Work Text:
Another typical day in Acmetropolis. The futuristic city was busy, with people walking by shops, crossing the streets, and flying vehicles to fit the futuristic setting. Usually, the Loonatics would be doing missions, stopping the bad guys and gals, saving the world, and their city, of course. But this day, they were on vacation. The city gave them a month's expense-paid vacation to the World Famous Acme Hotel & Casino for their services and dedication. It was certainly an exciting time. Five-star restaurant, luxury hotel rooms, swimming pools, dances, blackjack, poker, craps, slot machines, spas, you name it. The Loonatics had the time of their lives. In terms of rooms, they had three rooms. Ace and Lexi were in a one-bedroom, Duck and Slam in a two-bedroom, and Tech and Rev in a one-bedroom. On the second-to-last day, they were all at the outdoor poolside area. Ace, Lexi, Tech, and Rev were all playing water volleyball, while Slam was dining on the same snacks as usual, and Duck was sunbathing with a tall glass of lemonade in his left hand.
Danger Duck: "Hah. What a month. Casino games, luxury hotel, outdoor swimming pool, sunbathing and relaxation, free food and drinks. Being a hero can really make dreams come true."
Ace Bunny: "HEADS UP!"
Ace from afar shouts, and Duck looks up, gasping to see a volleyball falling towards him. Luckily, Rev ran fast to catch the ball before it hit Duck.
Rev Runner: "Phew. Sorry-about-that-Duck-the-ball-bounced-off-my-arms-very-awkwardly-which-made-go-to-your-side-other-going-to-the-direction-where-I-wanted-it-to-go. Good-thing-Ace-yelled-to-let-you-know-that-the-ball-was-coming-your-way-which-prompted-me-come-over-and-save-you-from-getting-it. I-find-it-ironic-that-I-saved-you-considering-saving-people-is-what-we..."
Duck cuts Rev off by closing his beak with his right hand.
Danger Duck: "Okay. You saved me and my drink. I am grateful. Now, please leave as I need to work on my tan."
Rev Runner: "Well-okay-Duck-but-don't-get-too-cooked-under-the-sun. Don't-want-to-be-known-as-roasted-duck. Okay-see-ya."
Rev runs back to the water volleyball area.
Danger Duck: "If I wanted to be a roasted duck by anybody, it would be by me."
Slam approached Duck with a plate with chips, chocolate, pizza, shrimp, and some fruits.
Slam Tasmanian: "Duck? Want Grapes?"
Danger Duck: "Huh? Oh, why certainly, my good man. At least one of you has some manners."
To Duck's surprise, Slam shoves the grapes into his beak.
Slam Tasmanian: "Bon appétit."
Slam walks away while Duck takes the grapes out of his beak and coughs.
Danger Duck: "Ugh. At least take them off the branch before serving them to me. Sheesh."
Meanwhile, at the water volleyball area, Ace and Lexi were on one team while Tech and Rev were on the other. Ace served the ball, and they bounced it back and forth.
Lexi Bunny: "Man, now this is a vacation. It was really nice of the mayor to give us this experience."
Ace Bunny: "Especially since it would cost a whole lot extra. We shouldn't take this for granted, though. Our service to the city got us this."
Rev Runner: "True. Certainly-this-is-world's-most-famous-casino-and-hotel-in-the-world-wide-world. My-family-came-here-once-and-we-always-hit-the-arcade-area. Of-course-my-mother-would-try-and-stop-us-from-spending-all-our-coins-but-my-brother-Rip-came-up-with-a-coin-on-a-string-trick. Of-course-the-owners-found-out-about-it-and-kicked-us-out-but-we-did-save-up-on-the-coins-we-got."
Tech E. Coyote: "Interesting. But I got to say, I never thought I'd be having this much fun away from the lab. But I sure am. And I get to spend that fun with all you guys."
Ace Bunny: "I'm glad you're enjoying yourself, Tech. We have been trying to get you to get out more often."
Tech E. Coyote: "Well, I'm glad you convinced me to come here. Not only am I actually getting out, but I'm also spending time with my friends, and of course, my boyfriend."
Rev Runner: "Awe-Tech-save-that-stuff-for-later."
Lexi Bunny: "I got to say, it's great to see you guys together. And it's very brave of you, Rev, for coming out and admitting your feelings to Tech."
Ace Bunny: "Absolutely. I've said this before, but no matter what, we'll always be a team."
Rev Runner: "Thanks-for-your-support-Ace-and-Lex. You-all-are-like-a-second-family-to-me. Here-Tech-spike-it-up!"
Tech E. Coyote: "Brace yourselves, rabbits! Here comes the thunder!"
Tech jumps and spikes the ball. But Lexi, being the athletic one with her experience, dives and bumps the ball in the air. Ace follows up, hitting the ball high.
Rev Runner: "Oh-oh-oh-I-got-it!"
Tech E. Coyote "I'll get it!"
Tech and Rev chase after the ball, but with them looking at the ball, they fail to look at each other. They both jump for the ball, only to collide with each other. Their faces hit each other's cheeks, chests colliding with their arms and legs springing forward as they fall into the water.
Ace Bunny: "Oh, ha-ha-ha-ha-ha, ho, that's gonna leave a mark."
Lexi Bunny: "I hope they're okay, but I guess that's a win for us, right?"
Ace Bunny: "Uh-huh."
The bunnies hold each other's hips and fist-bump while Tech and Rev come out of the water.
Rev Runner: "Oh-deer-I'm-sorry-Tech-I-did n't-see-you-coming-are-you-okay?"
Tech E. Coyote: "Augh. Yeah, yeah, I'm fine. What about you, are you alright?"
Rev Runner: "Yeah, yeah."
Ace Bunny: "Come on, guys. Let's take five."
Lexi Bunny: "Yeah, it's about time we get some lunch anyway."
They all get out of the pool and catch up with Slam. Duck, meanwhile, is minding his own business when suddenly, a gentleman shows up beside him.
Man: "Excuse me. Are you Danger Duck?"
Danger Duck: "That depends. Who's asking, bub?"
Duck looks up at the man, who appears to be a big white furred dog with brown highlights on the top half of his face, with brown ears going down his back, down to his tail. He is wearing a fancy red business suit.
Man: "I am George P. Mandrake the IV, and I am the owner of this establishment. Have you and your friends been enjoying your stay?"
Danger Duck: "Oh, why certainly, Mr. Mandrake. We would like to thank you for your great hospitality and amazing hotel experience. And I must say, the casino really hits the spot."
George P. Mandrake the IV: "Good, good. Speaking of the casino, you wouldn't be having any trouble, would you?"
Danger Duck: "Oh, no need to worry, my good man. I got everything taken care of."
George P. Mandrake the IV: "Ah. So I suppose you wouldn't mind taking care of this since you all will be leaving tomorrow."
Duck looks at a form and looks shocked and concerned.
Danger Duck: "Oh, this, yes. Hahaha. Yes. Um... listen, I know I said I got it under control, but this one here may actually be a bit of an issue. What about the others?"
George P. Mandrake the IV: "The others are fine. It's you who needs to pay up."
Danger Duck: "Oh boy."
Meanwhile, close by.
Rev Runner: "I'm-really-happy-you're-here-with-us,-Tech. And-I-am-so-lucky-to-have-a-boyfriend-like-you."
Tech E. Coyote: "I got to admit. I was surprised when you confessed your feelings towards me. But since we've been through so much together, and saved each other's butts, I decided to go with the flow and give this little "experiment" a shot."
Lexi Bunny: "Experiment?"
Tech E. Coyote: "Yeah, but only Rev is not a subject. He's a lot more than that. He's my friend... my partner... and my lover."
Rev gets excited as he hugs Tech tightly.
Ace Bunny: "Ah... that kind of experiment. Kind of like what we got, right Lex?"
Lexi Bunny: "Yeah, except we don't wear lab coats."
The group laughs. But Slam notices the commotion between George and Duck behind them.
Slam Tasmanian: "Uh-oh. Duck in trouble."
The Loonatics turned to see what was happening.
Rev Runner: "Oh-wow. That's-the-owner-of-the-facility."
Tech E. Coyote: "What could this be about?"
Lexi Bunny: "Judging by my super hearing, it seems the owner is asking Duck to pay back a certain number of loans from the casino."
Ace Bunny: "Oh... Gambling, huh?"
Tech E. Coyote: "Huh, like ancestor, like descendant."
Slam Tasmanian: "Ugh, we help?"
Lexi Bunny: "We could, but at the same time we don't wanna get on his bad side."
Ace Bunny: "Hold on, guys, I think I can pull something off."
Rev Runner: "What-do-you-mean?"
Ace Bunny: "You'll see, come on."
The Loonatics approach Duck and George P. Mandrake the IV while they're talking.
Danger Duck: "Just give me some more time, okay? You'll get your money, I promise."
George P. Mandrake the IV: "As much as I would like to believe you, many others have said that before. And you can probably guess where they are now."
Danger Duck: "Well... I really don't want to. But look, I..."
Ace Bunny: "Excuse me, sorry for cutting ya off. Is there a problem, Mr. Mandrake?"
George P. Mandrake the IV: "There certainly is. This duck owes us money for the loans he took from us, and we expect it back by the time you all leave."
Ace Bunny: "Alright, doc. Don't get excited. How much is it?"
George P. Mandrake the IV: "Well, if you must know, as you can see through this receipt, he owes us for thirteen loans. That's seven hundred a loan."
Tech E. Coyote: "Wow, that's a tidy sum."
Rev Runner: "Yeah-how-is-Duck-supposed-pull-this-off? It's-always-a-terrible-idea-to-take-in-too-many-loans-from-a-casino. Even-one-loan-alone-can-stress-a-guy-out."
Danger Duck: "I know that, Rev... now."
George P. Mandrake the IV: "So, what would it be, Mr. Duck?"
Ace Bunny: "Hang on a minute, sir, I think I can help out some. Pardon us just a minute, doc."
George P. Mandrake the IV: "Very well."
Ace goes to his bag, which he left by a table before we went to the pool for water volleyball, to take out his wallet and count the cash he got from the casino.
Danger Duck: "Ugh, if only I were as lucky as you. Look at the cash you got."
Ace Bunny: "That's what happens when you only ask for one loan and actually try to be careful. But don't worry, Duck. I got this."
Danger Duck: "I can't believe I'm saying this, but make it snappy or I'm cooked."
Ace Bunny: "Keep your feathers on, go join the others. Oh uh, Mr. Mandrake?"
George P. Mandrake the IV: "Yes, Mr. Bunny."
Ace Bunny: "Sorry about the delay there, but here. Here's the twenty-eight hundred."
The Loonatics look on in shock.
George P. Mandrake the IV: "Twenty-eight hundred. Fine. Eh... just a minute, he owes me for thirteen loans, that's seven hundred for every one of his loans, and that happens
to be a lot more than twenty-eight hundred."
Ace Bunny: "No, I'm positive it's twenty-eight hundred."
Tech E. Coyote: "Um, are you sure, Ace? Because that doesn't make sense. Being a scientist, I know my math very well and..."
Danger Duck: "I think we should let him finish."
Rev Runner: "Please-tell-me-you-went-to-school-Ace."
Ace Bunny: "Certainly. High school, acting school, karate school..."
George P. Mandrake the IV: "Alright, alright. Mr. Bunny. You think you can prove that if we eliminate the zeros... You think you can prove that seven times thirteen is twenty-eight?"
Ace Bunny: "It's gotta be because the thirteen leans and the seven hundred, twenty-eight hundred, that's what you get."
George P. Mandrake the IV: "Then let's see. If you can prove it, I'll tell you what will happen. I will let Danger Duck go without paying it back."
Danger Duck: *Gasp* "Oh, what a relief."
George P. Mandrake the IV: "But... if you don't prove it, Duck owes me double the amount."
Duck gulps in fear.
Ace Bunny: "Alright, it's a deal. Let's get this holographic board up. Seven and thirteen is gonna come out as twenty-eight."
George P. Mandrake the IV: "That's your way."
Ace uses his fingers to draw on the holographic board.
Ace Bunny: "That's my way. Now first, we put down the seven. And then we're gonna divide the seven into twenty-eight. Here we go. Seven into two?"
George, Tech, and Rev shake their heads.
Ace Bunny: "Seven will not go into two."
George P. Mandrake the IV: "It will not."
Ace Bunny: "That's a mighty big seven to push into that little two. We're not gonna harm the little two here, so we take the two... open your hand... and I'll take the two right there for safe keeping. But don't drop it and don't lose it. Now, seven from eight?"
George P. Mandrake the IV: "Is one."
Ace Bunny: "One, and I'll put the one up here... right over there. Now we're gonna carry the seven because it's pretty big and is getting heavy on my shoulders, and we're gonna drop the seven under there. Seven from eight?"
George P. Mandrake the IV: "One."
Ace Bunny: "One, and I'll put the one down here. Now comes... would you mind opening that paw? I would like to use that little two. Open it up, you had it long enough, hahaha. I'll put the two right here. Now seven from twenty-one?"
George P. Mandrake the IV: "Three times."
Ace Bunny: "That's right. Seven into twenty-eight. *Tap* Thirteen."
The math puzzled George greatly. Even Tech and Rev were puzzled by Ace's math problem.
Tech E. Coyote: "Wait a minute, that's not how you divide it."
Ace Bunny: "Works for me."
Lexi starts giggling at Tech.
Tech E. Coyote: "What's so funny?"
Lexi Bunny: "I'm sorry, just seeing your reaction to Ace's breakdown on the division is hilarious."
Even Slam starts to giggle a bit.
George P. Mandrake the IV: "Alright, wait a minute. You're gonna have to prove it to me better than that. You can prove it very easily by multiplication."
Ace Bunny: "Oh, you want me to multify it?"
George P. Mandrake the IV: "No, no, not multify... multiply."
Ace Bunny: "Oh, okay. That's my specialty."
George P. Mandrake the IV: "Seven times thirteen is twenty-eight, draw it, and prove it."
Ace Bunny: "Okay, now we're gonna put thirteen up on the board first. There's the thirteen."
George P. Mandrake the IV: "Times seven."
Ace Bunny: "Times seven. Alright, seven times thirteen, here we go. Seven times three?"
George P. Mandrake the IV: "Twenty-one."
Ace puts the number two at the bottom instead of the top.
Ace Bunny: "Twenty-one. Seven times one?"
George P. Mandrake the IV: "Seven."
Ace Bunny: "Seven. Seven and one?"
George P. Mandrake the IV: "Eight."
Ace Bunny: "Eight... and two to carry... twenty-eight."
George scratches his head; he's even more puzzled. Even Tech and Rev were in the scratching head zone as they watched.
Rev Runner: "Okay-even-I-know-that-the-math-is-all-wrong."
Tech E. Coyote: "The number two was supposed to go on top of the one. This is ridiculous."
Rev Runner: "I-know-right? It's-crazy-does-he-not-know-the-answer-or-is-he-really-trying-trick-the-ow..."
Duck suddenly grabs Tech's muzzle and Rev's beak to get them to stop talking.
Danger Duck: "Would you two lovebirds and canines stop yapping off about and let the rabbit continue with his process?! I need to get out of this situation; otherwise, I'll have to work for that guy. He'll probably make me clean the pool. I am not doing that job again, understand?!"
George P. Mandrake the IV: "Now, wait a minute, wait a minute, Mr. Bunny. I'm still not convinced. There's only one sure way of doing this. One SURE way. And that's by addition."
Ace Bunny: "You want me to add them up?"
George P. Mandrake the IV: "Yes. I want you to draw thirteen seven times on this holographic board, and then draw a line, and add them up."
Ace Bunny: "So you want me to put down thirteen seven times?"
George P. Mandrake the IV: "That's right."
Ace Bunny: "Hmm. It's got to come out right. Okay, there's one... two... three... four... five... six... seven."
George and the Loonatics notice that Ace was slightly spreading the number thirteen apart.
George P. Mandrake the IV: "Wait a minute, wait a minute. Pardon me, but what's the idea of spreading them out like that?"
Ace Bunny: "Well, it looks like a flock of seagulls about to hit the electric polls. Hahaha. Okay, now we're gonna add them up, okay?"
George P. Mandrake the IV: "Okay, go ahead."
Ace Bunny: "Three, six nine..."
George P. Mandrake the IV: "Oh, excuse me. On second thought, let me do the adding this time."
Ace Bunny: "It's got to come out right. Three, six, nine..."
George P. Mandrake the IV: "Please, Mr. Bunny, I insist. I will do the adding this time to make sure there will be no mistakes. Alright? So twenty-eight hundred here, though I am still convinced that it should be more."
Ace Bunny: "Alright, if you must, you must."
George P. Mandrake the IV: "Three, six, nine, twelve, fifteen, eighteen, twenty-one..."
Ace pulls George aside to finish counting with the ones.
Ace Bunny: "Twenty two, twenty three, twenty four, twenty five, twenty six, twenty seven, twenty eight."
Ace writes twenty-eight at the bottom as he did the others. George's eyes widen, and his face twitches, and he even begins mumbling. Ace takes the twenty-eight hundred back as he brushes off his fingers and walks to the group, with George starting to pound his head with his fists. He notices that even Tech and Rev's faces were frozen. Their eyes were wide, their muzzle and beak gaped open, their eyebrows made them look as if they were angry, though they were not, and even twitches could be noticed under their right eyes. They looked as if a computer had just crashed, with the annoying buzzing sound. Lexi and Slam couldn't help but laugh at their reactions, while Ace, with a smile on his face, goes over, puts his hands underneath, and closes their muzzle and beak, then pats them on their shoulders. He then goes to Duck, who is also surprised.
Danger Duck: "How in the world did you do it?"
Ace Bunny: "Duck, you and I have ancestors who've done a lot of things to get out of a jam. Nothing wrong with keeping up the legacy."
Danger Duck: Well... yeah, I guess that's true... considering I've always been jealous of ya."
Lexi Bunny: " Yeah, well, regardless of your jealousy, he just got you out from squidging the pool again."
Slam Tasmanian: "Hahahahahaha. Squidging."
Tech E. Coyote: "Hold on a minute. We're just gonna pretend that Ace's math is right?"
Rev Runner: "I'm-sorry-Ace-but-you-completely-lost-us. That's-not-even-the-correct-coordination's-to-get-the-correct-answer."
Ace Bunny (With a smile on his face): "What's your point?"
Tech E. Coyote: "The point is, thirteen times seven is not twenty-eight. Duck here would actually have to pay a lot more than twenty-eight hundred."
Ace Bunny: "You mean he would have to pay ninety-one hundred?"
Rev Runner: "Of-course-it-is. Ninety-one-is-seven-times-thirteen-and-we-knew-this-already-because... wait."
Ace's response of ninety-one hundred cuts off rev, and Tech gives Ace a wide-open stare, realizing that Ace knew the answer all along.
Tech E. Coyote: "You just tricked the owner of this establishment, didn't you?"
Ace gives Tech a cocky smirk with his arms crossed.
Ace Bunny: "Yep."
Rev Runner: "Oh-that's-a-relief. I-thought-you-really-didn't-know-the-answer. *Gasp* Oh-no, but-that-also-means-you-gypped-the-owner. Now-we're-gonna-get-it-for-sure."
Ace Bunny: "Hey, don't worry, Rev, as I said, I got it under control. Besides, I'm gonna go to the casino later tonight and build up some more to pay off the debt."
Danger Duck: "Huh? You mean you didn't..."
Lexi Bunny: "Well, if you think about it, Mr. Mandrake is gonna notice eventually, so I think this was Ace's plan to buy us some time."
Slam Tasmanian: "Hmm... smart."
Tech E. Coyote: "Oh, now I get it. My brain couldn't take much more. I felt like it was getting fried. Anyway, you want some help with that?"
Ace Bunny: "Sure, you guys can help if you want, but I'm sure my lucky foot will help me in the long run."
Danger Duck: "Ugh, if only I had your luck."
The Loonatics head off to get some lunch before heading down to the casino later to help pay off Duck's debt.
THE END
