"This is Shane," Hayden began cheerfully. "He's new to the English department. Shane, this is our assistant head of science -"
    "Ilya Rozanov."
The name left Shane's mouth before he could stop himself.
Rozanov looked directly at him. Their eyes met, and there was no recognition at all on Rozanov's face.
"Sorry," Rozanov said, his achingly familiar Russian accent instantly bringing Shane back to being seventeen again. "Have we met?"

     .

The first time Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov met was for the World Junior Hockey Championships in Regina, Saskatchewan in 2008. They were the two most talked about prospects for the NHL draft.

The next time is twelve years later, as international teachers at a school on the other side of the world.
