Work Text:
There are Fae in Empires SMP season 2, but what if they were more like the darker stereotypical Fae in mythology?
The Fae are trickster fairies who don't know how to be nice or something like that and they don't have shadows and if you give them your name they can control you and they can't intentionally lie but they can tell misleading truths and if you make a contract with them they are unable to break it because Fae just simply can't and give you stuff to do and if you do it right they'll reward you but if you don't they'll punish you.
They are separated into the Seelie and Unseelie court and the Seelie court is good Fae and Unseelie is bad Fae with the Seelie court being separated into the Spring and Summer courts and the Unseelie court being separated into the Autumn and Winter courts. There's also the Sidhe who don't belong to any court, and the Fae live in Underhill. It's a magical place where time moves differently than over the hill.
The Rapture sent the Fae into hibernation from the lack of magic and Katherine's flower was the only thing keeping them going until the land healed enough that they flocked to the new empires for magic and give them tasks to convince them to help rebuild.
Joey and Oli know a bit about the Fae maybe from Afterlife SMP where they were both fairyborn.
Hermes was swapped out for a changeling and that's why he has telepathy, and the real Hermes was named Mercury by the Fae raising him. He's unaware that he's actually a demigod and acts like a Fae, although a bit nicer because he's still a little kid somewhere in there. Unfortunately, he's also the Fae's secret weapon because the Fae usually can't really hurt humans unless their magical contracts say they can but Mercury is a demigod.
Sausage's evil king senses the Fae magic and tries to take it but Fae magic can only be given in contracts so he makes a contract with them, intending to backstab them later and steal all of their magic.
The Fae find out about this, though, because they're much smarter than the evil king thought they were. So the Fae courts temporarily side with the emperors to kill Sausage's dad.
Eventually, once everything's all settled down, Sausage and Joel find out about Mercury and happily adopt him along with Hermes, no hard feelings. He's still their kid, after all.
