Chapter Text
It was a common shift-end for the brown-haired man. His boss had (finally) allowed him to go home and see his family in what felt like years (it was, in fact, just some hours for normal people, but, to a man who was seriously bored, it felt like it).
He could already see his sofa!—err, wife comforting him and saying “welcome back my love!” or something!
His inner otaku was also telling him to watch the newest episode of that incredible anime with the blond-haired protagonist while eating some spicy noodles and petting his cat (Stella-chan, he seriously loved that thing!).
The anticipation was too much.
He needed to be home NOW.
He took the fastest way.
Which was a (totally not suspicious!) alley.
The alley was very dark.
Was he stupid? He doesn't think so.
Neither does the black-hooded guy on the alley exit—wait, what?
It was a common weekday for the black-haired teenager and hikikomori. He had spent the entire day playing video games and doing whatever he wanted.
But he has a problem now, which is: he is hungry.
A common occurrence for a common teenager, right? (If not going to school for three months is “normal”)
Wrong!
Natsuki Subaru, our protagonist, is, in fact, not a normal teenager.
Are you, my dear reader, familiar with undead creatures? No, I am not talking about zombies!
I mean vampires.
Yes, the immortal blood-sucking night creatures.
Things very known for looking for new victims in the dark of night at very shady and suspicious places.
The description takes us to the current situation.
As said, Subaru is a hikikomori (shut-in) who has abandoned school and, by all means, is a good-for-nothing burden in his home.
And, by means to alleviate this situation, he has come to a decision!
He's going to get food for his family.
Which are also vampires.
Which means that he needs to find blood.
Which means he's going to hunt.
Today was not his day.
Or night.
After deciding to go for the fastest way home, the shady alleyway (how stupid!), he finds himself in a difficult situation.
There's someone at the alleyway's exit.
Wearing a hood.
It's not even cold!
That person looks very suspicious.
How unlucky!
Still, you cannot judge a book by its cover! Even if the said figure is staring at you with scary eyes (they look a bit red?) like a predator would.
The smartest decision in this case is to go back to the sidewalk where there's light and people.
As he takes his first step, the suspicious guy does the same.
Must be a coincidence, right?
The guy does it again.
And again.
And again.
Okay. You're doomed.
Time for Plan B: talk your way out.
“S-sorry, do you need something from me?” He hopes the man doesn't care about his stuttering.
“Oh! Yes, y-yeah! There's something from you I need very much!”
“Here goes this month's salary...”
“I-if it's money—h-here! My wallet! The e-entire month's money i-is there, so it must be e-enough for y-you to le-let me go, r-r-right?!”
“You misunderstood! I'm not a robber!”
“Oh thank God! S-sorry...” “That's good!!”
“Don’t say it too early...” Subaru whispered.
“I actually need your blood...”
“What.” He said flatly.
Vampires like the taste of blood.
Subaru is a vampire and, as such, he couldn't control himself!
His plan was to get food for the entire family, but he ended up being more hungry than he thought and drank the majority of the brown-haired dude.
It was his own kill anyway, so...
Still, he got a bottle for his parents, nothing much, but enough for a week. It is his obligation to do so as a useless son.
“Time to go home...”
And with this, the food-hunting journey was completed.
There's just one last problem: he's feeling this weird sensation.
Nothing dangerous, but still worth noticing.
His vision is also a bit blurry... but that would happen to everyone after a whole day gaming! (Even if he's not normal)
He exits the alleyway.
The night is very quiet.
There is no one else on the street.
The signal is red.
He waits.
“uhrg... still blurry...”
He closes his eyes for a moment and...
Fire.
He is burning.
At one moment it was night and in the blink of an eye it was day.
It is the most hated time for vampires and now Subaru can clearly see why.
The sun was up in the sky (probably mid-day/lunch hour), reflecting all its rays to one common destination: Subaru. The sensation was akin to putting his hand over a stove and waiting for it to burn all the layers—from his skin melting, muscles dismantling, blood boiling and finally, finally, his bones, ending his “life,”
which should put an end to his suffering if it wasn't for the utmost pain that would be the consequence of his death.
The dramatic change from the comfortable night to the horrible day made Subaru gasp and, instinctively, put his hood over his head again. And that action fortunately saved his life.
“Don't stand in the sunlight without protection.” It was one of the first things he learned in his life, along with “don't attack innocent humans” and “drink blood at least once a week.”
One of these rules, meant for his protection, was broken without his consent. (Who was the culprit? If he does find them, he will make sure they pay for the damage.)
The sudden dramatic reaction was noticed by passersby but, despite the terrified look in the boy's eyes, it was forgotten really fast.
Subaru was still recovering from the scare, with the hood almost covering his entire face when he noticed that, at some point, he had dropped into a sitting position.
Standing again (this time a little more oriented), he took notice of his surroundings.
“…eh?”
This was not Japan, nor his home city.
The first thing he noticed was the European architecture, then the semi-humans and last, but not least, the medieval clothing.
And all these characteristics combined (taking that this is not a dream) means...
“I've been summoned to a parallel world??!!”
Yeah, he screamed that.
And, yeah, he noticed the dirty looks.
But more important than that...
“I haven't left the house at rush hour in three months! This populated square is... overwhelming.”
First objective in an isekai world!
— find a secluded place.
“And! As expected, the protagonist enters the secluded alley!”
Now that he is here he can finally... think.
It's been a while since he last was in a crowded place like this. You see, his birth town isn't that big of a city like Tokyo, it's a perfect medium-sized city!
Chosen specifically by his parents to raise him.
The sound hurts to hear with how loud it is (despite him just being loud himself) and, more concerning, the scent of blood.
It is so overwhelming. It almost makes his mouth water...
BUT. It's not time to think about that!
He's an isekai protagonist! A vampire isekai protagonist! That surely has to make him even more powerful than regular protagonists. (Yeah, he's distracting himself from the real problem with that)
“Now, let's check the initial gear...”
“A tracksuit, backpack (with the blood bottles on it) and more importantly... a flip phone.”
“It's kind of disappointing I didn't get Excalibur, but I'm sure the lack of it will be compensated in other areas.”
He reaches for the flip phone and... no signal.
“I guess that's to be expected...”
“Now I just need a way to test my powers...”
As if it was destined, three figures approach the alley: ton-chin-kan.
“Well, well, well, what do we have here...?” Chin, the thin guy, says.
“Compulsory event number one.”
“Eh, what are you mumbling to yourself?” asks the small guy.
“Doesn't matter! Just hand over everything you have if you want to live!”
Aaand, that's a mugging.
“Ha! If you wanna fight, let's fight!”
“Eh? This guy is weird...”
With that both of them assume fighting stances. Subaru with his no-experience anime-inspired one and Chin with his street-learned one.
“Come, Ton-chin-kan!” He says with a smirk, which irritates the opponent deeply, since he's making a really ugly face.
“What did you call us?!!”
Our protagonist makes the first move, despite the anger-induced adrenaline that was powering the mugger: a very well-done punch to the stomach, which makes the enemy vomit. (Eww!)
“You bastard...! Urgh...” he says, trying to compose himself from the devastating punch. There's drool coming from the side of his mouth.
The impact is going to leave a very ugly bruise.
“Lachins!”
The big guy is the next to enter the battle.
He tries to punch Subaru, who dodges with ease and kicks him into the wall. The impact cracks the wall, which surprises the thieves but is not a new thing for the vampire.
Seeing the big guy's disorientation, Subaru grabs him by the hair and shoves his head into the wall, making him unconscious.
“Who's next?” asks the triumphant winner of the fight.
Shuddering in fear, the small guy and the newly recovered Chin grab the big guy's arms and pull him out of the alley.
“You're going to regret this!”
“Yes, yes, now go away.” Subaru says mockingly.
Now that he's alone, the boy has a conclusion.
“No isekai powers...” All that was a result of his vampiric strength.
“Ain't I the protagonist?! I was supposed to be powerful! To be better! I-it was supposed to be different...”
“I... I really, really thought it was my chance to... be myself...”
He's disappointed, sure, but some spare time to think and with that...
“Still... it's a bit early to tell if I have powers or not, isn't it? I should test more things before that!”
With that hope, he leaves the alley, entering the crowded street.
