transferring to him.

Like the aftermath of the birth of a star, everything starts to relax in its otherworldly chaos. Buddy relaxes into Chase's loving hands and into the hum of the air conditioning behind him, sputtering alive in the old Hollow's farmhouse as their kiss deepens.

They weren't supposed to be here—in the bed, at night, together—Buddy had strayed from the bedroom he was supposed to be in. According to Chase, it wasn't breaking any rules because he himself was allowing it.

So he technically could be in Chase's arms in a way that wasn't rebellion. But even then, why would Buddy want to try and listen anyways?

Chase nips into his mouth again, as Buddy feels his vocal chords sputter and flicker. He tries to be aware of the moment, he really does try to sense it all, to compact it and bottle it into a jar so he can wish for this once more one day.

It's especially important to savor this, because with Chase there is no traumatizing past, no scary future. When Nox recovers from this kiss, he'll probably come back to find his lips swollen, hair tousled, heart pounding, eyes dizzy and glazed over as he looks at himself in the mirror. He could only think of the future here because this was a sweeter version of it—they've never kissed this passionately. He can only dizzily imagine the wreckage he'd be left in.

And whenever Nox remembered this, it is only this infinite universe that could only dig up something so sweet. It doesn't even feel like his own brain, which loved to store painful memories—he'd like to think this is a different being letting him feel this content.

The galaxies continue their departure to explode, to heat up every inch of Nox. Nox's hands continue to roam Chase's back, finding his skin. His mouth feels numb and warm.

Control over his breathing seems to be lost when Chase indulges into his mouth. Nox makes a sound like a dying horse.

Nox doesn't realize how Chase jumps a little, but he does feel some of that weight alleviated from him. That's before he's back to finding him and teasing him with his mouth in pecks.

After another moment that Nox feels too dazed to think about, Chase pulls back.

He's staring at Nox, with amused, wide brown eyes. "What the hell was that?"

His hair is an absolute mess, everything quaking all over. Has he ever kissed Chase this hard before? Has he ever felt so lost before? "W-what?" Nox asks, revealing the tropical ocean that were his eyes in the dark.

Chase looks at him for a moment. He's been studying Nox now that he's taken the time to slow down.

He looks like the birth of a star itself, brightening even though his cheeks are already red. It's in his eyes, so bright they scare Nox sometimes.

There's that amused little giggle. "What is it?" Nox asks, still recovering from whatever spell Chase put him under with his roaming hands and warm mouth. The giggle only gets louder, and suddenly Nox has the urge to laugh at how pretty that sound is. "What?"

Chase is laughing at him, teasing him. He laughs harder, sounding much like a dying engine. "You—" he cuts himself off, snorting. "—made such a weird noise."

Nox raises an eyebrow, his stupid grin fading. "Huh? There's no way." His cheeks color like a red giant, though this is like a mortifying, consuming death instead of the crushed and defeated thing.

Though, he supposed he was already crushed under Chase's presence, unsure of how anyone ever was this bright. Chase continues laughing, little giggles that he can't hold back. "Yes you did! Admit it. That was so adorable."

Chase's nose is brushing against his in little circles as he shifts his head, closer to the angle his face was tilted as they'd been making out.

He looks up at him with those eyes, and Nox only huffs to ignore those eyes for a moment, pleading him to give in and admit that he'd made a stupid sound.

Nox thinks that he likes these silly arguments more than actual ones—banter was easy, stupid, and entertaining. Though this felt serious and embarrassing, which is why he shrinks away. He needs to find a distraction.

Nox's mouth falls on his for a moment, soft and sweet before retracting. "Hey," Chase laughs. "We were just kissing." He turns his face into his neck, now flustered.

Nox reaches for his cheek, pulling him back to look him in the eye. Now that Chase is under his spell, he isn't trying the weird eye thing. He's stronger than those all swallowing beings of their own. "I know. I just need to prove to you that you're wrong. I didn't make any noise. Like, at all."

"Okay." Chase easily answers, looking back at him. "You gotta stay in the moment to test that out, 'cause you don't really believe your own boyfriend."

For a few moments, it's just the press of their lips together, of Chase clinging to him, destroying him with kisses once more. Nox clings back, digging into his waist and pulling him close.

And he's trying to stay in the moment, he really is, but Chase is so warm. He's kissing the corners of his mouth, nipping in a way he knows is going to leave his mouth red. So naturally, Nox is so so gone, this red dwarf ready to fade out into light.

Nox breaks the kiss abruptly when he lets out a sound that, as some put it, was like a dying sea lion.

Chase looks down at him, moving to cup his face. "Ha. Gotcha."

Nox's face colors as he moves away. "Well, that's—" Chase's mouth is covered as he watches Nox try to get together an explanation. "Can you please stop making fun of me?"

"Idiot, I'm just telling you that's adorable!" He punches Nox in the arm, and his boyfriend pouts up at him.

"I'm never kissing you again. Speaking of, I should leave." Nox huffs, between teasing and being genuinely that embarrassed.

"HEY! Nooooo," Chase groans out. "Sleep here. I was joking!"

Buddy is trying not to smile. "Your cousin would murder me." He thinks back to that stupid little noise-thing he just made, and he laughs to himself. "Goodbye, my star." He makes a motion to leave, trying to pull himself away.

Chase sighs. "C'mon, please? Just stay for a bit, don't fall asleep. I won't make fun of you, honest." He settles back down on one side of the bed, scooting to make room for Buddy.

Nox pauses, turning around and folding immediately. Even in the dim lighting of this room, he's been watching Chase this whole time, which is enough to soften him like only the moon could sway the tides. "Fine."

Chase hums in response, turning to face him once more. His bed always feels warm, plush and safe, which is why Nox likes staying in this room so much.

The covers are tucked under them a little messily, just so he won't drown into the mattress and fall asleep.

They stare at each other for a very long time after that. Nox's breathing feels null, and his voice is still a little difficult to feel in his throat after kissing. And maybe—maybe it was those stupid sounds, fine. Fine! So what?

All that matters is this moment, though. Chase is staring at him, unwavering. The bed is warm and comforting as was Chase's embrace.

His eyes feel heavy and he's taken away into that dreamlike haze once again.
