Chapter Text
“Wil?”Bran said, not moving the rest of his head as he spoke.
“Yea?”
“Well…” Bran started, thinking over again the words he was about to say. “Never mind.”
“What?” Wil questioned, turning his head to look at his friend, the gentle summer breeze rustling his hair as he looked into Wil’s eyes for only a second before turning away again to stare up at the sky.
“Nothing.” Bran sighed. “I was just thinking… I’ve had a lot of fun this summer.”
“Bran, It’s only June.” Wil smiled.
“But it’s been the best June.” Bran shifted, scooting backwards to lean up against the window that lead from Wilson’s bedroom to the roof.
“Yea?” Wil smiled again. “How come?”
“I like hanging out with you.” Bran said.
“I like you too.” Wil replied, Scooting closer to his best friend.
They held eye contact for longer than they usually would, Bran seemed to be soaking up any look he could get.
“What’s up?” Wil asked, he had known Bran for long enough to be able to tell when something was different.
Bran bit his lip, looking away before beginning to speak. “I don’t know how to say it.”
Wil twisted his face, confused.
Bran thought for a second longer, not realizing he was getting teary eyed until Wilson spoke.
“What’s wrong?” He asked softly.
“I’m… leaving.” Bran said, the words coming out stretched and cold.
“What do you mean ‘leaving’?”
“I’m leaving Texas. I’m leaving next week.” Bran clarified, his stomach turning.
“Like… a trip?” Wil swallowed hard, still not quite sure what Bran was trying to say.
“I’m moving.” Bran muttered, looking up at Wil with a sorry look in his eyes.
Wil didn’t say anything, he just starred out into the sky, for a moment, then looked back at Bran, clearly upset.
“I was gonna tell you sooner, I just didn’t know how..” Bran blurted out. His stomach twisting into knots as he watched Wil’s eyes become glossy. “I hope you aren’t mad…”
“Um…” Wil started, choking on his word as he turned his head away. “no, it’s- it’s fine.”
It was silent for a moment.
“How far?” Wil asked.
Bran took in a slow breath. “California.”
“Oh.” Wil said, unsure of how he supposed to respond.
“I’m sorry” Bran apologized, he really did mean to tell Wil before, it just never seemed like the right time.
“Don’t be sorry, I’m just…” Wil sighed. “It won’t be same without you.” He whispered the last few words.
“I don’t want to go.” Bran said, blinking a few times to hide his brownish greenish tear filled eyes. “If I could I’d sit on the roof with you forever. And I’d stop the sun from falling any lower behind the horizon so I’d never have to leave.”
Wil forced a smile as Bran turned to look at him.
“Oh, I made something.” Bran said, reaching into his pockets and opening up his hand to reveal two silver necklaces, one with a clay star charm, and one with a clay sun charm.
“You made those?” Wil picked the star necklace up, holding it up so the sunlight shined off the silver and lit up one of his brown eyes.
“Yea, That one is yours.” Bran smiled.
“Thanks, I love it.” Wil said, clipping the necklace on.
Bran did the same, and scooted closer to Wil, their knees brushed against each other, but neither of them moved.
“It’s getting dark,” Bran said after a few minutes, he shifted, lifting one of his knees. “I wish I could stay… But my mom will wonder where I am.”
“Oh,” Wil didn’t mean to sound so defeated. “Alright.” He sighed. “Well, see you tomorrow.”
“Yea.” Bran went to stand up, but paused. “Wait.” He said, taking in a sharp breath.
“Hm?” Wil hummed, looking at Bran.
“I- uh..” He started, trying to find the right words, but Bran wasn’t sure if words were able to even express what he was trying to say.
Bran leaned into the other boy. Pressing his lips to Wil’s as he closed his eyes.
Wil was stunned for a moment, but Bran’s sweet taste, and soft, passionate kiss made all his worry fade away.
He melted into Bran, letting Bran pull him closer by his waist.
Neither of them had ever kissed anyone before, but this felt right, it felt new, but familiar.
Wil pulled away for a breath, pressing his forehead against Brans, his lips parted as he looked into Bran’s shimmering eyes.
Bran pulled back, still looking at Wil, unsure of what was supposed to happen next.
Wil broke the silence with a soft laugh. Bran giggling as well.
“Uh…” Bran started. “Well now I do have to go.”
“Oh, yea.” Wil said, reality now coming back to him. “Well… see ya.. I guess.”
“See ya.” Bran smiled.
Wil watched as Bran hopped onto the tree below, and down into the grass. He turned and winked as he ran through the fence gate, and disappeared behind the bushes.
