Chapter Text
The sun shone down on the water. The cold liquid felt refreshing on her skin as she paddled towards a large wave. She prepared herself, standing up on her board, and caught the water at just the right angle.
The wave carried her towards shore, and she could see her friends as they sat on the sand. Twilight leaned comfortably against a log, reading the book she had recommended that morning. Dash and Applejack were still playing an intense game of volleyball, and Fluttershy was collecting seashells. Pinkie had finally managed to unpack her picnic basket, and Rarity was delicately arranging the items so she could take a photo.
Sunset felt the wave slow beneath her as she approached land. She gently maneuvered herself so she’d avoid falling off her board. Twilight looked up as the water crashed into the nearby rocks, captivated by the water, and she spotted Sunset on the beach.
“Sunset! This book you gave me is absolutely intriguing! I didn’t know children’s books could be this fascinating.” She shouted, waving Sunset over. “Did you catch any good waves? I got so sucked into the story that I stopped watching you…” She said, blushing slightly.
“I’m glad you liked it. It was my favorite growing up. That book is one of the few things I managed to get from Equestria when I visited the “other you” last year.” Sunset replied, finally reaching Twilight’s spot and sitting down beside her. She grabbed a towel to start drying off her hair, intentionally flicking the smallest bit of water onto Twilight.
“Hey!” Twilight laughed, “what did I tell you about getting me wet?!” She scrambled away from Sunset, clutching her book with all her might.
“Wait, darlings, hold that pose for me! You two look absolutely beautiful together right now!” Rarity requested, pulling out her camera. The two girls paused, occasionally sneaking looks at each other to make the other laugh, before they went back to sitting on their blanket in the sand.
“Sunset, you do know that your face got sunburned again, right?” Twilight asked while throwing the towel back to Sunset.
“Shit! I swear I put enough sunscreen on before I went out there…” She responded, panicking ever so slightly. “It’s not that bad, is it?”
“If you keep this up, you’ll get skin cancer before you’re 30! I don’t want to see you hurt…” Twilight said, inching closer towards the still-wet Sunset on her right.
Sunset blushed.
“I’ll be more careful next time. I promise.” She finished drying herself off. Her eyes turned back to Twilight again.
Twilight sat there, looking out towards the water, her hair falling down her face perfectly. Her glasses were slightly askew, probably because of Sunset’s teasing, and she felt her hands reach out to fix them. Twilight turned to her, smiling softly. She reached out to Sunset, too, and pulled her closer.
The pair stayed like that for a moment, soaking up each other’s company, before a loud noise startled them out of their trance.
“Lunch is ready, everyone!” Shouted Pinkie, who was practically radiating with excitement. “I hope you like the double-decker sandwiches I made!”
“The what now?” Applejack asked. Rarity looked at her and shrugged.
The duo made their way over for another delightful picnic during their summer break.
“Who wants to play a game of volleyball after lunch?” Rainbow yelled excitedly.
The girls all laughed, watching Rainbow squirm in anticipation, and they all agreed to play a round or two before they went home for the day.
