Work Text:

Leaving her husband was the best thing Alaunna ever did. He had barely argued, which was perhaps the biggest sign there could have been that their marriage was failing.

She had never loved him. When she was younger, she had had a sense of duty, and so she had married who she was told to. Now, though, her own children were grown, and so she had thought to herself that there was no reason to stay.

So she left him, and left their home, and walked. She walked for weeks, until before her she saw a forest that she had last visited when she was a young woman, younger than her youngest child now was. It was there that she had met Xullara. They might not be there now, but it was the best thing she had.

She walked into its depths, until a figure slipped from between two trees, blade in hand.

“What are you doing here?” they demanded.

She squinted, trying to tell - “Xullara?”

They startled. “What - Alaunna?”

“Yes!”

The pair of them stumbled towards each other, and Alaunna’s heart warmed to look upon their face once more.

“I got divorced,” she said. “Can I kiss you?”

“Yes.”

They moved towards her, and she set a hand on their face as her lips met theirs.

“I’ve missed you,” she confessed, still standing a breath away from them.

“I’ve missed you too.”
