Summary

Roman struggles as the human does everything in his power to defy him, but struggles further with himself. Is it possible for a heart to physically flutter?

It was a familiar tale. Gladio knew from the beginning that he'd not live very long if he wasn't useful to the Order. He would die if he wasn't useful to his masters. He would die if he wasn't useful to his King. He always knew this. Damned if he did, damned if he didn’t, damned no matter what path he chose. It wasn't like he chose any of it. Replacing the original Gladio wasn't something he wanted. There was a lot he didn't want. He hadn't wanted to be cut open and tossed into the human world with nothing but a bleeding chest and the memory of a small child he would burn the world for.
He just made the best of what he had. Until it came to either dying young, dying younger, or taking a risk to get his familiar again. Maybe, if he was fortunate, they'd lock him up, keep his familiar, and let him visit him on occasion.
(Meanwhile Clarus is having one hell of a crisis, learning he had *three* children without realizing it, and is now going to spend a lot of time trying to convince Gladio that yes, he IS still his son, damnit.)
