Work Text:

Suzie was gone. Jack had shot her body to death, and they’d destroyed the glove. Suzie was gone.
So, why could Gwen hear her?

It started off innocuous enough, just a little voice that asked her if what she was doing was right, or if she should try something different. She’d presumed it was just her anxieties manifesting themselves in little thoughts, seeping into her everyday.

Then she started hearing her voice. It was shortly after the nightmare with Abaddon, after Jack vanished. It wasn’t much, just repetitions of phrases she’d heard, “I don’t want to do this” “A part of her will always be in me”.
Still, it creeped her out. Hearing the voice of your twice attempted murderer was never comforting.

When Jack came back, the initial upheaval, Gwen forgot about Suzie. Just for a moment.
So, of course, that was when it got worse. Suzie started speaking to her, telling her what to do and how to act.
The worst part was, it was actually decent advice.

After Owen and Tosh died, Gwen thought, somewhat hysterically, that she might start hearing them. That was the first time that Suzie responded to her, in earnest, “Just me in here, Gwen.”
She screamed.
Eventually, Rhys got freaked out enough he called Jack and Ianto.

And that was when they used the mind probe. Gwen didn’t care if it blew her head up, she wanted her out.

She couldn’t quite stomach watching the CCTV. To watch as Suzie spoke to Jack and Ianto through her body, using Gwen’s lips to spill her own deepest thoughts. She made it through until Suzie spoke about Gwen, shared her infatuation. She couldn’t watch that. She felt nausea swell, and shut it all off.

Suzie was in her head. Suzie had never died. Suzie was in her head, alive, and in love with her.

Gwen did puke, then. Ianto found her in the bathroom, offered her a cup of tea, and held her hair back. She could see why Lisa loved him so much.
He told her Jack had a plan, a device that they could trap her in. She didn’t care what it was. She wanted her out.

It hurt like hell. They had to use the mind probe, again, and that was all Gwen registered.

And when she woke up? Blissful silence. She wouldn’t miss Suzie Costello.
